I recently got my iPad Air replaced on friday with 8.02 installed. I erased all settings and content and when I restored everything to my new iPad Air I thought my iCloud doc data was gone but it just took a few minutes for it all to come back. Not sure how long people are waiting but I did not have this problem.

"Erase all Content and Settings" doesn't trigger the bug, it's only "Reset all Settings".

All the Apple's experts and executives are working on the Apple Watch. Now the rest of the company is managed by a group of chimpanzees and some trainees (or trannies, idk)

Whoa, slow down there, pilgrim. Put your knee back in a vertical position. What I said had nothing to do with Jobs's talents. He did huge things. But under his tenure iOS releases were not as big as iOS 8, except for of course the first one. New features were metered out more slowly. It also may be the case that iOS 8 is just a crossroads where many things came to fruition, and future iOS releases will be more like 2.0-6.0.

That's like saying, Cheetah to Jaguar wasn't as big an update as Tiger to Leopard. They are completely different times (2001 vs 2007). In 2007 there are bigger software advances, better hardware and better services. That's why it's pointless comparing early iOS updates with iOS 8.

I don't want Google looking through my stuff and using it to advertise to me.
Yep that's the main reason I don't use it, it's like walking naked through Central Park.

This is becoming like the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire:eek:

People can bitch and moan about iCloud issues all they want. 99% of the time it is the premier consumer cloud service.

Wow, iOS 8 just keeps getting worse and worse

It all started with iOS 7, really...

My paranoia about using cloud services for data I give the slightest damn about continues to be kept very healthy and encouraged by reality.

Strike .... 4? 3? Heh. I lost count.
No kidding!

I've never ever been so happy to NOT be using a new iPhone right now. It's the buggiest, sloppy revision of iOS ever.

This makes Apple look like sheer amateurs. Luckily they've got the most tolerant group of users of any brand. All these failure in such a short time would seriously harm any company but Apple. Their true expertise is influencing people and using those people to defend Apples blunders.

I'm sure glad it's Apple. If it was Android, the Apple using Android haters would explode and launch an attack unlike we've ever seen before.

If it was Android, the Apple using Android haters would explode and launch an attack unlike we've ever seen before.

Instead since it is Apple, the Android using Apple haters have exploded and launched an attack unlike we've ever seen before.

I've noticed that a lot of people on here are talking about continuing to use OneDrive over iCloud Drive, while hardly anyone is talking about using Google Drive.

Why do so many people prefer OneDrive to Google Drive?

Because backing up to GoogleDrive is like backing up to NSADrive.

This is a good reminder that any sort of file should be backed up both locally and in the cloud, and preferably on two different cloud services.

Okay, this is huge. How do you not test something like this? My $.02: iCloud Drive should not have been released yet. It should have been an update to iOS once Yosemite became available.

On the contrary, releasing it now at least means that the bug is discovered before even MORE people could be impacted. There's no guarantee they would have caught this before it went live. Seems that this particular scenario wasn't one that came up for the engineers.

That explains how all my documents got erased. I thought it was because I was using the beta version of iOS 8
We all are...
Actually entering that folder just runs a script that goes to iCloud drive. Try access it from Terminal.
Can TimeMachine see it? Script or not doesn't matter if automated backup triggers the script.
The cloud can refer to any networked storage. I back up my documents to an offsite server with is no different than using apple's servers. Local storage would offer no protection in an event of a fire or theft (theives are likely to take my external ssd when they take my macs).

The cloud is not something to be afraid off or distrust. Just maybe stay away from apple's storage solutions until they get it right. :p
The cloud is something to be afraid of and distrust. There are so many reasons to hate the stupid cloud. Cloud solutions have failed under every other name, how does making it sound whispy make it more reliable and safe?
If I owned Apple shares, I think I would be selling quite a few around now, just like Tim and the rest of the board did before all these stuff ups.
I'll sell when I see someone ready to replace Apple. They've stumbled hard here, no doubt, but there's no one else to replace them yet-- which is a sad commentary in the industry, frankly...

Which means it sucks almost 4 days a year.

Forstall is like a good tax accountant. You don't realize the value until he is gone and the Dear Taxpayer letters start to arrive.
Have you worked for him? I'd be really curious to hear more detail on how he avoided these kinds of messes.

If you can give specifics, this really could be a learning opportunity for a lot of development groups.

If this stuff was happening to Microsoft, everyone would be laughing their ass off and talking about how bad their company is.

Instead Microsoft is and has been increasing stability in cloud and enterprise solutions (with the exception of XBox live last month when it was down for a day or two)

"it just works"... oops... "it just erases".

sigh. jobs is rolling over in his grave right about now.
