I boight my macbook back in march. Its a white core2duo 2.0 it actially has 1 gig memory. So if my macbook can only support 3.3 gig will one of these chips and a 1 gig chip work?

Sorry if I am posting a newbie question here - but while I realize you needn't install matched pairs in the iMacs (I'm getting the aluminum 20" 2.4), I have read inconsistent stories about whether 1x1 is better than 1x2. One story I read suggested that 3 is better only if the computer actually needs to access the third GB of RAM - if it needs to use less than that, then the mismatched configuration will slow things down. So I woud appreciate any advice from the experts here!

So what are you trying to figure out? I can tell you 4GB is your absolute best option..

Other questions can be directed at Canada RAM.. He is a memory Guru!

Thanks. I don't want to buy 4GB at least now, so I am trying to figure out whether it makes more sense to add 1GB to the original 1GB configuration, or buy 2GB.

Depends. (2) 1GB sticks will perform better than a single 2GB stick.

However if you plan to step up to 4GB in the future, a single 2GB stick might be the smart choice for you.

Thanks. I think it is unlikely I would ever need to go up to 4GB - which is why I don't want to ditch the 1GB the system comes with.

MR Guide to Matched RAM on Intel Macs

Yes. Although your MacBook almost certainly came from Apple with 2 x 512 Mb SODIMMs.

Too bad for me. I guess I'll have to get those $25 Mushkin 1GB RAM at NCIX when they have stock.

Looks like that deal is gone?

Yes it is.

I've got some PQI memory for sale if interested. :) It's not quite as good of a deal but I decided to pass it to some MR members since I hopped on board this crucial deal.

You can find it in my sig if you are interested.

Both my sticks of RAM have shipped! Yippee!

$99 for 4GB of crucial is INSANE! :D

Damn, i guess i'll just have to get this deal from OWC for $150. Not too bad, as it goes for $200 elsewhere.

damn you all! I missed it:rolleyes:

If I buy a MBP and install 2x2gb of RAM, can I use the old 2 GB of RAM to put into my MB, bumping that up to 3 gb? or would that not work?
