Saw this on Daringfireball.net this morning ..

"The single most frequent question I’ve been asked since the event is whether the jet black iPhone is slippery. It’s not. Again, much like the old 3G and 3GS iPhones, the glossy rear surface has a very pleasant tackiness — certainly not sticky, but grippy. Based on my (admittedly limited) time in the hands-on area, I’d call it the least slippery iPhone Apple has ever made."

Personally if I was buying I just take whichever was available. If both were avaialbe I like the matte black. I don't like bling and I could keep matte black looking new a lot longer than Jet. Likely the case will scratch up Jet.

Been struggling all day with this. Decided to go jet black for these reasons:
1. The antenna lines, although moved to the edges are far less noticeable on the jet.
2. Maybe it's just the pictures but the matte black sort of reminds me of the Apple charcoal silicone case.
3. Something really new. Since the iPhone 7 really doesn't look different then the 6 or 6s, the jet black brings a fresh new feeling.

Exactly this! Had to go with the Jet Black!

You honestly can't go wrong, they both look sick af

I was only able to secure matte Black with the iPhone Upgrade Program but then managed to get a 256GB Jet Black to go through AT&T Next. Now I'm kind of wondering if I should stick with the matte and return the Jet Black but I know at the end of the day Jet Black is the one that actually looks the most like a different iPhone so I'll probably just keep it.

so the JetBlack is out of stock in UAE while all other colors are in stock with large quantities and if you order from Apple site, you get delivery date up to October/November on the JB so that's mean this color is the winner? and will be the most popular or apple produced very low quantity for this color?
For me the JetBlack in videos and photos doesn't look impressive but if you try and see the phone in real, you could change your opinion.

I really need to create a filter on this forum to ignore all posts with the word 'gate' in the title. Enough is enough.

I chose 128GB 7+ JB. October 4-10 ship date. Apple Upgrade Program.

New video for the JB, I would say it looks special in this video, there is smudges but it is still looks special and a clear case will be enough to protect it.
Conclusion: I would say if you will get the 128GB version, go for the JetBlack

We have seen this every time Apple launches a new color, "from the video I saw I don't like that new color". "On that picture that I saw on the web that new color looks ugly, hate it" "According to that review on YouTube the finish wont last" etc, etc... But as long as people start to see them in person, most fall in love with the new color...

I got faith in Apple, so I got the Jet Black (7+ 256gb).

I was set on the Jet Black, but couldn't pre-order for launch day delivery. Ended up getting a black 256 GB phone. We'll see how I like it. Fingerprints on my cases annoy me; probably better that I got the black instead of the jet black.

By the time the thing is all scratched up I will smashed the screen already, I'll just pay the $99 for the replacement device as usual with AppleCare. If it's not bad I'll just pay the $29 and get the screen repaired

Not to mention that Jet Black isn't even a new color. The black iPhone 3G/3GS is basically the same glossy black. Ditto for the black iPhone 4/4s (albeit different material).

I was set on jet black as well, but overslept and woke up at 3:07, and by the time I went to pick phone the jet black was already on 4-6 weeks backorder. So I just settled on a 128 gb regular black.

I disagree. Jet black feels plasticy, scratchy and smudgy. Matt black feels solid quality and durability. I dont do cases anymore either so i go with the one that wont be as prone to scratches. Just ordered myself a 128gb black.
"The feeling of matte black on my salad fingers is almost orgasmic."

That is worrisome seeing these hands on reviews with people reporting scratches/wear just within the short time frame after the event. I am not liking how these will wear over time, seems to fragile for my liking. This is not the only review I read reporting this either.

Keep in mind that hundreds of people were touching the same phone. Crowded event, sweaty hands, probably not handling the phone like it's their own, etc.

Exactly, hundreds of people were touching the phone, so this means the chances of scratches are a lot higher than just one person. Also a clear case will simply solve the problem.

I get that but the hands on sessions are what two hours or so post event. I would not expect a ~$900 phone to have any marks. I am sure they don't just let the people there just carelessly throw them around as they know editors will be making videos and don't want bad publicity of seeing a beat up phones. Why do you think they have people going around wiping them down (you can see in some videos) to keep them as fresh as possible as this is the only real life videos consumers see prior to launch. I have a bad feeling about this one....but I guess we will see in a few days.

I also feel by Apple putting the warning on the site this will be there way of NOT replacing them when these start to show wear. Its hard to not believe the many editors that the color is nice in person but would steer clear.

I wouldn't put it past one or two folks to purposely try to mark up the phone in effort to write a story about it.
