Homescreen is only the start of what the iPad needs. If it wants to justify a $2700 investment (Including the magic keyboard/pencil) then it really needs more powerful multitasking/background modes for apps. IE if I leave an app that is processing something in the background...don't kill it after 10 minutes.

Idk why someone is giving a thumbs down.

They just took their mac specific ARM chip and put it in an ipad. Anyone who doesn't believe that macos isn't coming to the iPad is either insanely ignorant or oblivious at this point.
It will not come to the iPad, I think Apples goal is to have three separate OS’s... the key is separating iOS and iPadOS, this marginally started last year with no App Library on the iPad and the inability to place widgets wherever you need to.

Last year was quite a decent refresh for both macOS and iOS, this year they will just get more refined with iPadOS getting a much needed refresh which is likely to separate it entirely from iOS and MacOS and be its own OS in its own right.

With the M1 running on both, developers now have the power to create the exact same applications for both systems and that would make running MacOS on the iPad Pro irrelevant. Windowed multitasking would be about the only difference. I also think we will see applications become M1 only for the iPad. I just want a more intuitive multitasking interface for the iPad and to be able to place my app icons where I want..

I REALLY hope Apple brings Spatial Audio on AirPods Pro to the AppleTV. With a refreshed and beefed up AppleTV now unveiled, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s announced at WWDC as part of the new tvOS. Please, if anyone at Apple reads these comments, JUST DO IT!!

Apple needs to fundamentally change how multitasking works on the iPad. The current iteration is too clunky and doesn’t take advantage of the latest a series processors, and now m1. The iPad’s multitasking interface is one of its biggest limitations in my opinion. Apple could and should implement something similar to a Samsung Dex mode for better multitasking.

Also, it’s video output mode via hdmi is currently limited to mirror mode only, although some individual apps implement a true dual display. The ability to have different things displayed on the iPad screen and the external screen needs to occur at the operating system level, similar to how it’s done on the Mac. Especially now that iPad will have m1 and thunderbolt.

let’s go Apple! You can do it!

If any notification system needs to be improved, it’s the one in Big Sur. They totally messed it up. I hope that will be improved in the new version of macOS.

So true. And Notification Center still freezes/crashes constantly.

Great news! But let’s hope it makes things easier and not more complicated. we already have Driving mode, do not disturb, bedtime, mute, ...

and while at it: block an app from sending multiple messages in a row. You know, from people that find it necessary to send you each word in a separate message.

What's so unrealistic about turning a device with mac hardware into a mac when connected to a dock? No need to reinvent the wheel. Just take the handcuffs off.

Because it creates a whole load of problems to get a proper workflow unless you want a clunky solution. If it turns on Mac OS when connected to a dock you will have a delay whenever docking and undocking as it is switching the OS. How do you continue working if your program runs when docked but you are plugging out? How do you work on the go? If it works while being on the go how does it switch between the modes? Are they going to have a UI for Mac OS that is more tablet friendly that it switches to like Microsoft does with Win 10?

I think it is much more likely that Apple wants to keep them separate but having them run the same Apps (sold through the App store only for iPad). The problem for the iPad is more about the software available and not about what UI is used.

I am sure WWDC is the beginning of this push, they will present that their own pro apps are now available on iPad due to it running the M1 (even though they could have done it before) and they will pull out some other developers that have worked on it. Might even pull out some gaming developers that will have their M1 Mac games working on iPad Pro’s.

The Lock Screen is such a big missed opportunity in iPhones.

Apple Watch has all sorts of useful complications that allow you to instantly see a lot of useful data at a glance.

The iPhone Lock Screen - which is much larger than a watch - only shows the time and notifications.

I would love to see Apple bring something like complications to the iPhone lock screen, but I am not holding my breath that this is what the revamped Lock Screen will actually bring.

In other words, my initial impressions of Tuesday were correct (if this rumor is true). More awesome hardware improvements but running basically the same old software. The "convergence" people are going to be disappointed this summer.

I really and truly believe that the internal upgrades that have been made to iPad Pro were solely for the purpose of running higher caliber apps, not some crazy new version of macOS for touch. It's just not going to happen.

Exactly. In my mind, macOS on an iPad Pro would be a bad experience. macOS caliber APPS on an iPad though, that could be a wonderful experience. Also, I still don't get why people want to touch their laptop screens. Even when I was a daily 12.9" iPad Pro user, I almost never touched the screen or used the Apple Pencil with it when I was in laptop mode.

Can we please have the ability to place apps at the bottom of the screen and not the top? Been waiting for soooo long. Also, if this iPad rumor is true, that’s a disappointment. No macOS coming to the iPad I guess. :(

Let’s hope the redesigned Home Screen will be one of the least significant changes to iPadOS 15.

After giving iPad Pro a Mac CPU, the iPadOS better become much closer to MacOS than iOS.

This article is exactly why I am holding off on replacing my 2018 IPP with the new one. No sense in buying a Ferrari if you can't take it on the highway.
Give me MacOS on iPad (when I want/iPAd OS when I want)
if you aren't giving me that give me ability to run MacOS apps in container
if you aren't giving me that give me Logic Pro on iPad
if you aren't giving me that give iPad windows and real mutli-tasking (don't suspend background apps!)
if you aren't giving me that you aren't getting me to upgrade my iPad.

What I would really like for is for certain notifications to be marked as urgent and can break through the Do Not Disturb mode.

Right now when I go to bed my sleep routine kicks in and do not disturb kicks in and silences ALL notifications, however I would like the ability to still allow my home security notifications through as those would be kinda urgent to address, messages and social media can wait until morning.

I currently have calls allowed through Do Not Disturb as if you are calling me it’s usually pretty important, but there currently isn’t a way to mark certain apps to be allowed through, it’s either all are allowed or none are allowed.
Same. I also can't use the Sleep Mode when I'm on call because it forces DND on.

If this finally allows me to use Sleep Mode/DND, but have exceptions for SMS I'll be elated.

Signal covers this quite well on both platforms, no?
Signal is just missing a watchOS app, honestly. It'd be nice to have CarPlay intergration as well, but I'd be happy just to have the equivalent iMessage experience on my watch, as interacting with notifications is a half-baked workaround.
