I was the 7th in line at the store I went to. They had 6 phones in stock. The store down the street.. they got 3 phones. I'm in Ottawa.

You can't get the 6GB plan on the website. But you can over the phone, however their lines are so busy they basically just hung up on me.

Hopefully things calm down later today. I don't mind waiting to have my phones shipped out to me.. I just want that data plan before it's gone.

the data plan wont be gone until august so you'll be fine...

Picked up the 16GB Black iPhone in Fredericton (I was the first in line :) )

They tried really hard to sell me one of the iPhone plans. Here is what I got.

16GB iPhone
MY5 20 (available in Atlantic Canada -- I think it's $25 elsewhere)
$30 6GB Data plan
$15 iPhone Value Plan (Comes with Visual Voicemail included)

They did charge me a $50 fee for not using one of the iPhone plans. I think that if you get a more expensive voice plan (i.e. $35 or more) you do not have to pay the $50 fee (I am not positive about that but the regional rep said that this was the case).

GPS Works GREAT!!
Call quality is excellent.

I'm gonna sync with iTunes and try some of the apps!!!

Cheers.

Where is the voice plan in there?

I got in line this morning around 8:30am for a store that opened at 9am. Luckily it is a small new Roger so there were only 5 people in front of me. Doors opened at 9am, they let 4 people in. Almost 1.5 hours later the first person walked out with an Activated but non unBricked iPhone. I got in next as two people in the store were waiting left. I get in there and they are still having problems accessing the Rogers internal sites..... constant 500 errors. These people were upgrading users, so they asked if anyone was a new customer and I was the only one. So I get up there.... and start to wait. After another 1.5 hours I walkout with my new 8Gb iPhone that was activated but not unBricked. Not bad for 3.5 hours of total waiting. I feel bad for the guy still waiting on his upgrade that had been there for over 6 hours.

Came to work and have been trying to access the iTunes store since.... no luck but at least I have mine. :D

Today, the Rogers rep told us that if we take the 6Gb plan, we will not have access to the Wifi illimited at home... Is this true?

edit: He told us that even if we use wifi at home on our own router, we will be using the 6Gb of data... weird...

I think he is full of crap. He is either misinformed, an idiot or lying to you to try to get you to sign one of the iPhone plans. From what has been posted around various forums, I think they get crazy high commission if you sign up for an iPhone plan and zero commission if you get anything else.

If it was an honest mistake, it could be that he is confusing no free access to Rogers HotSpots with generic Wifi access.

Will i have visual voice mail, with a 30$ plan and the 6Gb and the 15$ add on? cause they told us that visual voice mail, is only avaible on the 4 "iPhone plans"

Thanks!
JB

If you go to post #407 in this thread, iPedro said he got his iPhone with the $30/6GB data pack and was told he could add the $15 or $25 iPhone 'value' pack to get VVM. I am finding from all the reports I have read from people, that is really going to come down to whom you speak to.

so it was a unactivated iphone?

My iPhone IS activated just not unbricked. Just waiting like everyone else for iTunes servers.

As for VVM, I went with a voice plan and 6GB for $30, I had to get the $15 Value pak to get VVM. I am looking at my Rogers bill and it lists VVM beside the $15 iPhone value pak.

********. It makes no sense. Fido was telling us the same, you can only use the Wifi on Fido hotspots, which there are none in Quebec and we took the demo down the mall to a free hotspot and it connected fine. I don't know where people got this information at our store, the manager was saying this.

Maybe the uppers were trying to dissuade many at the last whim. I mean I know there was like 20 people freaking out at our store before we were alleviated.

Same, same. Have it sitting in front of me bricked. I got the $30 Fido Unlimited Fido to Fido and Rogers plan with the $30 6GB and $15 iPhone Value Pack specifically designated with VVM. So $75 before tax and fees or around $92 with everything. I'm quite happy because I thought I would have to pay $8 on top of that and $50 cause the plan was $30 and less. But got the phone for $200.

Plus fro $75 check what I got in comparison, 200 Weekday Minutes compared to 300 on the iPhone plan, 100 Texts compared to 2500 that I got, both have VVM, but I got Call ID/Name ID/ Who Called, which the $75 plan doesnt have plus I have 6GB compared to 750MB. So all in all I"M HAPPY! To pay less than $100 a month for a virtually unlimited plan, I mean honestly between 8 and 7, I can only call Telus and Bell People for 200 minutes in a month, but honestly thats MY ONLY RESTRICTION. Otherwise I have all the add-ons, basically unlimited data, unlimited otherwise voice, and practically unlimited texts (2500). I'm a very happy camper. Plus per second billing and evening starting at 7. If I find I need more minutes can just switch it to start at 5!

I am pretty sure, the more I hear this is happening, that it isn't a honest mistake. For how common it seems, I think they are saying it to try and scare people into getting the iPhone plans.

I have finally activated my phone, and can sync all my contact, but I have no service. I can't make calls, get on the rogers network or anything.

I was able to unBrick mine about 30 mins ago. Just kept clicking Music then iPhone and it FINALLY went. Sync'n music as I type.

My first iPod.... my first Apple product and obviously my first iPhone.

No Visual Voicemail without an iPhone plan???

That's incredibly retardulous!!

Good thing I don't care that much about VVM... lol

Umm... you can get it for $8 or with an iPhone Value Package for $15 including Call Display, Name Display, Who Called, 2500 texts, and some other random useless things. Atleast this is the case from Fido, thats what I did, just got a voice and data plan plus $15 value package. $75.

Oh and I think the only place left with iPhones in Montreal is the Eaton Centre Fido, they had like 50 8GB and aren't sending people home so its like 2 people an hour leaving. So they might still have some 2morrow. :p

But I got a magical text message from Fido letting me know my number got ported from Rogers that unbricked my cell even though it didnt work through iTunes. Still need to activate it though to sync, but I'm okay for now cause I have .Me and can live without music and videos for a bit.

This is what I did. Unfortunately, when I went (11:45 AM Mountain) Their system was down so we had to resort to a paper contract. I'm still waiting for them to process it before I can go pick up my iPhone.... I just hope they can get it done before I leave work haha.

But it is possible to get VVM by paying the $8 per month or by getting the $15/$20 bundles.

Three ways to get VVM:
1) iPhone plans (no one got these, did they?)
2) Part of the $15 iPhone 3G Visual Voicemail Value pack
3) On it's own for $8

Edit: sorry, just realized you were stating that and not asking it.

No worries.. You made it clearer and have done so in the most concise way I have seen thus far. :)

At 7:00AM I was 15th in the lineup at Rogers store on Robson and Seymour in Vancouver. The first group of 6 was allowed into the store at 9:00AM. We waited and waited and waited and nothing seemed to be happening. Rogers store staff was telling us that servers were down. They then told us that eveything would be up at 10:15 and that each customer should take about `5 minutes. At 11:00 no one had been signed up yet, so they came out and said that anyone that was in line could register and they would hold a phone for that person and call them when they were ready to process. They only had 6 of the 16gb phones, so those were gone with the first group of 6 that went in.

One would think that both Apple and Rogers would anticipate the heavy server traffic and would prepare accordingly. So, now I am waiting for my call :(

I come from a city of 48,000 (welland,Ontario) we had just under 100 phones and there were maybe twelve of us there.
