That’s Carlinkit not CarPlay2Air. But pretty disgusting. I posted such on that thread. That’s Facebook group led by Carlinkit is bizarre. There is absolutely no chance in hell we are going to have functioning devices after iOS 14. They can’t even release a friggin firmware. No way are they going to react in real-time like they said they would. They are trying to sell as many units as possible before they go silent and close up shop.

So I updated my carplay2air today and everything updated it said on my iPhone screen but when it rebooted nothing came back up. So I have tried unplugging it and plugging it back in and nothing. Only light I get is the solid blue light even after I unplug it and plug it back in just goes straight to solid blue without any red light or blinking either light just solid blue. Does anyone have any advice.

70-80% of people have bricked the device updating it to the June firmwares. You could try to manually downgrade the firmware via USB stick. Instructions are all over this thread including links to download older firmware. Beware that this could brick it too.

Pay for play is sad but common. I honestly think overall Carlinkit has been as good and responsive as they can for what is likely a small group in China making and selling a product this is very useful to many.

** I think what we all forget that this product is incredibly unique hack creating wired to wireless car play where none exists. It is not like it is a stand alone product serving a stand alone function.

** There is no official support, documentation or development kit for doing wired to wireless car play from Apple.

** We all wish Apple would make such a item or development kit, especially if they eventually keep their desire to eliminate physical ports from Iphones.

Anyone making such a device is reverse engineering hardware and software in both a Cars AV system and in an Iphone. They may be bypassing potential security, MFI checks and more. As there is no Apple official method every time there is a new IOS or AV unit and or update there is a risk of hack breaking. It is obvious from our differing experiences with the same firmware that there is a lot variability in CAR AV systems firmware and software as well that has to be compensated for.

Without knowing the details what has to be happening is both cars AV unit and Iphone are being tricked into thinking their talking to each other directly without breaking anything or having any hiccups. No easy task. Any hack is not guaranteed to remain functional. The only way to limit issues is to stop automatic updates on Iphones and car AV units, something most of us are unwilling to do.

I don’t disagree with most of what you wrote, but I think it would be better from the get go to state the obvious, something along the lines of:

We are a small company. We will try our best but there are no guarantees. What we have here is a hack and not supported by Apple. Try at your own risk.

The reality is that they have been telling people with significant issues that “a major update will be released in 2-3 weeks”. They have been saying this since February.

$160 bucks is a lot of money for some people. Full disclosure would be more acceptable. Speculating that they have good intentions while offering a 50% discount on Amazon for a 5 star rating is NOT ok. This product is anything but 5 stars. Maybe you think that’s ok, I don’t. Not everyone is a geek like us and reads this thread everyday. Most consumers drink the cool aide.

This dont work, the Firmware is deleted from the flash chip.
A friend which knows something about these flash modules and chips etc. tried to revive them but no chance to flash directly the flash chip. :(

But i got my money back from Aliexpress. i Paid 82€ for the Carlinkit Adapter, and Aliexpress pay 66€ back to me.
So now, im buying the new USB-C Version. AND DONT UPDATE :D

Same here, but I will regret the day when my USB-C needs an update as a result of an iOS update and the company is silent, gone or keeps saying "we are working on a major release that will be out in 2-3 weeks" and it never comes.....

It is what it is. I do wish some competent major brand company would jump in here and develop a product, but I am guessing it's not technically legal, so we are left to Chinese hackers for profit.

by the way i had with the first Version no problems. Only the Adapter gets really hot. i open it and stick some heatsinks from my raspberry on it, works really fine, no laggs after hours, really cool temps.
And all died with a Update :D
and a 2 second sound delay (2sec.). But with there is with the cable a sound delay too (0.5sec)

** Full Disclosure would certainly be preferred. ** I am happy the device exists none the less.
The Truth for many topics often has subtleties and complications that is lost on many...

On a completely separate note Amazon does a terrible job policing dishonest business practices on their site including counterfeiters and fraudulent information. I believe if I am not mistaken Amazon has an official program for discounted reviews called Vine where customers get products for a reduced price or free in exchange for positive reviews. Sigh. I read positive and negative reviews very carefully and pay no attention to Vine and non verified customer reviews.

As to waiting for updates.... **** Anyone buying a device that does not work for them out of the box or after an immediate OTA update should return it without delay not wait for greener pastures that may never come. Future issues after IOS or AV updates are a risk. Again disclosure would be good they could tell you that while make every effort to keep the hack working those updating risk loss of device funtionality.

On Amazon *paid* reviews, I do think there is a difference between sending someone a product at a discount and asking for a review vs. the manufacturer itself blatantly asking for 5's for a 50% discount on Facebook. Also, those reviews that are solicited are noted as such. Yes, I also put reviews into perspective, including the bone crushing killers. They are considered outliers.

I'm glad the product was developed too. I am one of the lucky ones. Again though, most consumers aren't watching this thread to reap the benefits of our experience. So many people bought the CP2A over the Carlinkit directly from the website and shipped from China. CP2A was more appealing to most. The website reads like a US company without spelling or grammatical errors. When that product didn't work for people, most were reluctant to ship it back to China at their cost plus a restocking fee. What I am saying is both companies (I would argue the same company with one selling at a premium) sold a lot of units under somewhat false pretenses to the unassuming consumer.

I'll eat crow if this product is still usable in 4 months (iOS14).

I have the same situation like you. It's pretty sad.Just like the adaptor is dead.My car don't recognize the carplay2air anymore.I've sent messages to the carplay2air.Waiting for they reply to me.

Exact same issue here with CP2Air device & a Mazda 3 since the beginning. None of the firmware had any impact on it. The most stable was the 6th of March release so far. I'll give another go with the 6th of June release and see if there is any improvement.

I have messaged them too and have not heard anything back. I’ll let you know if I hear anything.

Hi @datolis I think i have the same issue as you. I also have a new Peugeot 5008 from November 2019. I connected to the Hyundai of a colleague following the steps given by the manufacturer, i upgraded to the latest firmware and i thought my problems were finished.
Unfortunately then i connected it to my Peugeot and... nothing. I connect it, it pairs the bluetotooh to my iphone, then i accept the carplay message, it blinks blue for a few seconds and then it disconnects.

I attach a screenshot of the number of my car system. I think we have the same.

Please could you send me the video you made so i can check if it is performing exactly in the same way?

I wrote to Julie from the client support, waiting for her feedback.

anyone else has some experience with Peugeots?

@datolis how did you upgrade the car system?
Same problem here. Any luck
I have a 2018 Peugeot 3008 which I thought was almost identical to the 5008 and it works perfectly. I have the CarLinkIt but it appears to be identical to the CarPlay2Air. Maybe the 3008 and 5008 aren’t as similar as I thought?

Amazingly, my CarLinkIt has actually added functionality to my Peugeot 3008’s CarPlay implementation.

I was always frustrated that despite being able to swipe from one page of the home screen to another, and I could swipe up and down lists, I couldn’t drag the map around on Waze, Google Maps etc. It seemed like an odd omission as the built in sat nav supports multitouch. Now I’m connecting using the CarLinkIt, I can! It’s very slightly laggy but not bad at all. Pinch to zoom doesn’t work which is a shame but I’m very pleased to be able to drag now. Just in case it was something to do with the latest iOS beta, I tried the wire again and dragging definitely doesn’t work.

Car2Play Air and may have the pretty web site but definitely worse customer service from what I have seen. Well I think we both rather you would be wrong in this instance. I would say Carlinkit engineers at least are pretty crafty and will be able to make things work (I hope) if it breaks. Would seem the complicated part is variability in AV units carplay implementation. It is too bad that part of Carplay on the actual host in car AV system is not directly updatable by Apple to some sane and consistent standard.

So hoping Apple Makes their own wired to wireless. :)

I finally took the plunge and updated to 06.18 which showed up as an OTA update. It updated smoothly and fixed my Next / Previous buttons. This is with a 2020 Toyota Prius XLE using the original unit purchased from Carplay2Air.

My car2Play dongle just arrived and every time I try to plug it in it doesn’t work. I recorded this Video that shows exactly what is happening. What should I do ? Should I return it ? My car is a Peugeot 3008 2018/2019. Thanks.

This would be the ultimate state and I would pay Apple prices for it without blinking an eye. I guess the hope is that they remove the lightening port in the next iPhone or the next. Then Apple will have to develop a solution. There are enough cars with factory wireless CarPlay for Apple to say too bad.

Hmm, it’s seeing the device which is good. For troubleshooting purposes, try disconnecting the iPhone’s WiFi from your home network and it’s Bluetooth from the car (delete the entry on the car & iPhone). Then with the adapter plugged in, scan for the adapter a Bluetooth, once that connects your iphone should then connect to the adapters wireless network then hopefully show on the Cara screen.

Great it went smooth. What exactly were your Next/Previous issues? Seems to be 50/50 on the OTA upgrade going smoothly with no recourse when it does not.

When I’d connect from initially turning the car on, all of my physical Prev / Next buttons wouldn’t work. Though if I reconnected while the car was already on, they’d work.

After the update, all Prev / Next buttons work on the first connect every time so far. At this point all features of the car work as expected, no noticeable delays when talking and only a few second delays when skipping tracks.

Oh... I plan on updating to iOS 14 today, I’ll try and report back on compatibility.

I’ve already tried this and it’s still not working... it disappears very fast from the screen I can’t even select search on screen to pair with my iPhone... Although my car is a model listed on website maybe its system is incompatible.

Better start plucking some crows.
iOS 14 Developer Beta is out.....Will find out if it works with the dongle.
