But the update was removed again... Currently there is no (new) OTA update

Yeah but many people have units delivered with 3.18 on them and a few other variations of FW. It’s kind of BS. Who actually knows what is “official “ when the product ships with a roulette wheel of FWs. No release notes, no announcement and no documentation. They randomly put FWs out via OTA and wait to see how many it will brick or *** up and then pull it.

I have an cplay2air and I can’t update it OTA because it doesn’t connect to my car or my iphone. I hope that after an update, it will work. Which latest version should I download ? I don’t wanna brick my dongle... btw is it ok getting updates from these links people share here to cplay2air too or it just works for Carlinkit ? Any help ? Thanks...

I'm not sure anyone can give you 100% assurance which version you should update to. From reading posts here, some people have bricked theirs flashing by USB, but also some have bricked via OTA. So no matter what you do, there is some risk in bricking your adapter.

That said, I think most people have been successful with their flashing attempts. Personally, I have flashed 3.04, 3.06, 6.06, 6.16 and now 6.17. I believe you will find links/attachments for all of those in this thread.

If you want to try flashing via USB, do so at your own risk. Here is my own list of "Best Practices":

1. Use a small capacity USB flash drive, USB 2.0 if possible. I use an older 4GB USB 2.0 drive and I've been using it for every firmware update I flashed with success each time. Maybe larger ones will work. Maybe USB 3.0 ones will work, but IMHO a small USB 2.0 drive is the least risky.

2. Format that USB flash drive as FAT/FAT16/FAT32. No ExFAT, No NTFS, no HFS, no APS. It needs to be in FAT format.

3. Place the U2W_Update.img file on the drive. It must be at the root of the drive, not in a subfolder. Make sure there are no other files or folders on the drive. Eject the drive from your computer.

4. Take your CP2A/Carlinkit out of the car and locate a high quality USB power supply, at least 1A but preferably one that delivers 2A or more at 5V. A genuine Apple iPad USB adapter (2.1A or 2.4A) is ideal.

5. Plug your USB flash drive into the USB port on the CP2A/Carlinkit.

6. Cross your fingers and plug the CP2A/Carlinkit into your USB power supply. Make sure you plug it in firmly and take extra care that you do not pull it out.

7. Carefully lift up the CP2A/Carlinkit so you can see the tiny LED above where you plugged in the USB flash drive. It should light up red at first. Depending on which firmware you flash, the next thing you may see is alternating flashing red and blue lights (June firmware). Or it may stay solid red during the flashing process (March firmware). In any case, leave it plugged in for several minutes. After that you should either see both red and blue lights on solid (if flashing a March firmware), or just the red light solid (if flashing a June firmware).

8. Don't pull the flash drive out of the CP2A/Carlinkit while it is still powered. After you have waited several minutes, I think it is safer to pull the CP2A/Carlinkit out of the USB power adapter first. Then, pull the USB flash drive out.

9. Take it back out to your car, plug it in to the car's USB port and start your car. Hopefully it will work.

10. If you were unfortunate and bricked the adapter, you will see a solid blue light when you plug it in. Sadly, no one has yet figured out a way to recover it if that is the case. On the other hand, if when you plug it into your car and the red light comes on but it still doesn't work, then the adapter is probably working fine, just not compatible with your vehicle.

Hope that helps, and good luck.

Updated my Mazda Connect to 70.00.367A this week to fix a SiriusXM issue. The Carlinkit adapter running 2020.03.18 firmware still had the same issues. It ran "ok" the first day I tried it, but then had issues pairing to the phone the next day or two, and I also experienced at least one full Mazda Connect reboot. The reboots may be tied to Waze and/or other apps pausing/continuing music streaming. The initial reports of iOS 14 appear to indicate that it seems to be less "hiccupy" with Carlinkit, so I am hoping that the upcoming iOS release will help with the MC issues. I am not quite ready to install early beta software on my phone to test, though.

I had a successful update, I've flashed 6.17. It's not bricked but unfortunately it's still not working on my car. Hope they fix it on upcommig updates. thank You

Has Anyone been able to downgrade from 6.17? On my 2016 colorado, 3.06 was working well and the music skipping and stuttering after 5min had finally stopped. That is back now for my use, XS Max on 13.5.1, after OTA upgrade to 6.17 on a reg USB Carlinkit. Using the exact same USB drive with the same 3.06 U2W_Update.img file that I used month or 2 back, following the same process linked above nothing happens. No blue light. I can leave the iPad charger, Carlinkit with the USB flash plugged into each other for an hour following the process described above and nothing. Still at 6.17. Anything that needs to be different to make it work?

How about security of this device? Can it upload my contacts or personal data to china, by misusing the LTE connection of the iphone etc?

See, I told you :) I can't believe how much faster the dongle connects. The audio quality is better. My only issue is the one that I had before. I have the 5-min audio distortion bug. That's still there. A Carplay2 Air FW update could fix that at any time. And then I would be perfect. By the way I have an 11 Pro Max as well. It's flying.
I have had the Carplay2 for about two months and have been trying to get some reason why the iTunes music distortion kicks in after five minutes so I have been using Amazon Music instead with no problem is there a fix out there because everything else works on my Vauxhall Astra 2016.

MOD NOTE

I have been following this thread for some time and agree with the various posts scattered throughout, that it would be useful if the first post was a wiki which could be updated by others. You ask and you shall receive.

Let’s see how it goes...hopefully someone is brave enough to create an FAQ of sorts. PM me if any concerns.

What system do you have in your Vauxhall Astra? Is it the Intellilink system?

I’ve got a CarLinkIt and it’s never worked for me. Only thing ever seen is CarPlay icon flash up on the car touch screen and disappear.

What version are you on? Does it work every time?

Can you get a photo/video of it please? What version Intellilink, if that’s what it is, are you on?

Mine looks like this

I’m definitely cautious about using betas, especially first ones. I can say that this is the most stable beta I’ve ever tried. I mean, everything works that I use. I wouldn’t even know it’s a beta. Try at your own risk but the move to iOS 14 for me has been seamless.

Ah ok, that’s strange then, mine is the one with Sat Nav on, the Navi 900 as you say called.

Can’t think what the difference is then, and why my CarLinkIt has never worked (in the Vauxhall has on a friend Merc).

What version are you on your CarPlay2Air? I think I may try and update mine to the 2020-06-17 the. To see if works.

Frustrated now why mine never worked yet yours does and nigh on the same system...

**edit** well just wasted another few hours of my life trying to get it to work...

updated to 2020-06-19 via USB alternate flashing LEDs, Sm then solid red so successful.

plugged into my car, solid red....and nothing, nothing showed in Bluetooth.

restarted iPhone, deleted Bluetooth, forgot gone WiFi, unplugged dongle, stop/started car etc etc and nothing, hasn’t even found it on Bluetooth. 😦

It's not iOS version problem. This should work without any phone connected or paired. And it's not working. It's not connecting between dongle and MZD Connect.

It's working this way: dongle emulate CarPlay (phone) protocol (using reverse engineering - there is no documentation from Apple for that), then allows to connect via bluetooth+wifi phones and emulate CarPlay receiver (this is documented, because implementation of receiver module is in radio-producer hands), and then connects this two elements together. This is source of lag. But also source of problems for example in Mazda is poor CarPlay protocol implementation.

So to all people that are thinking of buying this crap after seeing google ad-s: DO NOT BUY THIS (especially if You own Mazda-s). IT'S NOT WORKING. IT'S CRAP.

An update was made available today through the direct link, however it just rolls devices back to 2020.06.17.0549.

Yes I applied today’s update 6-28-20 but 6-17 firmware was installed.

And it's ok ;) just have a look at the version, not the file path:
Code:
filePath: /download/2020-06-28/U2W_Update.img

fileName: U2W_Update.img
version: 2020.06.17.0549
updateTime: 2020-06-28 14:42:27

updateLog:
1.Disconnect Carplay connection before upgrade
2.Connect iPhone to WIFI of the adapter (Password is 12345678)
3.Don't power off or interrupt during the process
4.Please wait for the device auto restart
(When updating, the light Alternate flashing)
