Do we really need these sorts of comments? It's like kids in a playground "my toys bettter than yours" who cares as long as YOU are happy with it!

I was just stating the jet black is the one that looks like a shiny plastic toy, i think the poster i replied to mixed up matte with jet. ;)

This thread is nothing more than a giant pissing contest.

Really, it doesn't matter what color you get if you're going to slap a case on it anyway. Matte Black owners will be happy with theirs and ditto for JB owners, naked or cased.

Wait until the Intel/Qualcomm iPhone modem chip wars.

Keep trying to tell yourself that. Kids always want the hottest thing that has a mirror finish. Like chrome wheels, and other shiny parts. Most adult men are older and already experienced that and have learned that it's smarter to not go with the shiny as they have actually experienced phones like this and were fingerprint magnets.

Matte black is the way to go. Most of the time cleaning anything shiny on clothes will just smear it more.

LOL is everyone serious? Color / finish is a preference. Who cares what color someone else gets. It definitely doesn't make you anymore 'manly' by picking one finish or another.

I'm really confused by these types of threads.. questioning people's masculinity, worrying about SOMEONE ELSE'S resale value next year.. wth? Grow up.

C'mon guys, since it's all about preference, there is no wrong answer.

I ordered Jet Black at midnight, then paid full price for Matte Black a day later. Was given the same delivery date. Without seeing either, but basing off of reviews and unboxing vids, Jet Black looks nice, but a little boujie for my tastes. Matte Black seems like more of a finish for what I like. Looking forward to unboxing each and deciding when the time comes.

I've read every jet black vs. black post here on macrumors. I honestly feel like its the people who bought the Black iPhone who are trying to justify their decisions rather than the JB folks. The JB folks know they took a risk and know its pretty much too late to change their decisions whereas the Black iPhone folks know they didn't take the risk.

Anyway, we should all chill. Buying a phone won't justify how manly you are. I also don't think the JB will look like "lego" or "not be premium". From all accounts, I hear the JB actually looks and feels really premium in real life.

The way I see it: JB is a riskier purchase for the reasons we all know. But with greater risk, there is greater thrill. It's also the most "different" color. Black is a safe purchase (for reasons we all know) but it won't have the same "wow" factor as the JB.

I initially leaned towards the Black because it was described as "stealth" and very high tech (or something along those lines). However, I changed to JB because I wanted something that looked different than the matte iPhone I already had. It was a risk but I'm happy I took it. I think I would have regretted it otherwise.

This Jet black is pretty similar to the u2 special edition 5th ipod right?

It has a black stainless steel back. Not sure if the front is metal as well

Okay guys, war is over. Matte black is officially better. In a few weeks we'll see tons of thread about scratched Jet Black
. The one who still manage to keep their phone pristine are the ones who never get to look or touch it since it's either wrapped in a skin or a case. Oh and make sure you check the curved edge everytime you put the case on and off since don't be surprised if you'll see little scratches around that area

I just can't wait for all the folks coming on here to complain that their JB phones are scratched up and whatnot. Even though Apple and all the reviewers have said it all along.
Even beyond the scratching aspect, I really like the color of the Matte black much better. The JB is indeed classic but too reminiscent of the 3GS for me.

Totally agree with this. Adding some of my own thoughts, for me with this being the 3rd phone in a row with the same design, I'm excited to get the Jet Black because it's genuinely different. Apple hasn't made a phone with a similar finish in years, so I'm excited to just enjoy an iPhone that looks and feel 'new'. I also sort of feel like it's the special edition or something given the lack of availability and lack of 32GB option.

You said it best; matte black is great, but I would've regretted it otherwise :) I actually ordered both phones and will be returning one, but I already know I'm going to keep the JB

I think the fingerprints on the matte black might be worse since it's harder to just wipe off than it would be on a glossy surface. The person who got this phone said since it's hard to wipe off, they're running it under the sink haha.

Jet Black looks best when new.

A few months old it'll really look horrible. Scratches and scuffs will be common, no way to avoid it.

There's going to be lots of unhappy owners.

If people worry about scuffs on a productivity tool then one can assume they ought to have more serious issues to worry about in their life than how their mobile device has got scuffs.

Jeez what has this thread become, people haven't even got their phones in hand yet and all they can think about is resale value in 12 months time and nurturing an electronic device like its their first born.

Tell you what don't buy the iPhone and automatically you have got full resale value 12 months early no scuffs/scratches and no shipping to pay too. Then you can put that money toward not buying the next iPhone and instantly get the full retail resale value back in your bank before it leaves your bank.

I've been saying that in every black phone discussion I've had and everyone denies it because of some preconceptions, jet will be easy to wipe. Every video I've seen of matte always looks worse as far as prints/smudges. Everyone ignores it and as soon as I point it out all the excuses come out as to why that particular instance has more smudges. You know after they said the jet did until presented with the evidence. Check the thread about the first unboxing last night on here.

I dunno, in the few in boxing videos I've seen comparing the two, I've noticed more fingerprints on the matte black than jet. (Seems illogical)

Oh dear, people already know about these issues, but JB owners are not as anal as you. It seems to me you are more bothered about other people's JB phones just to justify your own purchase.

Or it could be JB owners already know about these issues and not as bothered about them as you are? They lead a happy life and don't give a toss?

So what do you want? All potential JB owners not to buy and buy Matte black? Is that your end game to make you feel happy?
