Exactly. Noone can make a 10" tablet and compete with Apple on price.

Not entirely true.

There seems to be a lot of legit activity. I wouldn't buy a Blackberry tablet that is for sure, when I can have a tablet that has _full_ OS functionality. Windows 7 may be what it is standing next to OSX on computers, but I think having a full OS on a tablet is a much better product.

SSD, HD movies, Flash, and the ability to run Windows apps. That just does it for me. The iPad is great, and the best right now. But there are plenty of cool products around the corner. It's a shame they didn't put OSX on the iPad.

I'll get a Win7 tablet and actually have a full computer at the ready. Worth it!

Oh please. Android will lose market share if the iphone moves beyond ATT in the US. Luckily for the competition Apple won't be doing this until 2012 at least.

Now call me a fanboy and get it out of your system.

Lose market share in the US. How about the world?

Nobody had the hands on one but a lot of fanboys here know that this device has a crappy screen and whatsoever.
Why don´t go for magicans and see in the future ... but wait magical and devices are only made by apple....
And all the mistakes apple makes are features not bugs ..... yeah

There ain't no way in hell that Playbook will best the ipad.
That crap will fail like the Sony internet tv. I played with it at the sony style store at my local mall yesterday. POS!!!!!! That controller is typical Sony bloat. Filled edge to edge with godd**** buttons, that do what? Who the hell knows!
And not one of the dozen, beam me up scottie, star trek clothed employees asked me for any help. FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!

Please tell us how you really feel?

Android will decline if Apple moves the iphone to other carriers. And that will be a big blow to them. Its a fact, not a "fanboy" response. When the day comes that iphone moves beyond ATT you will want to own shares of AAPL.

And don't forget, while comparing iPad to PlayBook, RIM's offering has a significantly smaller screen than Apple's, at presumably the same pricepoint.

Has anyone had hands-on experience with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" screen tablet with the Android OS that Google says isn't optimized for a tablet device, yet? Just curious what are one's honest opinions if they had and, not it's not Apple 9.7" size therefore... opinion. Just curious.

It's a fact? I didn't know that predictions were facts. I thought predictions were guesses and assumptions. Or are you using a different dictionary?

There aren't that many tablets out there to begin with and no, netbooks do not count as tablets.

RIM is a powerful company and will remain to be around for years. I'll give you a hint. They're in Canada, not the USA.

I'll agree with you that they'll be around for a while, I don't don't think it was anything to do with being based in USA or Canada.

It's because they offer a good service and many people depend on it. And since their UI is getting better, so they'll likely be fine.

Ok don't buy AAPL then. I will.

Look at my track record on predictions. NYT and WSJ have been wrong about the Verizon iphone over and over for years. I've been right every time. So take it as fact. It is just as good.

Basically the other smart phones ARE iphones. The entire market would not exist if Apple hadn't of released the iphone. We'd have the Razor 5 right now. Now before you go on a rant about apple not inventing the technology in the iphone, I didn't say they did. They created a market that has exploded and that is significant. There are many people who will get the "true iphone" once it comes to their carrier.

Its like other dominant products. We say "fridge" because once frigidair was dominant. We should just call all smart phones iphones really.

"What kind of iphone do you have?"
"I have an Android iphone".
"Oh, I have the real one."

Personally I don't own a smart phone. Instead of spending the money on the product, I invested in the company. So when you and your friends buy your Verizon iphone in 2012 I will say "thanks".

2.) RIM made a mistake naming this thing a "playbook" that is dumb. Something like 70% of blackberry users are in biz they don't want to bring a 'playbook' to a meeting! That just seems childish!

RIM's whole marketing campaign for this was about being a leisure device, not business. Thus "playbook". They want to focus on the non-business consumer market with it. They didn't demo any business oriented apps, but the apps did look quite ipad-ish :)

Right. That definitely explains the success of the PC industry...

What's with the wasted space thick border like the iPad?

You must have never used an iPad before. The thick bevel enables you to not have your fingers (when you hold the device) interfere with interactions on the screen.

1) take it as fact because you're some "authority" - no thanks. You're an anonymous prognosticator on the internet. Nothing more. Nothing less.

2) How old are you? I ask because it's relevant. There were definitely smart phones way before the iPhone and people knew them to be smart phones. The market had several before the iPhone came out almost 3.5 years ago. Don't rewrite history just to try and make a point. The FACT is - you are 100 percent, Grade A WRONG if you think the smart phone market didn't exist before the iPhone

3) I don't know anyone and can't imagine the iPhone being ubiquitous for smartphone. Ever. I've seen plenty of technology come and go without becoming the "slang" term. But again - dream on.

4) Good for you for not owning a smart phone. If work didn't necessitate one for me I doubt I'd have one too.

5) What does owning stock in Apple have anything to do with this discussion. I'll tell you. Nothing. Who cares but you? And when did I say I wouldn't buy stock in Apple? Talk about your lame straw man tactic.

None of these "me too" companies (and yes, BB is "me too" when it comes to tabs) are destine to fail if all they can do is be Apple clones. Success will only be found by trying to be the next Apple.

Right now it's just follow the leader -- Apple being the leader.

CES 2011 will no doubt be stocked with tablets of every size, resolution, and OS displayed like horny peacocks looking for a mate. There will be unique features in some, but probably not killer enough to attract more than passing attention. We've seen this movie several times in the iPod's hey day.

Then once the CES exhibitors have patted themselves on the back and packed up thinking they have narrowed the score, Steve will take the stage in late Jan/early Feb and Boom! Game clock reset.

Apple must love all these competitors products b/c they only make theirs look even better.

No one has even seen on of these yet. Their demo video of their tablet was a CGI generated tablet showing how they would like it look.

They float this crap to try to keep people from buying the iPad for xmas and to try to keep corporations from buying Apple also.

The odds they will have a shipping product, bad or good, by then end of the first quarter of next year is a pipe dream...

Uh yeah...the thing was on display at AdobeMAX a couple of weeks ago. We also had a full presentation from one of the big guns regarding the open nature of the os to allow Flash programmers to build AIR apps for it.
I personally didn't like the size of it...too small. The bezel is touch enabled too which may or may not present problems.

It's a sports reference. If anything, it applies more to the business user than the consumer.

Why don't you just enlighten us then why the Mac never managed to obtain a significant market-share globally? Could it -maybe- have something to do with vendor lock-in and walled gardens? Is there a chance that people do NOT want to be forced to buy hard- and software from the same company?

Windows is so successful because Microsoft simply doesn't care on what machine you are going to use it - use a washing machine with an Intel CPU, if you want. It's your choice. But whatever hardware you use, you will still have THE industry standard platform and will be able to run your software on it.

And as it seems, Android is going to be the industry standard for mobile devices, and history is going to repeat itself: After the initial success of Apple's Walled Garden, the open - and cheaper! - systems will prevail.

In the end, people always prefer choice over restriction.

They had one available to play with at AdobeMAX. I think it's an odd shape but seemed to work well for the short time that I played with it.

The bezel is touch enabled? Interesting. What function did it serve?

Gartner expects that in 2014 Android will have around 30% marketshare and iOS only around 15%. IDC expects Android to have 25% marketshare and iOS only around 11%. Also Android is currently sold in less countries than the iPhone.

I doubt the US market will have such a big impact when it comes to worldwide marketshare. Have a look at Nokia that have around 2% in the US but 36% worldwide.

How is it that these people can't compete with Apple a year after Apple released the iPad? They are reacting to the market and they can't even put something out that competes with the current market offering.

Seems like the definition of wasted R&D money.

You comment seems to be the definition of wasted education.
