Does it really takes days to 'index'? I'm sceptical. A14 is very fast let's not forget.

This indexing thing sounds to me like something that may have been relevant back in ye olden days of iPhones but I'm finding it very hard to believe that modern Apple SOCs take entire days to index files on the phone.

Please someone prove me wrong if there is a source that proves indexing for days is still a thing that happens with modern iPhones.
I tend to agree.

Theres certainly no evidence of any battery draining background activity going on on my new phone, and even Under settings>battery the screen off time for the last 24 hours is just 4 mins.

Have anyone did a force reset (without losing Data). And see if the battery improve? My applewatch 5 used to need force reset to hv a good battery life.
‘still waiting my 12pro to arrive’

This is hilarious to me. The idea that anyone has a clue has good the battery life is on the 12/12 pro at this point is nuts. Even the reviewers haven’t had enough time to say. It could be worse, but by the margins some of you are saying is absolutely ridiculous. This isn’t new at all. Everyone says give it a week or so before making judgements.

Also least forget all the issues iOS 14 has had with battery life. My iPhone 11 Pro hasn’t had the same battery life since iOS 14 was downloaded. I even had to do the restore from backup option to fix massive battery drain. At this point, I have no idea which phone is better on battery life. My 12 pro seems pretty on par with the 11 pro. I am going to give the phone a chance before making judgements, and also wait and see if iOS 14.2 makes some improvements.

with phones being set up, it is still indexing after a few days...
I see this every year, people saying on their new macs, iPads or phones. Give a few days or even weeks, its indexing. What is it indexing on a new phone and why would it take days to do, when Apple's Ax processor is the fastest out there.

I don't know if the battery in the 12 is worse then prior models, I have no comparison, but I think the comments along the lines that its indexing is not correct

Yeah, and even if it's indexing, it's not going to take that long. The A14 and storage speed that slow? It would have indexed everything when the iPhone is downloading from iCloud backup.

You’re right. Depending on how many photos someone has locally on their device as well as messages, the indexing shouldn’t be more than a day or two.

Just used my 12 pro for surfing and text work while waiting in line to vote. Full brightness, 5G, 1 hr of use drained 15%. Really solid for full brightness outdoors, and 22% use is still photos caching 50k pics in the background

Same feeling! I could imagine that it indexes when it’s plugged in since this so called indexing would use way more energy to complete the task.

But people pretending that it would take literally days to finish this task are insane lol

I’m moving from 11 pro max to 12 pro. And I do notice the battery life is significantly worse than the max during the 12-ish hours I got Not sure if it’s because the phone is doing some initial restore/setup.
The Max phones always have the best battery, due to being large i.e. fit a large battery.
You switched from a Max phone to a non-Max phone. Your results are expected.

Really? People were saying how amazing the iPhone 11s battery life was after one day.

No defending apple on this one, pure greed by Tim Cook, plain and simple.
Greed? Lol are you an android troll or something? They made the phones thinner and lighter, because people asked for it. When you make a phone thinner and lighter you get a smaller battery.

Yeah, I’ve been wondering about this to. Would be great for someone to give us a detailed explanation.

*Battery Update* from my first post. First charge was better than I thought, almost 8 hours of screen time. So far so good, loving the size of the 12 Pro.

Off the charger at 11/23 11:56PM, died at 1:20AM 11/25

Thanks to the efficiency of the A14 chip

Please stop saying that, people are getting 4 hours usage, all this A14 crap is just marketing bs. If apple really wanted too they could’ve added a bigger battery by making the phone slightly thicker. It’s all part of their master plan to make everyone upgrade next year, or to up sell people to a pro max.

I had the 11 Pro and don’t remember it ever getting this hot.

Depends on unit/luck. Usually settles, sometimes doesn’t. Is rare for it to not settle.

Yes. A14 is probably less efficient than A13, hence the worse battery life.

That is 100% correct.

Next year the main reasons for upgrade will be battery life and maybe 120 Hz on the Pros.

Who asked for it? Do you speak for all Apple users? I certainly didn’t. I’v never seen anyone ask for a thinner and lighter phone. In fact, I’v seen people ask for a thicker phone to get rid of the camera bump and bigger battery. For years people have been moaning about it.

Don’t be ridiculous now.

I’m at 94% while on WiFi with 5G on auto, have watched 20 minutes of 4K YouTube video via the app to my AirPods, 45 minutes WiFi browsing for 65 min screen on time. Not complaining so far, and miles better than yesterday. Let the devices settle, the indexing also includes on device machine learning and photo caching, generating search matches from your old iCloud texts, etc. wait a week and then complain all you guys want if the battery remains significantly off.

In my experience with the 11 Pro, it does take a few days.

I highly doubt that but I think it’s just the weaker battery itself. A14 is 5nm which means less power hungry

The battery isn’t much smaller. Not enough to warrant the reduced runtime. Even if it did, it would mean very similar efficiency for both.

Mines been off the charger since 8:24am and been used all day today, pretty much non stop either on here, other set forums, streaming YouTube, streaming music or taking photos... still got 40% left.
Mine was set up Friday mid day, every day as expected it’s been getting better and better with battery.

And your argument is that you speak for everyone?

Most people use a case. So there is no camera bump. That's your dumbest argument so far.
