I'd like to see the vote button used more productively.

For example, when coming across a thread like this one with 300-odd posts, it'd be nice to be able to select to 10 top-rated posts so you can get a quick gist of the thread (and hopefully weed out all the "+1" rubbish).

Sadly, with a forum full of corporate fanatics, the positive rated posts aren't always the 'best' posts, IMO. I might actually prefer seeing the most negative votes in many threads as they are the POV I'd be more likely to agree with, this one included.

There is no team. You act as if we're organized or something. lolz

You have quite the imagination.

I also don't care what you think about anything, and I don't want your respect. Yay internets!

That's pretty hilarious. Next he'll be saying we have secret meetings with hoods.

Anyway, I hope you didn't wake him up, so he can now resume posting blah, blah, blah.

The voting system test is still ongoing.

I have some tweaks to make before we can see how it's performing. As there is no major consequence for getting negative votes, I don't think that people seem to object too much.

We may try the Like-only system, but still working on it...

Might as well ask if this is any closer to being resolved.

If you follow arn's tweets, he's into Touch Arcade these days. They got a new app in the last month or so and are working on a redesign.

No you do a good enough job making yourself appear hypocritical without my help.

It has been resolved. You lost the vote. Get over it.

Better yet, why don't you all protest it by leaving the forums forever? ;)

Well, I've been keeping busy with MacRumors pre-WWDC stuff too. More a factor is probably that we have lost a programmer for a while, so the remaining programmer (who was a new hire) has had to fill other tasks and catch up, so I haven't wanted to distract him with a new (even relatively small) task.

Not criticizing. Just pointing out you love the game nerds more than us. ;)

^^^ Right. I use Tapatalk on the iPad, but I would say my MR time is 75% on computer and 25% on iPad with Tapatalk. So using Tapatalk exclusively is not a solution.

Two words. Private Talk. ;)

Get used to it. There are many demis who have said they won't be renewing when their subscriptions expire.

Yuppers.

-aggie- was kind enough to point me to a post that describes how to remove the vote buttons. It's a custom filter for AdBlock for Chrome. Here's the post:

The voting system here is useless. Just add this filter to Adblock Plus (if you're not using an ad blocker, why the !#$% not?):
Code:
forums.macrumors.com##SPAN[id*="post_rate_"]
...which results in this:

Done and done. Thanks -aggie- and SGMD1!

It also works in Safari for those that are interested. I have been using it for a few months now and the only time I see the voting is when browsing from the iPad.

I have a far more basic solution.....I have sort of trained my eyes not to look at the buttons at all...I take no notice of them at all, but this might be useful!

That's what I do, too. And you're right, it's a simple solution. :p

I don't have any strong feelings about the buttons at all anyway, but since I'm not going to judge what I think about a post based on up-and-down buttons, I really just don't even notice the numbers most of the time.

Wow! I never thought of this!! All we have to do is ignore the buttons. Problem solved.

Down voting growth?

Hi everyone,

I've been noticing a trend where "almost" any comment is getting down votes. This got aggravated by ongoing war between IOS and Android. I don't get it...

Cheers,
Joe

Edit: Seems like my post comes 1 year or so later... :)

If I were you, I'd use my kung-fu grip to stem the problem.

Another vote against voting buttons. :D

@arnoldkim: it still kills me that digg's last revision removed the "digg" button in favor of Up and Down votes. the site's called digg!!!
