my Adapter is broke.
dont recognize USB anymore:(

Sorry to hear that. Did you try contacting Carlinkit Support via Whatsapp? Maybe they can help?
I'll say this--they need to make their firmware flashing process more robust. With a proper bootloader you should almost always be able to recover from a flashing mishap.

I suppose they know that USB flashing can be a problem, which is why they've removed the easy ability to find the firmware files on their web site. But still, in this day and age there is no excuse for having a device that is so easy to brick permanently.

Something new with 2020.06.17. When my phone connects to the adapter, CarPlay does not automatically take over my Pioneer HU. Instead I stay at my sources screen until I press the CarPlay icon.

Hmmmm... I can see how that would be helpful for some (who want to use FM or satellite radio and need the native interface to change channels etc.) but for my purposes I like that it auto-connects to the CarPlay interface when it boots up. I hope they will find a way to make that an option for folks. But I will definitely hold off on the 6.17 update.

I know i am really late to the party but hoping to get some help. I have been using car2play on my Pioneer and never had issues. Now on my 2016 Silverado i just purchased i am running in to this 5 minute issue that was previously discussed on some previous pages. Is there a fix at this time or do i wait for an upcoming firmware fix? If a fix was previously posted i did not find it. Thanks for any help. Carl

Actually, the not switching over to CarPlay seems more like it is a bug, since it only sometimes happens.

GM had the same issue with the mylink/intellilink/cue radios from 2009-2016 (depending on the vehicle) and allowing customers to do their own software updates. They ended up pulling the files and relevant links from their webpages, presumably because people were bricking their units.

Mine is saying 3-18 firmware today after saying 6-6 yesterday.

This device is weird...

Got this response from carlinkit about the firmware not taking:

“Hi, friend, sorry for the trouble, please do not upgrade it now, please wait few days more, the official stable version is not released yet. The firmware has been done, but we are still testing it and will be releasing it within few days. Please try it again later, thanks!”

Found an interesting trick related to when one gets a rare blank/black screen. I have always felt it was Apple fault (sort for not sending data). Any way I decided instead of unplugging, I invoked Siri. I said hey Siri call X and presto the screen was no longer blank. I suppose the mic button on steering wheel might have worked too. I stumbled across this because I actually wanted to make a call.

Ive tried this on my car and the screen does indeed pop back up when I activate Siri.

The problem is the screen goes black again after Siri is done.

I know they said not to update, but a new build was released today (link). Since I do have 1 of each type units, I'll still give it a shot on my guinea pig CP2Air and see what happens.

update - Still behaves the same.

I also updated my Carlinkit 2.0 USBc to 6-19-20 but shuttering still happens after about 5 minutes of music play on both my 2017 GMC work truck and my 2018 GMC personal truck. But my other dongle CarPlay2air On 3-6-20 works great on both trucks. Man I wish I could downgrade the firmware to 3-6-20 on the USB c unit...

Quale versione del software è? Nonostante ciò, si disconnette sempre dopo 1 minuto, qualsiasi applicazione che uso. Ora lo butto nella spazzatura!

After reading through much of this thread, let’s see if I’ve got this straight: the Cplay2air dongle is just a rebranded Carlinkit? Are they truly the same product, even though the Carlinkit is significantly cheaper to buy? Also, what might work best in my 2020 Lexus RX350, which has built-in, but wired, Apple AirPlay? Keep in mind this is primarily my wife’s car, so if it’s not pretty foolproof, it’s probably not worth it
Kyle76, got a 2018 NX here, with Lexus OEM firmware upgrade to add CarPlay. Without being aware of the fact that CarPlay2Air was a rebranded Carlinkit back then, I bought the CarPlay2Air dongle last March and it‘s working almost perfectly in my Lexus. The only minor issue I have is like everybody else, it’s related to 2-3 seconds lag when changing tracks (both from trackpad or steering wheel) and sometimes the lag shows up on phone calls too, neither are deal breaker for me. I‘m holding on updating to the latest firmware seeing people’s issues with it, so I’m still on the January firmware. Although it’s working in the Lexus, it refused to work in my wife’s Nissan Murano, Nissan’s vehicle’s are not supported (for now at least). Like others said, if you buy, buy from Amazon or eBay with their easy to return policy if needed.

I checked today OTA and found a new firmware 2020.06.17.0549. Normally I use carlinkit in my Golf7 fl without any problems. Now I use it in my new Renault ZOE ZE50 and with the new firmmware all problems with 2020.01.22 have gone- no sound stuttering, steeringwheel buttons work and spotify as well. So far I am happy with the new firmware.

Hi, today had no luck with firmware OTA update on my carplay2air adapter. Previously had the January Firmware. Updates to that a lot of times via OTA.
Today for the first time during CORONA-times an update was shown. Browser counted up to 100%, blue/red light was flashing, but then the reboot of adapter failed. inside the car only solid blue light.
When I put it now in a charger only the blue light is showing. Can I try to flash it with an usb-stick and latest firmware? There is no reset button....
I send a notice to the support... maybe they will find a solution.

Even my Linux Computer did not recognize the adapter as an iphone even compared to previously firmware versions....

Also had an OTA update for my CarPlay2Air adapter (original version), now on 17/06/2020 firmware. All working fine on VW Golf MK7.5 - it was fine on the March firmware, the only issues I had was the odd slight skip in audio (rare) and Siri cutting off their announcement at the very end.

Tested this firmware today and Siri issue seem to be resolved, not sure about the audio skip as it was rare so time will tell.

Also my OTA update did not run as smoothly as usual. After the update of the Carlinkit USB-C adapter the CarPlay screen of the headunit was black. After a reboot of the headunit and the adapter everything was OK. I also turned the iPhone completely off and on again.

Got my OTA update to 6-17 to work smoothly. No changes in performance though on my 2019 CR-V.

Sometimes it works. Sometimes it connects for a second and then disconnects saying it’s not compatible. Sometimes it connects but I get a black screen so I can’t do anything without Siri.

Putting it back in storage till the next update. Wouldn’t be shocked to see it bricked with iOS4 beta 1 on Monday.

I’m also considering retiring my car QI charger because the phone gets awfully hot when using it. Black material in the sun with no internal fan.

Just did OTA 06.17. Did not get the chance to do it via USB stick. Took for a quick spin GPS/Waze Navigation good. Music good. Looks like a keeper. Car=2020 Palisade.

Yeah I do not have experience with Aliexpress. I would tend toward Amazon or Ebay. I see some have USA stock so will ship faster and naturally they tend to take care of their customers. Don'y pay attention to the its for X car part. There only two models hard Wired and the newer USB-C model that is not hard wired. Good Luck.

my Adapter is broke.
dont recognize USB anymore:(
In the morning,I updated my adapter via my iPhone.
Then I saw "Update Failure" on my iPhone.
Now my car don't recognize the Adapter anymore.

Update version is 2020.06.17
Adapter is Carplay2Air

Is there anyone can help me?

I did update to 2020.06.17.0549 via USB manually. So far (tested less then 48 hours) this is for me best firmware released since I got CP2A adapter in March 2020.
Fixed all bugs discovered in 2020-01-22 and 2020-06-07 Fw. I didn’t upgrade to any of March released versions.
Used with Ford C-Max 2017

BR//S.

So is the 2020-06-17 an OTA, but there is a download of 2020-06-19 out from the website? Is that correct?

There was a download version from site that seemed to brick some, which was that?

Is 2020-06-19 safe to try via USB? Haven’t had mine ever work but wouldn’t mind a try with newer in case.

Good news. Can’t remember, you using the USBC device? I’m tempted because I’m the type that can’t leave well enough alone .

I’m using Carplay2Air which doesn’t have USB-C version. Only USB-A and upgrade passed smoothly. I didn’t even try OTA upgrade for this release but last upgrade 2020-06-07 wasn’t possible OTA.

Thanks. Been there and done that on the USB upgrade and bricked my last one. I’m gun shy. OTA or nothing got me.

Same problem as all Mazda owners here - problem with first connect, then after many tries if it connects it reboots MZD Connect randomly. And after all - disconnecting also cause rebooting MZD Connect. In two different Mazdas. Two different Carplay2Air. For now it's useless and probably I will return it (I'm testing it for 3 days now). Current version that I have is 2020.03.18.1455 and there is no update. Lag on UI is acceptable, but lag on phone calls is not.
Exact same issue here with CP2Air device & a Mazda 3 since the beginning. None of the firmware had any impact on it. The most stable was the 6th of March release so far. I'll give another go with the 6th of June release and see if there is any improvement.

Hardwired USB. Yeah was not having issues just wanted to try. It is not that the OTA is safer method of upgrade. It just that OTA upgrades are the ones they have the most confidence in for the most AV systems in the most cars. They do have one added advantage of not relying just on LEDs to know the upgrade is really complete. I always say to wait a few minutes after a usb based upgrade when the LEDs stop blinking to be sure.
