Excellent. English = Good News. Now, what version were you able to install via the OTA (192.168.50.2). Is it 2020.06.17.0549? And when did you perform that OTA update?
I perform the OTA 6/28/2020 (New York). I don't have the exact version.

So you did that update, yesterday (Sunday), from the East Coast. Got it.

If you go to that same page in your iPhone's safari, it will show you what version you are running, directly below the message that states, "It is the latest version". See here:

I just picked up the Carlinkit 2.0 (the one with the removable USB C cord) to use in my 2018 Chevy Cruze LT (Chevy MyLink with 8" touchscreen)

Initially, it didn't seem to work at all. I plugged it in, it would flash red, flash green for a second and then back to red. I managed to get the Bluetooth connection screen on my stereo for half a second before the stereo said there were no supported devices connected. Still, the device showed up in the bluetooth settings on my phone and once I paired it I was prompted to use CarPlay. I did this, and the CarPlay logo appeared on the car's home screen, but clicking it made it disappear without ever actually seeing the CarPlay interface. I logged on to the website to check for updates and it showed there was one available, but the devices seemed to disconnect because the site stopped responding.

I unplugged the adapter and plugged it back in which would start this loop over again, flashing red, a quick flash of green with the CarPlay logo on screen, flashing red again, back to green for maybe 5 seconds then the light goes off and its solid red and unresponsive. During the second slightly longer green light, the website will respond so I was able to get it there long enough to hit update but it stalled at 90%. This same thing happened at least 10 times.

So I went home, tried flashing the latest firmware (2020.06.19.1354) and it seemed to work. I used the Apple usb charger and a small flash drive, had red and green lights flashing for a minute before it was solid red, left it there for 5 minutes to be safe. I went back to the car and nothing happened, just solid red. I tried forgetting the car in CarPlay settings and I shut the car off and on. This time I got the bluetooth pairing screen again for half a second, but not long enough to hit search. I then got a pairing request on my phone followed by the CarPlay prompt again. I accepted it, and the device flashed green, I checked the site and it showed I was on the latest version. I took a screen capture of this and it also took a screen capture of the now playing screen in CarPlay, despite not actually showing the screen on my stereo. It also played 3 seconds of music before it stopped, the light went off and then back to solid red.

So I'm not sure if this means I have a bad device or if my car is simply not supported. The fact that I got some music and also a screenshot seems like it was working a little bit, the problem is it just doesn't stay connected for longer than 3 seconds so it never shows up on my car's screen.

Any suggestions about what to do next? I purchased it on Amazon so I have a month to return it.

Kudos for even getting those results. I simply cant get it connect at all in my 2020 Malibu or 2019 Equinox. Both with identical 8” MyLink screen. And I desperately want to with the built in wireless function in each vehicle. I have used it previously in a VW (perfectly) so I’m confident it’s not OP ERR.

Trying to do the OTA update. First instruction on my iPhone is to "Disconnect Carplay connection before upgrade". What exactly is this telling me to do? If I turn off Carplay on my vehicle screen, the connection drops.

I tried connecting the dongle to USB power in my house to see if I can do the 2nd instruction, "Connect iPhone to WIFI of the adapter", but I don't see the WiFi to connect to.

Puzzled...

Edit: I just flashed from a USB stick. Was easy enough. Reconnecting to the car, had to delete all the previous connections on the car and iPhone, then it worked.

I obtained an unused iPhone 7 from a friend and updated it to iOS 14. Unfortunately, the Carlinkit issues with the Mazda Connect system are still present on iOS 14 (at least with the Carlinkit March firmware). As an aside, my Carlinkit is showing the OTA 6.17 firmware is available for update, but the OTA update hangs at 90%. I suspect that firmware is no longer in the server - when I browse to the server URL with the 6.17 date, I get a 404 code, but I can go to the 6.19 date URL with no issues. I am wary of going past 6.17 since that appears to be the recommended OTA firmware so I'll try to get the 6.17 firmware and go from there.

Which adapter are you using? I'm in the same boat as you but a bit hesitant to flash. I have the cplay2air which is the older model.

Fantastic! Thanks, Denali. All parts ordered and I'll report back after cobbling that harness together. Really appreciate all of your help.

Would love to see how you got that harness tucked up in your console, if you can share that...

Attached is a video of the hardness I made and tucked it away in my center console.

Outstanding, thanks Denali! As mentioned, I too ordered the parts to build this delay-harness. Very excited to do so.

However, and quite sheepishly (as I previously claimed I did NOT suffer from the five-minute distorted music issue), I DO suffer the five-ish-minute-crackling-distortion issue. Super bummed. I am assuming, that my recent USB flash, up to 2020.06.17.0549 is what introduced this for me, as I previously had 2020.03.18.1455 and this was NOT an issue. So, now, I have an adapter that still wont boot correctly if plugged in at startup and now suffers severely degraded music quality about five minutes into listening to tunes. Great. Just wonderful.

And, as Denali has so adeptly pointed out, I cannot downgrade back to 3.18, so I have flashed my way into a totally useless adapter. My only hope is that they will introduce a new firmware that fixes the audio glitch (and hopefully in English too).

Bah. Bummer.

Hello, wondering if you can share where you got the firmware and how you update via usb. My OTA sticks at 90% not sure if I am doing it correctly, would like to try your method, if you don’t mind. Thank you

Well, I *think* my adapter is now running the 06.17 firmware, but I couldn't verify it because I can't get it to connect reliably to the Mazda Connect system (I keep getting a "CarPlay Failed" message from the Mazda system - this message also happened often before the upgrade). The adapter did connect once and gave me the Carlinkit initial screen where it lists the phones it's looking for in Bluetooth, but I couldn't get my phone to connect. BTW, there is a "world" icon in the lower right side corner of that screen - if you click/tap on it, it will change the screen language. Hope that helps the people stuck with the Chinese screen.

Looks like the OTA update is offline again:
Code:
${"filePath":".\/download\/","fileSize":0,"fileName":"U2W_Update.img","version":"","updateTime":"","updateLog":""}

I hit this snag, one way to recover is reset your Infotainment to factory settings. Very obnoxious, but needed to do some more testing.

Interesting... usually after trying a few times, the Carlinkit will eventually connect... rebooting the Mazda Connect system may help, but I have had the issues connecting even after a reboot. Haven't tried defaulting the Mazda Connect system... would hate to do that unless the "CarPlay Failed" messages completely go away by doing it.

It resets but eventually you get the "CarPlay Failed" message back after a few seconds. But it allows you to access the USB adapter and read its status, update it, etc...

Sorry, I'm using a CarPlay2Air I purchased a couple months ago. It came with the 2020-01-22 version of the software.

I was trying to follow their instructions on the 192.168.50.2 web page which indicated there was an update. First try OTA, it seemed to be working and went to 100%, but nothing was happening on the dongle...no red/blue alternating. After waiting awhile, I disconnected/reconnected and it had done nothing. Tried one more time and it hung at 90%. So, I just did the the USB stick method.

I got my copy of the firmware from this link which seemed to be the consensus latest version:

But as others have noted, it's not working today. However, the 2020-06-19 and 2020-06-24 links *are* working.

I also needed to forget the WiFi and delete the Bluetooth previous connections. And also remove the 2 phones I had setup in CarPlay on my Ford Sync. Then it immediately began the reconnect process and is working now.

I just received an email from Carplay2air technical. I am having the 5 minute issue with my 2016 Silverado. They are asking me to return the adapter I have and they are going to replace it. Is the new unit going to have the same issue?

I am as well. I'm not sure what returning the adaptor is going to do, unless they know that you cannot rollback to the 03.18 firmware, now that you are at 06.17, so the only "fix" they have is for you to spend $35 to send it back to China, then wait a month to get a "new" adapter, which will essentially be an "old" adapter, with the 3.18 firmware on it.

This is my best guess, because they are trying to get me to do the same, but they refuse to tell me why this will be any different than the adapter I already have.

We need to DEMAND that they release a new firmware, with this audio glitch resolved! Sending adaptors back, because they've introduced a bug in their firmware AND added code to prevent us from downgrading firmware versions, is THEIR fault, not ours. I feel like it shouldn't cost us a penny to get the product, we paid full retail price for, working as advertised!

But that's just me, I could be wrong. We need new firmware!

If CarPlay2air flashes 3-6-20 firmware on it you’ll be good.

anything else doesn’t work right. I’ve tried them all. The June 2020 firmware locked the downgrade process.

Just going to point out that at least one person on the forum has reported receiving an email from carlinkit/carplay2air stating that the 01/22 firmware was the last official firmware release. All others have been beta releases and are install at your own risk. It's not a good practice making the buyer pay return shipping, but I think this is the best you are going to get for help.

As for the Chinese/English language issue. That is very strange. I have tried every beta install without any issues on both a carplay2air unit and carlinkit usb-c unit, even retaining being set to English.

Link to the reported email about last official release.

Hmm have a strange new issue with my Cplay2Air and Ford Sync where when i play audio the car thinks its a phone call rather than music, in my car that limits the audio to the front and sounds pretty awful. My units on Ver:2020.03.18.1455 - do people recommend flashing upto the 17 June Beta? Is there a post with all the firmware's did go back through some pages but couldn't find!

Edit: found a copy of the 06 17 firmware and flashed it and all went well and fixed the issue for now🤞

While that may be true -- I was furnished the 2020.06.17.0549 update FROM CPlay2Air support and specifically instructed to update my adapter. And further, the link that was sent to me, to download that firmware from, had the firmware titled, "U2W_Update FINAL". So apparently, they felt it was final enough to be considered safe for public consumption.

I am with Denali here; it's just plain whacky the way this company (CPlay2Air) behaves when it comes to these CRUCIAL firmware updates. These dongles are only as good as their firmware, and they cloak the status of these firmwares in such mystery -- posting them to the OTA server, and then subsequently removing them, without notice, rhyme or reason. Why not have a repo of all the issued firmwares, and let us freely flash whichever one works best for us and our specific vehicles? Why are we forced to guess and go on rumors to get our hardware working?

And now, with these June 2020 updates, we are effectively blocked from downgrading. WTF? Why? Draconian, to say the least.

The complete lack of communication and transparency is excruciatingly frustrating. These dongles are not cheap, and this service (or lack thereof) is untenable. While you CAN send emails into support (support@carplay2air.reamaze.com), all you get are canned/boilerplate responses, that don't seem to even take what you were inquiring about into consideration; going off in a completely different direction, ultimately resulting in, "Ok, you'll need to send it back to us for replacement. Please follow the instructions below to return it to us."...giving you an address in China. Just silly.

What we NEED, is a new firmware that addresses these 5-minute audio distortion issues (that it seems a LOT of people are complaining about) and/or a firmware newer than 2020.06.17.0549, so that it will be allowed to flash, that restores our ability to downgrade our firmware, if a previous version (2020.03.06.xxxx) actually worked better for us. Is that too much to ask?

So, 2020.06.17.0549 is all good for you, Simps? You do NOT have the 5-minute audio distortion issue?

Carl, I forgot to ask you...what firmware are you running on your CPlay2Air dongle? If you are experiencing the 5-minute issue, I am going to assume it's one of the June 2020 versions? Which, may also be why they are requesting you send it back for replacement -- they can't send you the 2020.03.06 firmware to rollback to. They need to send you a new adapter to roll you back. So silly.

This would effectively put you into a month - month and half holding period, while you wait for your adapter to travel back to China (on your dime) and then wait for one to come back. If they really feel like new hardware will solve your issues, then they are effectively admitting that they screwed the pooch with the June 2020 update. So, since it's their fault, they should send you the new adapter and a pre-paid return box for sending the old one back. You shouldn't be responsible for the wait, nor the shipping cost.
