I'm coming from a 11 Pro Max, trying out 12 Pro, battery life is bad so far. Not really a fair comparison as the Max versions have much better battery life, but just reinforces that I need the Max version in a few weeks.

My 12 Pro is still downloading my 54k photo library... I came from an 11 Pro Max so yeah, I notice the battery difference but it was expected. I'm not disappointed. I'm actually happy I have a phone that is a great size.

Apple has some of the industry's best return policies. If you're not happy - enjoy. :)

When your expectation level is where it should be through knowledge of the upcoming or established release, it isn’t too often one is going to be overly disappointed with the normal usage of an Apple product, in my opinion.

Glad to see you and the missus are enjoying your phones.

A Max phone has longer battery life than a standard iPhone pro 12?!?

You can’t be surprised by that surely. It’s like being surprised that a 60L of fuel will get you further than a 40L?!?

But Android phones with 120hz display with 5G also get more battery life than the iPhone 12 Pro.

This years upgrade doesn’t look good at all.

Apple set the bar high with 11 Pro/Pro Max, in terms of great battery life right off the bat. Now with smaller battery's, I’m not giving them a week.

The thing is (I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max), it doesn’t have 5G and 120hz display. So ofcourse it will beat Android phones in terms of battery life because it is old tech.

However if Apple puts 120hz and 5G like other flagship phones, things might look different.

Imo, Apple should put a 4500mah battery inside their phones just like every other flapship phone. It is too small. But Apple won‘t do it because of “environment”.

It has already been shown that the battery life is inferior.

No it hasn’t. In your opinion it has but my opinion is it’s better. It’s best not to state your opinions as facts.

The facts of the matter are, the battery in the 12 pro is smaller than the XS max. Issues that will effect performance are...

1. Apps used, varies from person to person. One run away app that hasn’t been configured correctly for the new phone could change the experience completely.
2. Changes to hardware. Increased power draw that takes up the slack from the more efficient processor.
3. Batteries normally take a couple of full charges to settle. I see this in phones and other hardware.
4. Indexing. The first 24hrs or so the new system will be running a lot of the time sorting out OS and app files.

So... given the above, there is no way after 24 hrs a definitive answer can be given. And, even after that time, it will depend on what apps you’re using and whether the developer hasn’t screwed up and there is a bug leading to the app running a mock draining power. So many variables there to be able to claim anything.

Third full day with the 12 Pro here in Australia.

Only 4G and no 5G other than one speedtest.
Off charger at 6.30am and now 7.15pm.

Will test it out for another week before deciding if I would keep it or get the Pro Max.
Love everything else about the smaller size.

6hrs? You have no life lol, maybe get a iPad and mix it up bigger screen too. Ridiculous spending that much time staring at a 6” screen, specsavers will love you in years to come :)

Was your all of your usage over 4G?

Probably half on 4G and half on wifi

Hmmm, what was your screen brightness at?

Im getting 6 hours on my xs max at the moment, 6h30m sometimes.

Hopefully not a step backwards with the 12, guess we’ll find out soon, should be arriving tomorrow.

Probably 50-60%

6 hours until it drains to 0% or 20%?

Have my brightness set to 30-40% most of the time while indoors, 6 hours around the 20% mark maybe a little under 20%.

Realized the last few iOS 14 updates have been terrible for battery life, getting 30m 45m less battery life than before.

While true android has had 5G longer so more time to refine 5G. Android has got battery life to be fine but mainly at lower resolution. Plus battery sizes are bigger so help with this.

Only apple know why they decided to reduce battery sizes. Think they know it needs to be bigger next year with 120hz even with ltpo

How else will they get everyone to upgrade next year. 🤦‍♂️

Stupid movie by apple going back to their old tactics, thin phones with smaller batteries.

Wonder how much money Tim Cook is Pocketing by making these phones even thinner and adding smaller batteries.

With my iPhone 12 I noticed that it gets very hot when using safari. Perhaps this is contributing to battery drain? Is that the case for anyone else?

That is called great marketing by apple, the new A14 5nm chip, more efficient, great battery life my ass 🤦‍♂️😂

Should of kept my xs max for another year.🤦‍♂️🥺

Battery life isn’t going to be the same for everyone. It depends on how the OP is using his phone, cellular signal strength, WiFi strength, screen brightness, apps installed, as well as apps being used and left in the background. And lets not forget user preference settings.

OP, you didn’t mention anything about these salient points. How are we supposed to offer help?
This.

It will depend on the user and how they use it. I am using my iPhone 12 Pro the exact same way I used my iPhone 11 Pro Max. I have not noticed any significant battery difference yet. If that changes, I will update here, but so far, I am impressed and like the smaller size, too.

Isn’t it great we have a choice, if battery life is your defining factor get an Android. Nothing will motivate change like sales or lack there of.

Quite impressed so far with the battery on my 12. Phone was on for 11 hours yesterday after taking it off charge, with around 4 hours of screen on time and battery ended the day on 72%!

XS Max 3,174mAh vs 12 Pro 2,815 mAh

Yes the cpu is more efficient but you have no way of knowing whether any of the other new parts, features etc draw more power and as a result, make use of the efficiency!

The last thing I’d ever expect is a larger phone and battery to be beaten by a smaller one. Certainly wouldn’t proclaim to be surprised by it anyway!

absolutely. I moved from the 11 Pro Max to the 12 Pro because I wanted a smaller phone. Battery is technically worse for me with the 12 Pro, which I expect given the smaller battery and new features, etc.

That said, whether I end my day at 20% v. 35-45% matters not. It still enough to get through the day.

now the fact the phone onthe early test fairs worse that the comparable 11 models - that’s a bit concerning but like others have said - give the phone a few days to index given iOS a bit of time to optimize and I am sure any divide will grow way closer.

Its simple, if you come from the 11 pro , it will be not satisfied like you were with your 11 pro
If you come from older x or xs and so on you will get better battery

This phone JUST CAME OUT. Give it time for software updates and optimization as well. Plus, with phones being set up, it is still indexing after a few days...
Does it really takes days to 'index'? I'm sceptical. A14 is very fast let's not forget.

This indexing thing sounds to me like something that may have been relevant back in ye olden days of iPhones but I'm finding it very hard to believe that modern Apple SOCs take entire days to index files on the phone.

Please someone prove me wrong if there is a source that proves indexing for days is still a thing that happens with modern iPhones.
