8.4 OTA works fine for me, but on an aftermarket Pioneer, these bugs are still present.
- Black screen if you wait for the warning screen to timeout rather than clear
- Fast forwarding a track once repeats many times.
Try to connect your iPhone per bluetooth directly to the pioneer unit also. Unplug the adapter, pair your phone with the headunit and replug the adapter. This additonal connection solved the black screen issue for me.
Amazon has the white usb-c Carlinkit units in stock with fulfillment by Amazon.com & Prime shipping. I received one yesterday and while I can't tell what firmware is installed due to 192.168.50.2 wanting me to upgrade to 2020.07.17 (never going to happen!), it may have March firmware installed as I have a 100% success rate of the CarPlay interface displaying after vehicle startup on my Pioneer C2550NEX headunit.
@Diehminer
Actually, your device is always successfully connecting to your HU, even if it gives you the blank screen. The CarPlay interface is present and useable while the screen is blank and it can be "fixed" w/o leaving CarPlay mode by triggering any type of display change (even the OSD Siri is all it takes sometimes). I used to think the blank screen issue was video signal or even timing related but now I am starting to think it is a buggy WIP to follow Apple's Wireless CarPlay guidelines closer and make the connection process invisible like a HU with native wireless CarPlay would. Adding weight to this theory is the fact that you have always been able to connect to the CP2A & Carlinkit modules the way Apple specifies by selecting Settings>General>CarPlay>HU Name on your iOS device, in addition to CP2A/Carlinkit's directions of manually connecting to the bluetooth network displayed on your HU screen.
@fruitbat04 @Chstoll
The track skipping issue has been present on Pioneer headunits going back to the 2020.03.18 fw and possibly older versions as well. The only workaround for it is to plug a 2nd wireless Carplay device into the first one and connect your iPhone to the 2nd one - but it does not fix the issue of hanging up calls with the steering wheel controls.
The skipping issue and it's workaround are known to Carlinkit's engineers. Unfortunately, they recently informed me that so far they have been unable to determine why it (mostly) solves the issue.
hey fruitbat, take a look at a workaround for now that was pointed out to me. Only downside is that CarPlay takes 50 seconds now instead of the old 30 seconds.
Can you recommend the delay harness and how it works? Would like to get to 99 percent. Not there yet.UPDATE: Just a field note; been using 2020.07.29.1705 for almost a week now. Coupled with @2018 Denali 's delay relay harness in my 2017 GMC 1500 Denali, it's been 99% fool-proof! No more audio glitches, no stuttering. I only had one quick stop, where it didn't reconnect automatically, but who knows what the cause was. I'm just thrilled to be finally getting my money's worth out of this device. After all the trials and tribulations, I'm thinking that I'm not going to bother with 2020.08.04, unless one of y'all can tell me there is something in there that makes it worth it. For now, I am a happy camper!
Yup, it's Denali's brain-child. And is well documented in this thread. Page 74 - Denali's Delay Harness I built one and tucked in below the stash bin in the front on the center console storage box, just in front of my vault/gun-safe. Fit's perfectly and is out of the way!Can you recommend the delay harness and how it works? Would like to get to 99 percent. Not there yet.
I haven't been willing to risk it -- mine is working right now!!! Anyone else make the leap from 7.29, to 8.04?Interested in feedback from those who ran 7.29 and went to 8.4. Notice any improvements?
Is there anything you’re intentionally doing from a cold start with regards to timing? For example, do you wait for the splash screen to finish loading each time before starting the car, do you wait for the dongle interface to appear before putting in reverse, etc.?My carlinkit 2.0 has settled in on my Chevy Colorado 2020. It never breaks my infotainment anymore. It always connects to apple CarPlay within 40 seconds from a cold start. If not a cold start, often it will connect 5-10 minutes later while driving. Most of my usage will be in the morning going to work and then home which provides the cold start for this thing to work. It has taken two weeks and many tweaks, trial and error, but it is finallly worth the price I paid. Every day I thought of sending this crap back to Amazon. Glad I kept fiddling with it.
I am with you on upgrading. It's like Russian roulette success vs. brick. It should not be this way. I have never been around a product that invites itself to "upgrades" at the risk of it becoming obsolete.I haven't been willing to risk it -- mine is working right now!!! Exactly. I said, and heard others say, they wish they'd never have "upgraded" away from 2020.03.04 -- because it worked. I'm gonna sit tight, right where I am for now. If I had two functioning units still, I'd be a little more gregarious. But as I've only got the one non-bricked adapter, I'm protecting it!I am with you on upgrading. I gotta admit, 2020.07.29.1705 has been absolutely NAILS for me. No more 5min audio glitch. No stutters. All features are working -- steering wheel controls, touch screen is responsive, Siri works as expected, apps fire up and switch seamlessly. Calls, texts all working. Is there a slight delay between clicking the next/previous track on my wheel and the system actually changing songs? Yes. But no more than you'd get if it were hooked up via Bluetooth to the head-unit directly. I find it switches the song title and cover art quickly, but then takes a second or two to hear the change -- most likely a buffered song stream issue. But this is really a non-significant issue. 7.29 is a winner, for me, in my vehicle. As mentioned, I do run the @2018 Denali delay harness, but that is a totally separate issue, that this resolves.I meant to ask you, I have a 2016 Silverado and my Cplay2air is at 3.6, it's working OK. There is a 2 seconds delay when changing songs, and a bit of crackling here and there, not too bad, it only lasts for a split second, nothing I can't live with, but I'm wondering if 7.29 adds any improvement to my minor issues. I know that you didn't come from 2.6 to be able to tell but any comments are appreciated. 2018 Denali promised to let me know how it's going after he's had spent some time with the 7.29. I just thought to get more insight while waiting.

Yeah, I kind of did a stupid thing going from a working almost perfectly 1.22 to 7.29. I got lucky, although I have not noticed any differences.Exactly. 8.04 is also working great for me in a 2016 Chevy Colorado. As good or better than 3.06 which was the last version that worked for me without the 5 min audio distortion bug. From memory, which is a couple months ago, less delay when switching songs and no distortion/crackling so far with all 20 min or less trips. Could never get 7.29 to boot completely on my USB-A carlinkit.I meant to ask you, I have a 2016 Silverado and my Cplay2air is at 3.6, it's working OK. Man! I wish there was a foolproof way to resurrect dead/bricked devices... We should be able to plug them into our computers and forcefully re-flash them somehow. I hate having a ~$140 brick sitting on my desk. Doh!
Whoa...ok, I'm down to try anything on this.Try this on your bricked unit.
1. With your truck on and wireless CarPlay running search 192.168.50.2 it should show you the firmware update to 8-4-20 on your phone. Keep this page open.
2. Connect the bricked unit to the wall power brick.
3. Connect a iPhone/iPad lightning cord to the bricked unit.
4. Connect your phone to the lightning cord.
5. Now press the update firmware tab on safari on your iPhone screen and let it go through the process.
6. This worked for me on my Carlinkit usb-c once when I couldn’t get it to do anything.
Whoa...ok, I'm down to try anything on this.
So, on step 1, you mean using my known good device (Carlinkit v2 USB-C) in my truck, to get the 192.168.50.2 page up, right? Then, inside the house, power the bricked unit, THEN plug the lightning cable into the adapter, THEN plug the lightning cable into my iPhone, with that page still up in safari, THEN click update?
Sounds super nutty -- but that would just be par for the course on these things. I'll give that a shot after work today!
