A few pictures for you guys...

Replacement iPad 2 (Samsung panel, brown box):

As you can see, the replacement is far dimmer, and has a twinge of yellow. I'm not completely satisfied, so I'll be calling AppleCare tomorrow to work on getting this sorted out.

Can you tell us how you can tell which is a LG display and which is a Samsung display?

Besides the obvious fact that LG displays have light bleed.

Bad experience with "Genius".

Made Genius appointment yesterday, and drove 1.5 hours to Orlando. "Genius" seemed dismissive from the start, as I explained the problem. He says hang on, and went in the back. Comes back and says it's not really THAT bad, and said that if I wanted, he would exchange it for another unit, but specified that this would be a one time offer only, and that if it was the same or worse, I would have to live with it. I know that is not true, but didn't want to get in a pissing match with the guy.

I told him that if he knew for a fact that the new shipments were improved, I would go ahead and swap. He said that since launch he has only swapped out 3 iPad2's, and only one was for light bleed. Lie lie liar!!

His dismissive attitude was very off putting. I have owned every iPhone since 3G, Apple TV, iMac, etc. Real fanboy! I still like my Apple products, but this was disappointing experience.

Plan to call Apple Care later, and see what they think.

Mine was bleeding as well. Took it to my local Fruit Store yesterday and walked out with a replacement unit 15 minutes later! No questions asked. New display has zero bleed. Very satisfied!

I think that the yellow tinge is actually better calibrated to color then the bright screen
Yes the white is a little more yellow but the color of the screen is better

The genius you dealt with is a tool. Call Apple. Also let them know what the "genius" said to you. Same thing happened to me. Apple on the phone apologized. Not your fault Apple sold young defective product.

As much as you replacement looks "yellow" the other looks overy blue to me.

If this becomes yellow vs blue being "accurate" this thread may just hit 1,000 pages.

I am in the camp that is OK.. kinda likes.. the slight warm versus slight cold screen.

IMO in those images the comparison that shows iTunes.. the one on the right seems to have better colors and contrast. Just my $0.02. Mine being between a really warm iMac and a cold PC and cold iPhone.. I am personally cool with my iPad 2 screen.

Jeez resize those photos, I could see some peoples' computers crashing from that (really old, slow ones) haha.

I have light bleed from the left but it only really looks yellow if I photograph it. Nowhere near as bad as most of the other photos I've seen on here. I've watched plenty of material and it doesn't bother me much unless its a pitch black scene.

I have OCD over electronics too (not just light bleed but lots of weird things). It's cool knowing the replacements have no light bleed, almost tempting to get mine swapped (if its still a 'NEW' product and not 'REFURB' and I don't care what you say, I didn't pay $500 for a 'REFURB' a week after ownership, otherwise give me the refurbished price difference).

Plus my family's Sony 40" Bravia and 52" XBR9 both have backlight bleed. Very noticeable to my eyes. I'm not saying its acceptable for a device of that price or that I would be ecstatic about it, but the XBR2 clouding issue was unreal and disgusting on a whole new level (looked like pressure from different points of the screen). Backlight bleed is just becoming more usual than not in most devices, even those meant strictly for staring at!

But I still really like my LG panel otherwise. I wish I had a friend's replacement to compare with before jumping the gun and maybe regretting it for color temperature difference.

And i'm familiar with yellow and blue hues from iPhones in the past (had every gen). Just not sure I'm ready to make the leap.

Others?

Like VidPro, I am a plasma guy. I really like the samsung panel better. The colors look better.

If I knew I could get a samsung panel I would go tomorrow.

Someone with a replacement grab a family/friend's Lg and shoot a comparison video with a nice camera running a similar video or doing similar activity. That will give it better justice (and I'm curious). Plus you'll get lots of YouTube hits.

I had almost precisely the same experience. So I returned mine and got my money back.

I was told on the phone that the 'geniuses' have their own stock of replacement iPads. It's probably a tiny inventory however (ie 3 or 4 of 'em).

I placed my order last first week of May and will be getting it next week. Should i cancel my order and place another order so i'll get it on june instead? I am thinking it'll decrease the chances of getting ipad with backlight issue. What do you guys think?

Cancel your order. It will have back light leakage. 99.99% sure. I bought my Ipad 2 last week and had huge light leakage. I am going back to get a replacement.

Got my iPad 2 today. Just checked for backlight bleeding & couldn't see anything.

I'd be totally fine with a brown box unit if it fixes the issue, but I am so desperately afraid of one of those dingy/warm screens. My iPad 1 was like that and I was always so envious of the crisp, bright floor models.

Can anyone confirm that these brown box units are all using this warmer type screen? I see in the pictures above that that is the case.

I'd much rather live with some weird ass bleed that I only see in dark rooms rather than a dingy screen that I see all the time. Also, no dead pixels on this unit.....almost as good as winning the lottery?

Is it minor light bleed at normal usage, or when 'testing'. If it's normal usage, i would take it back.

it's only noticeable at 100% brightness and even then its not bad at all...right above the home button so it will be no issue for me when watching movies...and besides i never use it at 100% brightness anyways :D

Got my iPad and had two dead pixels and no light bleed. I got my replacement, no light bleed but the yellow look which annoys me. I was okay with living with it but got a stuck pixel (blue) after a week of use. I might have to get another one.

How many iPads have people gone through? These screen issue are frustrating.

Also, since LG screens seem to have the issues are they out of the supply chain or should I wait a little longer?
