The amount of people who think this is only going to apply to iPhones is comical. Another site that focuses on Android has several articles where the people leaving comments think that somehow the government won't get a backdoor into Android and Blackberry once they get it on iOS.

Of course, backdoors for hackers on Android is already built-in... it's called turning the device on.

I'm not surprised at all, given that Bill is a proponent of 1 World Govt

I'm glad someone else here is in the know. Yes Bill is very much part of the NWO. You should here some of the things that come out of his mouth. He also is a huge advocate for vaccinations in children.

Hi Bill! Want the master decryption key for my bitlocker encrypted files? what's that, you already have a copy that you share with the feds? nevermind.

Whoah, this escalated quickly. First, the FBI doesn't want a special customized software version. They want a phone that is flashed with the special customized software version. That's a whole different story. As far as I know, it's not possible to extract IPSW files from phones. Apple doesn't have to release the special firmware. They can also prevent it from being used by simply not signing the firmware. As I said, it's not even possible to downgrade to an iOS firmware version of choice (of which IPSW files are publicly available). Why would it be possible to flash a custom iOS firmware version that is only available inside Apple and is not being signed by Apple? How would that be possible? Apple has full control.

I get your point too. I know the FBI doesnt want the software they only want the unlocked phone. But to get the unlocked phone the software needs to exist and just hoping it stays in the Apple headquarter is a slippery slope too.

Just a point, I think Apple would have to sign this version of iOS. Thats the point. I guess the phone wouldnt accept an unsigned update just like it doesnt accept older signed versions. But I could be wrong here. But you say it yourself why would it be possible to flash firmware that is not signed by Apple.

But then again they could probably prevent iphones going forward to not accept this older signed special firmware from Apple. But then the next step is again, I'm sorry, what about the next iphone that needs this surgery ...?

stop people from pouring over the border illegally, this includes whatever terrorists may be coming over, then we'll talk about the significance of one little phone.

And you know this how? Please quote source for your information.

Obviously you know I can't quote any sources. It's my opinion and I share the same as many others who strongly feel the Feds know all about this phone.

This is clearly a way for them to penetrate the iOS encryption which is the best in the business. The government has been using false flags for decades to get what they want.

The ‘nothing to hide’ trope.

Go to your local PD and give them:

Your online account names and passwords, all of them;
Printed copies of all your text messages sent and received;
Printed copies of all your email messages sent and received;
Physically hand them your phone and let them copy anything.

Film yourself doing this; create a YouTube account to prove it.

Put up or shut up.

Forget the local PD. Go to the hackers and terrorist and give the same information.This is the whole argument by Apple, the bigger danger is not the Police/FBI.

The FBI needs to prevent people from hating the U.S. to start with. This country has more jails than universities. Start by investigating the government.
Wouldn't that be counterproductive? If we started investigating the government, we would need more jails.

i'm sorry but it's not the same as when someone asks for access to bank records or telephone records. Apple don't have the information the FBI are asking for. The FBI want Apple to design a custom version of iOS that will allow them to break into the phone. That's an entirely different thing. Apple have already given the FBI what they do have access to- The available iCloud data.

Says "Patch" Gates, the man who's OS allowed malware, viruses, and other security breaches to the point it created a whole new PC security economy.

Gates gone and lost his mind. It is ok, we know Microsoft receives a huge amount of revenue from the federal government.

He should probably go back to fighting mosquitos.

FBI:
give me all information you've got
like now
and for ever
We are not google so we won't sell it
We will just simply hack it all
for now and for ever
gonna be such fun

Gates: sure we've did it already so many times, come on Apple, just take off clothes and close your eyes, just pretend its another google stealing your secrets

Google: we sell privacy for money, always did and always will. Apple come on, join us, btches

I like Bill because of his charity efforts but this is like a human rights issue. Setting a precedent that the government can require companies to put backdoors in their products or weaken security in any way is very bad.

I'm honestly surprised that Bill would not realise the full ramifications of this. The FBI is using this case to get their foot in the door that's all. If they succeed then the NSA, CIA, GCHQ (UK), FIS (Russia) and whoever else will demand the same firmware that the FBI wants.

It will not just be about one terrorists phone. It will be about every phone in the world.

Microsoft has always been in bed with the government and with corporate management, assisting them in snooping on and controlling users of their lousy operating system and enterprise products. It is no surprise that this jerk is siding with the FBI in this case, since a victory for the FBI would be a blow to one of Apple's main differentiating qualities over companies like Google and Microsoft.

Google and Facebook secretly agree with Gates, but they are pretending otherwise to avoid the public shaming and customer revolt they would experience if they admitted they don't care about privacy.

Don't mix rational things like protecting our privacy with NWO crap. What's wrong with vaccinations anyway? Do you like polio?

I've got to admit, this really surprises me. He's got the tech savvy to understand the implications of when a tool exists. And he's had enough experience with governments both at Microsoft and his foundation to know that a tool is never used just once.

Exactly. In other words, Gates is not making this statement out of ignorance. He is taking a well-informed position against privacy and civil liberties and in favor of an authoritarian surveillance state with oppressive police powers. I cringe every time I read someone defending Gates as a humanitarian.

The point of saying local PD: It is local, accessible, and where you actually know who it is that has your data and access to it, not effectively invisible-to-you non-local governmental agencies and, in your good point, hackers and terrorists.

Simply: “Give your local PD access. If you won’t, then shut up.” ;);)
