Can I hope about Mac Pro update at August 7th

Regardless of negligible performance increase (which I would doubt considering they felt it necessary to drop eight cores in), the price allows for them to do update. They should, to be nice to the consumer. Doesn't mean they will of course.

After my recent mac pro purchase there are very few things that would make me jealous today.

  1. Blu-ray burner
  2. 8-core standard
  3. Price drop

Without all three... I really won't mind. I've been stress testing this 2.66/6GB and still haven't found the ceiling yet. So we'll see... but I really doubt that the pro lineup gets anything this afternoon, let alone my wish list.

I'm just hoping for super portable and only because I need something new to lust over.

You can put in your own Blu-Ray drive.
There is no way in he!l that Apple will drop Mac Pro prices. That is not Apple, no worry there.
All 8-core standard is possible. Good news for you...I doubt it will happen today.

I can also put in my own 4core to get an octo.. it's just not affordable at this point.

So I guess I have no worries.

:p

With Steve saying it's about iMacs today, doesn't seem like we're gonna get it, unless it's a "one more thing" thing.

I know there are a lot of disappointed people on the forum today.
But there wasn't much Apple could do. Intel didn't have anything for them.
Let's hope for an early arrival of Harpertown.

By the way, did you see the two new video cards for the iMac? HD 2400 XT and HD 2600 Pro.
If anyone thought the new iMac would be a serious gaming machine, they've got to be extremely disappointed.

Two new ATI cards. Really makes me believe the next Mac Pro card will be the HD 2900 XT.

Who knows - maybe a silent update to the Pro's when the store is back up - just nothing to show off...keeping fingers crossed.

Utter disappointment. And yeah, ATI 2400 and 2600 in the new iMacs??? Those two cards were slaughtered in the reviews. Unbelievable.

** I wish I was on hand for their "Q&A" session they're having right now. I would've asked them about the video cards.

Looks like someone asked about the mini & they said they were refreshing it. Hmm.............

1 year old today

So I guess, the Mac Pro is 1 year old and nothing new. hmmmmmmmmmm. I know there is nothing much to add, but they could have given us a sneak peak at whats to come.

They mentioned the mini was refreshed when asked in the Q&A, but no one is asking the question we all want to know about the pro...

disappointing

this is indeed disappointing, but i can take solace in the fact that i'll buy today; with or without an update.

it's been too long of a wait - and I can always sell/upgrade when they finally decide to update.

bummer.

Are these new ATI cards better than the 7300 GT? Are they even better than the 1900 XT?

(speaking of Radeon 2600 HD)

No. They suck. HARD.

They are OGL 2.0 and DX10 compliant though, so they're better in that way than the mac pro's offerings.

The HD2600XT is a passable midrange card for around $100 nowadays for a gamer. Anything less and you're just wasting money.

store is up and no update for Mac Pro. The reporters were stupid that they didn't ask about the MP.

But I'm glad they asked about appletv and AMD processors (sarcasm)

So it says new on the Mini, but the MP has no new sticker on it, can't even get to it because the store is getting slammed.
