There is one fixed price for the iPhone. The price won't flucuate because it will either be a 3 year or 2 year contract that they offer. I'm asking which one they'll be offering. ATT is doing a 2 year.

As far as I understand the price is set for the 3 year contract... so you could pay more for a 2 year contract...

Not sure if this link will work... (Rogers Website

When you configure the Blackberry Pearl for a 3 year contract it is $49.99 ... but when you change the options to a 2 year contract the price jumps to 424.99.

I imagine the same thing will happen with the iPhone

I think actually it specifically says $299 or $199 depending on model WITH 3 yr contarct.. so i wouldnt be surprised if it is $500 for the phone and 2 yrs.. problem of course atm is .. who to you switch to other than rogers/fido? Thats kind of a leap of faith isnt it to think another provider will have the infurstructure and be cheaper.. in under 3 yrs.

For most smart phones you generally have 2 plans that go together...

A "data" plan is the part of the plan that covers all the network data usage..

a "voice" plan covers all of your calling.

You would generally be able to mix and match these... but we will have to wait and see for the official word.

Oh thanks :p

I don't want a huge bill, maybe like $60 a month with all taxes, is that possible? and with unlimited text?

In Canada... with our current plans? LOL

That's the question we are all waiting on Rogers for... I imagine your going to spend more than that... but unless anyone here is in the Rogers War room and wants to break their confidentiality agreement.... I doubt we will find out soon

With the amount of money that Bell and Telus are putting into their CDMA networks... I would highly doubt them suddenly creating a GSM network ... and implementing it in under 3 years.

If you are wanting to hold out for another carrier... your biggest hope would be that apple would create a CDMA version of the iPhone... again... I do not think that will be likely.

I just hope i can get it without data.

Currently Rogers does NOT require other smartphone users to get a data plan...

If I were Rogers I would allow users to go without a Data plan... and screw them on the overages when the decide to try an online feature. Then when they get their bill, and get pissed off... they will buy your data plan.

i think plans will start at $69.99 +

so $39.99 for voice
and $30 for data (unlimitted like bell/telus)
that would so so awsome.
better than whati pay on telus.
100$ for 150 min
unlim evenings and wkends
unlimited text
and 4MB!!!! of EDGE data which takes like 10 minutes to load MR.

Do you guys not get it?

There's going to be one set price for the iPhone. No buy it on a 2 year and get charged more. You either pay the $199/299 and get the 3 year contract or dont get it at all. It's not like a conventional phone because Apple has arranged deals.

First Store - As soon as the word iPhone was said, he immediatly said he had no information.

Second Store - Said to try phoning next week

Third Store - Said to check a few weeks before release but said they won't be getting it until the END of July, with a revised and effecient plan.

I sort of feel "lucky" but not really...my Telus contract is expiring in 2 weeks, just in time for iPhone! My current plan sucks, but when I called them earlier and told them I wanted to cancel, we were talking about it. She asked me what I would buy next and I told her iPhone, then she proceeded to tell me all the bad things about the iPhone i.e. the HTC touch has a removable battery, expandable memory, you can edit office documents, and it's available legally in Canada (I'm like um...go to apple.ca....). Anyways, I told her she was listing features, and not benefits, and that I probably wanted to cancel. She then told me to get me to stay, she's pull up an old christmas promotion and give it to me now : she said $15 extra for UNLIMITED data. I thought that was pretty good - I was trying to find out if there were strings attached i.e. I asked her if I could really surf the web anywhere, check my e-mail go to ANY websites, etc., and she said yes. That's a pretty good deal, but then again I don't want a crappy HTC touch!

I'm sure Rogers and Apple have worked something out that lets users take advantage of the phone for a reasonable price. I'd pay $30 extra for unlimited data, and wouldn't be too angry about it. But I don't think they'll make it that low...we'll see soon I guess.

I hope so and thanks for the link. That's great news for us Canadians, finally an unlimited data plan for $30/month. Just awesome!

It's too bad Rogers is going to stick it to us with the iPhone and likely charge us nothing close to $20 for unlimited data, probably more. They currently charge $100/month for 1gb.

so

$40 for voice (minutes)
$10 for voicemail/call display (likely...they already charge for that now)
$30 for unlimited Data (3G...prob max of like 5Gb..but basically unlimited)
------
$79.99 for that ^
$69.99 for without voicemail/call display

Additional

$10 2500 SMS (everything....$89.99)

I love how everyones so optimistic. We are talking about the company that likes to make a profit of 200% on every feature and likes to charge for everything. Fido is relatively small compared to Rogers, so remember they'll tkae full advantage of that by overpricing the plans. If it's $70 in the US, expect it to $100+ in Canada.

Good News for Data

BELL has a new Unlimitted Data plan for its BB and WM only $30 dollars

Thus..rogers will have to do $30 dollars or less

Thank goodness for Telus and Bell for having this plan.

There's two things:
1) Rogers will price-match or even drop lower for 'iPhone' customers.
2) Rogers will charge more due to 'iPhone' customers

Of course I hope it's #1, but I could see #2 happening.

Also, I can see Apple playing a large role. If Rogers is too expensive not enough people will buy plans and then the entire iPhone experience will be lost. An iPhone without internet is an iPod Touch.

I understand that apple has arranged the details... Although I am not convinced that the length of the contract is one of the details they have set in stone

Well said, and I agree. If they don't offer competitive prices, people won't buy it and it will defeat Apple's "more affordable" plan. I'm sure we'll see something reasonable like in Europe's plans and the US's.

since you seem to have a good source you should make all your post size 5 and in bright bold red. hahah;)

I would just like to know...what about present roger customers?? Will we be able to get an iPhone on July 11 ? And how much? Also would be nice to know if Apple Canada plans on carrying it on there site.

Common sense would dictate that Rogers would want to get this phone into as many hands as possible. However, that doesn't work here. They have analysts that sit in cubicles somewhere who have never talked to a customer and just look at the spreadsheet to calculate the maximum profit. I have no problem with a company seeking to maximize profit, but not when they are control over a 3rd of the market and the only network available for that product.

However they may be in for a surprise. The early adopters have already purchased the iphone (as I have) These companies depend on the early adopters willing to pay high prices to get a product. However, that is no longer there. So, in my case, if Rogers offers a Data Plan that is too expensive, that means a lot over the $30 for unlimited data that AT&T offers, and I suspect they will, I will just stick with my existing iPhone, thank you very much. So they have to decide, do they get an additional $299 or so from an existing customer for the phone and then another $360-400 a year from me or none of that.
