Well let's be honest, I don't think Apple is going to release a buggy POS security feature that they are calling the future with Face ID. It might need improvements as time proceeds forward, but this company values and releases technology they have complete faith in. That's What makes Apple so great in so many different respects, they have reliable software.

Buggy maybe. But, there are a lot of unknowns and questions we will likely have to await launch.

It’s the same thing. Pick up your phone and swipe to get to home screen. Or pick up your phone and push the home button to go to the home screen. Same thing. One step.

No, you are wrong.

FaceID

1. Pick up the phone
2. Look at it.
3. Then swipe up.

TouchID

1. Pick up the phone.
2. Press the home button.

Not sure I consider looking at your phone a step. If so, aren’t you missing the same step? Or do you unlock your phone without looking it many times per day?

Here ya go..

1. Pick up the phone.
2. Look at it.
3. Press the home button.

Looks like you’re all good on this time consuming process.

Personally I think you are trying far too hard to minimize any perceived additional steps. How about we wait till it is in hand and can try it? ;)

FaceID requires you to look at the phone. Apple has said as much. That process is a separate step.

I do sometimes unlock my phone before it is in position to read the screen. This is simply because the phone is face-up even when off.

This is getting beyond frustrating.

Looking at your phone is NOT an additional step. You are going to have to look at it anyway to use it!!!!!!!!

What I am saying is that it is possible and probable that one can pick up the ipX and your face is not yet in position for the faceid to verify yet. Hence why it is a separate step.

It's not frustrating to understand.

you mean by trying it, going to your nearest Apple Store after the pre orders (27th of oct) are over, cause thats usually the time the demo models are in Store.
So the pre orders are allready over, about let's say 10.000.000 people around the world placed their pre order...there you are...finally you can touch and feel the iPhone X yourself.
You are very enthousiastic, going home and ordering one from Apple's website. Again, this is AFTER pre orders (27th of Oct) are over.

I think everyone can guess what your estimated shipping times will be... well at least you got about 10.000.000 people (pre order) waiting in front of you who didn't bother to really feel and see the X before the actual ordering ;)

You don't have to wait until the phone is unlocked to swipe up. You can instantly swipe up as soon as the screen turns on, Face ID will continue doing its thing to unlock the device. Theoretically, by the time you are done swiping up, the phone should already be unlocked so that it's all one motion.

So after you use Face ID to unlock, then you have to swipe up to open the home screen,....really ? With touch ID, you touch it and it opens up to the home screen without swiping. Am I missing something or is this a double step that touch ID does not have ?

you still have to touch it either way, just a new gesture, instead of a button press its now a swipe
[doublepost=1505963266][/doublepost]great hands on... Ugh I really want this on Nov 3rd but I'm losing hope seeing all of these reports of delays in production, and all of the folks who are going to buy to re-sell.

Not exactly, buddy.

I can have my phone unlocked by the time it reaches my face so now I can get on with what I was about to do with an app or OS. With face ID, you will need to FIRST unlock it, hope it doesn't fail, THEN move on with the apps or OS. That'll get old fast and it is a step back if you're used to touch ID (which was excellent).

this!

Myself and many others have allready explained this in exact the same way.
For some reason, the true iPhone X ''fan'' still really thinks that FaceID is as fast (or even faster) and easy as TouchID while its simply not.

Just accept that unlocking the iPhone X is a (bit) more complex /step back then an iPhone with TouchID and move on... ;)

And? I am not concerned with the when, rather the if. That’s if I want one. I have a choice of the 8, the X, or something else. I have a 7+. Before I would spend that kind of cash, the 64GB is too small, add in the extras like fast charge, etc... I want to be damn sure it is what I want.

Right now I have far too many questions. This will not be an impulse buy.

Are iPhone 8 demo models on display at the Apple Store now? I thought these things came out after the official release date?

and I fully agree and understand you.
This $1150/€1359 phone is not just an impulsive buy. I only menitioned it, to understand that ordering any day after the 27th of october will give you massive shipping times, mostlikely half way 2018.

I still think this is a crazy complaint. There is only one step. Swiping up. You are going to look at your screen anyway. So it’s a swipe instead of a press.

No need to press the power button. If you hold the phone up it "wakes". Once it reads your eyes/face to unlock you swipe up. Two steps. Touch ID is one step.

I don’t even think you need to wait to swipe up. Just pick up phone and swipe up.

I think they should include an option where you pucker your lips to go home instead of having to swipe up. LOL

I can understand why they don't want the home screen to automatically appear when your face unlocks the phone. BUT the front camera system should be smart enough to detect a lip pucker, right? :)

Just swipe up as soon as you pick your phone up problem solved.

Exactly. Its been confirmed in a few places that you don't need to wait for FaceID to do its thing as its so quick, you just swipe up when you pick your phone up.
