You must have never used an iPad before. The thick bevel enables you to not have your fingers (when you hold the device) interfere with interactions on the screen.

1) take it as fact because you're some "authority" - no thanks. You're an anonymous prognosticator on the internet. Nothing more. Nothing less.

2) How old are you? I ask because it's relevant. There were definitely smart phones way before the iPhone and people knew them to be smart phones. The market had several before the iPhone came out almost 3.5 years ago. Don't rewrite history just to try and make a point. The FACT is - you are 100 percent, Grade A WRONG if you think the smart phone market didn't exist before the iPhone

3) I don't know anyone and can't imagine the iPhone being ubiquitous for smartphone. Ever. I've seen plenty of technology come and go without becoming the "slang" term. But again - dream on.

4) Good for you for not owning a smart phone. If work didn't necessitate one for me I doubt I'd have one too.

5) What does owning stock in Apple have anything to do with this discussion. I'll tell you. Nothing. Who cares but you? And when did I say I wouldn't buy stock in Apple? Talk about your lame straw man tactic.

I can't wait to see the reply to this!

It's a little sad how much this resembles the iPad. I mean, it looks like they did the maximum allowable amount of copyright infringement.

To be honest, what dramatic design change did you expect??? It is a TABLET after all. I am sure Apple spent all of five minutes designing the front of the iPad.

C'mon people stop being Apple fanboi's. I for one hope the "blackberry iPad" performs very well and is priced very competitively. WHY??? Competition is what drives innovation and cheaper prices.

I will forever be amazed at the amount of people on here that despise all things not Apple. Shear foolishness...

You don't need to call an iphone a "smart phone" because everyone knows it is. All other phones need that qualifier. might as well call them "iphone". What brand of "iphone" do you own?

Owning Apple stock is very relevant. When the day comes that Apple moves the iphone beyond ATT you know the stock will go up. Why? Because the market share will increase. You will want to own it. And you will take a close look at the competition when that day comes before buying their stock. You know its true.

I'm sorry to have gotten you all bound up with very accurate predictions. I do not say these things because I am a "fanboy". I say them because they are true. But I've seen you lob "fanboy" style arguments around on this very thread. Something about kissing S. Job's backside. And now you seem very worked up emotionally over my statements.

You know what I believe? I believe all these people lobbing "fanboy" around are really projecting their own anti-fanboy emotional responses onto others. It is definitely a form of projection. Try not to be so emotional about it. Sure Apple created the strong market for smart phones. You can point to some niche market that existed previously to calm yourself but someday, when you are able to, you will examen it with an unbiased filter and know the truth.

Why don't you just enlighten us then why the Mac never managed to obtain a significant market-share globally? Could it -maybe- have something to do with vendor lock-in and walled gardens? Is there a chance that people do NOT want to be forced to buy hard- and software from the same company?

Maybe if the mac was a phone released a few years ago things would be different. Should I explain why a blueberry pie didn't win the raspberry pie contest too?

LOL. This guy is full of fail. This is supposed to be a thread about the BB Playbook and he is spouting ridiculousness about how he is some kind of "Apple-branded nostradomis (sp?)". HILARIOUS :D

1. I haven't lobbed the term fanboy and I never said anything about kissing anyone's backside. Are your predictions as "accurate" as your shoddy research? Please point out where I said anything remotely like this.

2. I'm not emotional. I find it hilarious that people are bent out of whack because a report came out that more people own Android devices. How horrible!

3. The stock price has no bearing on this discussion because we're not discussing a company's worth. We were discussing the the Blackberry tablet computer. But perhaps you didn't notice the subject heading

4. Treos, Blackberries and other phones were known as smart phones. Were referred to as smart phones. And this all pre-dated the iPhone. Sorry. You are wrong. They don't need qualifiers. Again - stop trying to rewrite HISTORY.

5. Talk about projection? Hello POT!

Your reply back to me was a waste of your time and mine. You didn't add anything new. And you certainly didn't write anything of value.

Oh boy. A literal reader.

I'm glad you enjoy the show, even if it goes over your head...

Wow. Blackberry's much smaller device will cost the same as an iPad.

That should really hurt iPad sales.

Lots of anti-everythingthat'snotApple fanboys in this thread. Geez people, can't you give this even the slightest of chances?

Not entirely true.

There seems to be a lot of legit activity. I wouldn't buy a Blackberry tablet that is for sure, when I can have a tablet that has _full_ OS functionality. Windows 7 may be what it is standing next to OSX on computers, but I think having a full OS on a tablet is a much better product.

SSD, HD movies, Flash, and the ability to run Windows apps. That just does it for me. The iPad is great, and the best right now. But there are plenty of cool products around the corner. It's a shame they didn't put OSX on the iPad.

I'll get a Win7 tablet and actually have a full computer at the ready. Worth it!

That device is going to be at or less than $499 US Dollars?

...As a developer, I think Apple did a fantastic job on multitasking on iOS. It's extremely powerful on the backend for mobile Apps. Where I think Apple failed was the multitasking UI. I hope iOS 5 gives us a better UI for multitasking. Right now, it still feels like you're running one app at a time.

And often forget to close unused apps and then wonder why your battery drain so fast...

P.S. I don't like to post right after marksman ^^^ (and not before either) ;)

RIM is a powerful company and will remain to be around for years. I'll give you a hint. They're in Canada, not the USA.

So was Nortel and look where that got them. You probably thought they were to big to fail also. Things change fast in this world...

How is it that these people can't compete with Apple a year after Apple released the iPad? They are reacting to the market and they can't even put something out that competes with the current market offering.

Seems like the definition of wasted R&D money.

I don't think it's a waste. Just think... if companies can't react to Apple even a year after iPad is released, just think how utterly advanced iOS is, not to mention Apple's supply chain and marketing power.

the iPod was a jab, the iPhone a right cross, the iPad a body blow... just waiting for the uppercut or haymaker :)

We can comment. This black pad will have no development community. And I'm willing to bet my money that the OS won't even come close to iOS. it's going to take a lot for anyone to come up with something that will beat WebOS.

You're wrong. Again. And you're contradicting yourself.

As for development community, if all goes well, Adobe AIR will run on it just fine, which means entire world of Flash content developers who will seamlessly develop and publish from same code base to iOS, AIR, TV, Web, etc.. How neat is that?

"If you listen to the pundits, we will price this thing at under $1000, which is code for $999" - Steve Jobs

Not sure if that is the exact quote, but you get the point. Under $500 is code for $499

Jesus christ, can that bezel get any bigger? We're in 2010 folks, why do companies continue making these butt-ugly devices? Make the screen bigger, morons!

Anyway, I predict this thing is going to fail in the mass market, only appealing to techheads who absolutely do not want to use Apple's system.

The thing is, an iPad competetor actually have to be a lot CHEAPER than the iPad because of Apple's strong design/quality brand recognition. People expect to pay an Apple tax. At the same price and only 7" (and ugly as ****), I think people will feel the iPad is a much better deal.

Considering how many more features this has than the oversized iPhone we might see Apple take their technology and advertise the new iPad and innovating!

How many more features? I saw the press event and it really only had one; facetime copy.

Trust me. MS tried that approach several times and it does not work. Actually it is the reason the market was never really explored by anyone else and why no one gave apple any change as succeeding with the iPad. A computer OS does not work on a tablet, which is why Apple used iOS and not OSX for the OS on the iPad.

Are you kidding me? You are posting this on a MacRumors for crying out loud. What do you expect? Go to AndroidRumors. People come to this site, now keep this on the down low, because they want to read about Mac Rumors. I realize the name of the web site is a little confusing to less intelligent people but I will let you in on the secret... :D

PFT. How self-important do you think you are? Gotta love when someone makes predictions and then spouts as facts (or is it "just as good as facts"). You really should carry a dictionary with you at all times because your grasp of the English language boarders on elementary.

P.S. If you owned a smart phone (notice how I didn't call it an iphone) then you wouldn't have to carry the actual dictionary in book form. You could have right there on your SMART PHONE. :p

I will have to repeat your same question. Are you joking? Yes, this forum revolves around Apple products; however, if that is the only thing that matters to you then why aren't you attacking the forum for posting a 'rumor' story about something that is not an Apple product? I will answer that second question for you. Because the BB Playbook is relevant or has the possibility to be relevant in that it might (notice I said MIGHT) be able to compete with the iPad.

To all the loveEverythingThatIsAppleEvenIfItsCrap people out there. Please just don't even speak. Competition is always a good thing. If Apple didn't have any competitors they wouldn't have any reason to change any features on the iPad.

Xerox didn't have any compition until their patents expired. They innovated without compition.

The breakup of Ma Bell was a good thing???

Apple will continue to improve, with or without compition.

Yes. Apple will continue to improve. But without a competitor - there's no comparison nor any urgency to a timeline.

The bottom line is - everyone should be embracing CHOICES in the marketplace instead of trying to create or imply that Apple should have/deserves/etc a monopoly.
