For those who don't want to wait, look at Surely's signature.

I am blissfully vote buttons-free. Yes, the side-effect is that I now no longer see ads, but that's a price arn pays, not me :D

I say remove the down votes .... look at the poll results -- put together REMOVE and LIKE BUTTON ONLY and you get a clear winner.

I was looking for this thread. Good idea! From the pool, though, it seems there are allot of vote-hunters. The only step craziest than this, is to create some kind of MMO leveling based on voting. :D

Now this is a hilarious idea. We could have "healers" who just upvote flagging posts, "tanks" who post to draw aggro, and "DPSs" who spam down votes.
:D

I'm only seeing an up vote button now.

Solid move.

Lurking and reading as I often tend to do these days, the most irritating thing about the down votes is that discussion of being downvoted would sometimes become a running sub-topic of the thread. It would really get under many people's skins.

Making it impossible to uprate your own posts would also be an additional improvement, if this feature is to have any integrity at all.

Thank you! I'd be voting against bringing it back. It was severely abused.

Yeah... I think all it really accomplishes is hurt feelings. But I know I'm going to wish I could downvote things.

Sidenote: it's going to take a while to get used to seeing just the up button. It looks odd. For a while I thought my work computer/internet was just being crappy again and not showing the down.

I've always just assumed any post with +1 was from the poster and, if it's more than that, then others agreed with them.

With people only being allowed to vote once, I don't think it matters too much in a large scale.

I predict a "Bring Back the Down Button!" poll in a few days. :)

arn

At first it was occasionally satisfying, and in places like reddit a downvote can be useful but here it just bred animosity through misuse. Removing it was a good move, Arn.

while i'm not a fan of the voting buttons, i think up only is much better than both. its like what your mother always said: 'if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all' motto.

If we all followed that advice, the world would be one hellishly scary place.
