Ditto. Phone may be in my left hand, but my CCW is going to come out before you turn around with my phone in hand and in the end, I was in fear for my life. I don't care about the life of a thug, so yes, I would shoot and I was confident I saw a weapon as he told me to hand my phone over or die.
in your CCW class they didn't teach you to "never shoot to wound?" Always shoot to kill. Head and chest. Always.
If you have to pull your weapon to stop an attack, the best way to STOP an attack is aim for center mass on your intended target. Shooting to wound gets you nowhere and further endangers bystanders because the odds of missing increase exponentially.
Same goes for a head shot. A person's first reaction to seeing a weapon drawn on them is to duck, meaning you're going to miss high, again, endangering others.
Load your pistol with hollow-points to help avoid over-penetration, aim for center mass, and do not stop shooting until the threat has been stopped. If the threat has been stopped with one non-life-threatening shot that hits the abdomen, great. If you have to fire several times to stop the threat and the end result is the attacker's death, so be it.

The ONE time I let my guard down was when I was living in SF on Nob Hill and was walking to the supermarket at night.
I let my guard down and was REALLY into the music I was listening to, and somebody came up and hit me over the head with a bottle, and then tugged violently at my backpack.
I guess they got nervous when I didn't just drop to the ground after that major strike, and they ran off without my backpack. I was gushing blood all over and ran the several blocks to the nearest hospital. 14 stitches behind my ear...
By the way, this was pre-Iphone days. This is nothing new. It's ALWAYS good to have your guard up. I learned my lesson.

At the original iphone launch, I was trailed out of the mall where I purchased the phone in MD (DC Suberbs). I turned around and made direct eye contact with them. And gave them an angry stare. They turned around and scuttled the other way. My guess is when they got closer they noticed my 6'8" 280 lb stature perfectly suited for massive a$$ kickage they thought twice. Didn't have a piece on me though. Bad gun laws in MD.
I live in my mom's basement...with the Internet, I never need to go outside.

1. I don't make it a point to flash my iPhone around in public. I use it on a regular basis, but I don't try to draw attention to it like some others I've seen.
2. I always make sure my iPhone is securely in place when I put it away after use. (i.e. I won't leave it laying on the seat of a taxi or some other crap I've heard of.
3. I live in a concealed carry state and yes, it does make people think just a little bit more (but not too much).
4. I've never been face to face with someone I thought could take something from me and get very far away. I don't think I'd kill someone, but I absolutely, without even blinking an eye, would pick a limb and make sure they couldn't make use of it for the remainder of their life.
I'm honestly not trying to be dramatic, that's just the simple equation. Take something of mine and and I'll ensure you have a life-long reminder not to do it again.

I think there's a lot of exaggeration going here... But you better believe that I will shoot and kill someone "should the situation dictate". You decide the value of your life and that of of your loved ones. If the person's life who is trying to rape/kill you or your family is worth more than your own or your families then let them do so. Not here.

No you're absolutely right. All criminals deserve to be shot and killed. Especially thieves. Well, unless they are white kids who shoplift a little. Then they should be grounded. But otherwise, you're correct. Kill every purse/phone snatcher without question. Yeah. Those are fantastic morals. I don't even know what I was thinking. Sorry. Carry on with your life.
If people started getting shot of mugging/robbing people...they would think twice about it. I dont care if they are white/black/purple. Why are you trying to turn this into a race thing?
