At 7:00AM I was 15th in the lineup at Rogers store on Robson and Seymour in Vancouver. The first group of 6 was allowed into the store at 9:00AM. We waited and waited and waited and nothing seemed to be happening. Rogers store staff was telling us that servers were down. They then told us that eveything would be up at 10:15 and that each customer should take about `5 minutes. At 11:00 no one had been signed up yet, so they came out and said that anyone that was in line could register and they would hold a phone for that person and call them when they were ready to process. They only had 6 of the 16gb phones, so those were gone with the first group of 6 that went in.

One would think that both Apple and Rogers would anticipate the heavy server traffic and would prepare accordingly. So, now I am waiting for my call :(

I know what it feels like... I've been sitting in my office since noon just waiting... hoping that they'll get it done before I head home for the weekend. I'm going out of town so if they don't, I won't be able to get it till monday... :(

Just got home from the Brooklyn (Whitby, Ontario) store and they had 16 gig iPhones but refused to sell me one because I was upgrading. They said that Rogers wasn't letting them phone in upgrades.

So Rogers is DISCRIMINATING against current customers. Way to go!

It's Rogers, what do you expect? To me there the worst carrier in Canada.

No Visual Voicemail without an iPhone plan???

That's incredibly retardulous!!

Good thing I don't care that much about VVM... lol

I have choosen the 6gb plan, with the 15$ value pack, and i don't have the Visual voice mail... or i don't know how to activate it....

Well, like many of you, yesterday was a letdown. I won't say it was a "big" letdown because after the pricing fiasco, there wasn't much further down for Rogers to go, IMO.

I went to three stores yesterday, one of which was full of people sitting on the floor waiting for their activations to go through. (Good luck.) The store from which I'd received a message a couple of weeks ago saying that there would be plenty of stock and they didn't expect any shortages in fact had received only 14 phones. That was the store at the ROGERS CENTRE, people!

So this morning I called Rogers and waited patiently on hold for 1-1/2 hours (thank goodness for unlimited weekend calling). Then I ordered my iPhone, which--God willing--will be delivered next Wednesday before I leave town for 10 days on Thursday. I didn't want to change my plan now and pay for something I can't use yet, so I have to call back and change my plan when the phone arrives. When I do, I will be getting the $30 promotional data plan, the $15 VVM pack, and I will be keeping my current $20 200 weekday/unlimited evenings & weekends voice plan (I am never giving that up!). Total per month: $65. Plus the usual bogus fees and taxes, of course.

On Monday I have to call for my tracking number. UPS, please don't fail me now! :)

if you got the regular $15 value pack, it doesn't have VVM. You need to switch that to the $15 "iPhone 3G Visual Voicemail value package". For Rogers, anyway. Or get the $8 VVM option on it's own, but I think you are better off with the "iPhone 3G Visual Voicemail value package" if you want texts, call display, etc anyway.

Went to 4 stores in Richmond, BC yesterday with my friend.

Richmond centre had a 25 person lineup, and nothing was moving after half and hour. Went over to Landsdowne, they had phones, no real lineup, but of course no 16gb phones.

Went to aberdeen, 1st rogers store sold out of the 6 phones, 2nd store had 16gb's. Friend got her's a a new customer. Yay! I had the last 16gb phone, some sort of policy of new customers first on launch didn't allow me to grab the phone. Bummer.

I just called 611 and ordered a 16gb, kept my same plan, got a 5pm start time thrown in for free. And my HUP price is $329-$50.

if you dont' need it in your hand right away, just call. But seems like alot of 8gbs left.

Just call 611, they'll upgrade you. Some stupid retail store launch policy regarding upgrading customers with existing data plans.

How about doing an upgrade to the iPhone on my existing line?

The same $50 bill credit is available when a customer gets an iPhone via the HUP program, as long as their price plan has an MSF of more than $30 (basically $35 or more) and is setup on a minimum 3yr term. Unlike all other phones in the HUP program - there is no mail in rebate involved

So, if the cx's MSF is $35 or more and they resign a 3yr commitment, the HUP pricing will be as follows:

8GB
HUP Tier 1: 349+35Admin +tax - 50 bill credit
HUP Tier 2: 324+35Admin +tax - 50 bill credit
HUP Tier 3: 249+35Admin +tax - 50 bill credit
HUP Tier 4: 249+NOAdmin +tax - 50 bill credit
HUP Tier 5: 224+NOAdmin +tax - 50 bill credit

16GB
HUP Tier 1: 449+35Admin +tax - 50 bill credit
HUP Tier 2: 424+35Admin +tax - 50 bill credit
HUP Tier 3: 349+35Admin +tax - 50 bill credit
HUP Tier 4: 349+NOAdmin +tax - 50 bill credit
HUP Tier 5: 324+NOAdmin +tax - 50 bill credit

*if you don't meet promotional requirements prior to upgrading to the iPhone - you will not get the the $50 bill credit

Have any of you heard of this? can anyone confirm things.

Yes, this is true, find out what tier your in *611, and do a HUP. Don't need to sign a new 3 year term.

amazing. i can continue my current contract. and im not getting the data plan so i will make sure they dont extend my contract. definitely calling this week.

So do I understand this correctly, You can get an iPhone without a new contract? How much did you guys pay for the actual phone? I was told yesterday that I was a tier 1.

I am hoping they were wrong. I have read on these forums and others that this is incorrect, that some signed up with much cheaper voice plans.

If your voice plan is <= $30, they will charge you $50 more for the phone (at least that is what Fido is doing, I assume that Rogers is doing the same).

If you start with a plan over $30 and switch to one under within the 3 year contract, they will bill you the $50.

i did some searches but nothing of the like turned up, if there is something I am sorry i just could not find it, now all of us Canadians that have 1st gen iPhones, how are we going to upgrade to 2.0? if we try to do it trhu itunes is it gogin to brick our phones (being 1st gen iphones in Canada it is pretty obvious they were unlocked at one point) or are we going to have to wait for iLiberty, ijailbreak or something like that? any guesses?

Ok, that sounds right. But really, they should be sued for false advertising. They advertised $199/$299 with a 3 year contract. But at launch they qualify that and increase the cost for low rate subs. That is just wrong.

Fido rep said voice minimum is 35$

i cant find the post but someone did the math.
it works out to around 60-70 with 200 minutes, all the fees and the 30$ data plan.

its not as cheap as ppl think. and if ur data plan is under 35$ u have to pay an extra 50$ on ur 1st bill.

I don't think it's true, the whole "if your plan is sub $30 they will charge you more for the phone" thing.

I signed up as a new customer yesterday, got the $25 My 5 plan and added the $11 package for call display, voicemail, text and I only had to pay $299 for my phone. I am with Rogers.

Unless of course if you add the $25 plan with the $11 options I picked. I don't think that's what people are talking about though.
