I can't know. As mentioned, my adapter had NO lights whatsoever. But maybe? If it's behaving bricked, what could it hurt to try? Right?!Do you think that this procedere also works with an adapter that shows the blue light only?

As you probably saw, I did an OTA update this morning and it went smooth as it should and as it did when all my units were new and freshly installed. I actually think there are more variables doing a manual update.Well, again, I'll be a blue-nosed gopher. This actually worked! I have a resurrected CPlay2Air unit now!
I did exactly as Denali outlined. After plugging into the lightning cable, I clicked "Update", it slowly worked its way from 0% to 100%, then gave me a spinning ring with the message "Upgrading, please be patient, this could take a while". It then reported, "Upgrade Complete". So I unplugged everything, took it back out to the truck and BAM, it came back to life! Head-unit saw it, and I was able to join it with my phone. All good!
Now here is the weird thing: After joining the adapter's WiFi manually in the truck, I navigated to 192.168.50.2 and it reported the firmware as 7.17 (which is what was on the adapter when I bricked it)! So I disconnected, and reconnected via Bluetooth (which then handed off to WiFi) and re-navigated to 192.168.50.2 and it is now offering to "Discover a new version..." to 2020.08.04.xxxx. I was too scaredy-cat to try another OTA update, so I shut down and have brought everything in the house to do a manual USB update to 2020.08.04 and see if that works.
So, to sum up, I am not totally sure exactly HOW this works, but it certainly does. I had a totally unresponsive, completely dead / bricked, CPlay2Air adapter, that would show absolutely ZERO lights, in the truck or when plugged into a power adapter, that now is working again. And while I'll be the first to admit that I was very skeptical about this technique, given my years of experience with networking and routing, I am extremely happy to report that it works! Or at least it did for my bricked unit. YMMV.
@2018 Denali, I don't know what kinda cereal you eat for breakfast, but it must be the "breakfast of champions", because once again, you my friend, "are da freakin' man"!
Hey Larry, I understand. I have only had the one bricking-event during an OTA update, so I am a little gun-shy. But while we are on the topic, can I ask you exactly what your process is to perform OTA updates? Do you allow your phone to connect, as usual, as if you were going to simply USE the adapter? I've seen conflicting reports, that you don't want to be fully connected (Bluetooth hand-off to Wi-Fi), and that you want to manually connect to the adapter, by turning off Bluetooth and manually connecting to the adapter's Wi-Fi. Which also helps to NOT be within range of your home's Wi-Fi, because as soon as your phone sees that it cant reach the internet via the adapter's Wi-Fi, it will switch back to your home Wi-Fi, to satisfy that need.As you probably saw, I did an OTA update this morning and it went smooth as it should and as it did when all my units were new and freshly installed. Would you mind doing an outline of the exact steps you take to safely perform OTA updates? Thanks, in advance.
OK, makes sense. I'll pull away from the house and try this. Thanks for the step-by-step, Larry! No problem, it is pretty simple:
- Start Car
- Let Device Connect and Fully Boot to Apple CarPlay Screen (my last song started playing)
- On iPhone 11 Pro Max - go to the 192.xxx.... upgrade site
- Tells me upgrade available
- Click Upgrade
- Downloads the file in about 10 seconds
- Device Disconnects
- Install Begins and take about 60 seconds
- Device Reboots and Connects
- Apple Carplay launched, music starts playing
I did this in my work parking lot. My device may or may not have been connected to my work wifi. It probably wasn't as I was parked too far away.
Throw it in your car and do OTA! The fact that you are having issues manually tells me you should stop there. OTA works fine.Another oddity...I cannot for the life of me get 2020.08.04 to USB manually flash. It's really weird. I was able to get my (recently resurrected) CPlay2Air adapter to USB update to 2020.07.29 without issue, but when that 2020.08.04 firmware is on the USB thumb drive, it won't update. I'm wondering if there is some different about 8.4 that prevents manual updating. Can anybody confirm or deny this? Has anyone manually updated (via USB) their adapters to 2020.08.04?
Maybe I have a bad copy of 8.4. Perhaps I'll download it and try again...
Ha! I hear ya, Larry. I'm not "having issues"; just with my copy of 8.4 seems suspect. But yes, rest assured, I will be trying the OTA update, at lunch today! Thanks, mate.Throw it in your car and do OTA! The fact that you are having issues manually tells me you should stop there. OTA works fine.
God I hope it goes smoothly or I will be sending you $130 bucks for leading you down the dark road;-)Ha! I hear ya, Larry. I'm not "having issues"; just with my copy of 8.4 seems suspect. But yes, rest assured, I will be trying the OTA update, at lunch today! Thanks, mate.
Ha! Never! We are all in this together! These companies need to put us on payroll. We ARE their QA department!!!God I hope it goes smoothly or I will be sending you $130 bucks for leading you down the dark road;-)

Crazy as it is, I am too! Stoked! Thanks again.I’m glad it worked for you! 👍
Hi,Hello friends,
I just received my Carlinkit Plus (usb C) and ave a music issue that cuts out after 30 seconds and the device restarts ... even with the last update 04/08.
my car is a Mercedes class A W176 from 201.
someone has the same problem and who can help me?
thank you so much
Crazy as it is, I am too! Stoked! Thanks again.
It's nice to have TWO units, one you can protect and one to experiment with! Very handy!
Good deal, glad you were able to sort that out. I am thinking of getting another dongle just for that reason. Are you planning on updating the dongle you brought up from the dead to a firmware that works in your vehicle, say the 8-4 since your already have the 7-29 to compare and contrast? Do you by any chance have the 07-29-2020 update? I kinda need that.
God deal, ya, the manual upgrade process is pretty dependent on all the stars aligning - correct size drive, correct FAT32 formatting, correct power supply.I bought the 2.0 version from Amazon. Everything was working great, did some upgrades and got it to 7-29-20. Soon as I flashed to 8-4-20, the device no longer even shows up as a device in my car, nothing happens. No bluetooth connection, red light on the device. I can't seem to get it back now. Does anyone happen to have the FW file for 8-4 that I can try via USB?

Thread is pretty long but I feel like I have this correct: FAT32 formatted thumb drive with the firwmare in the root directory. Plug into wall wart, lights flash red/green, let sit for a few minutes then unplug it.
Double edit: Worked! Device brought back from the dead. Oddly I had to format the drive using a windows box. Format FAT32 drive from mac didn't seem to flash the firwmare correctly even after the green blinking light sequence.
hey all!
I’ve updated to iOS 14 and now I see this WiFi! logo instead of LTE. Have anyone else encountered this behavior? Any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks in advance!View attachment 941353
thank you! clicked ‘Forget the network’ and now everything’s greatThis usually only happens if you manually connect to the Carlinkits WiFi in settings instead of letting it do it automatically.
OTA Updated BOTH of my adapters to 2020.08.04.1602, without a hitch! Both seem to work as expected. Can't say that the tracks switch any quicker than 2020.07.29, but I am also not on iOS14 yet, so I think that helps. No audio glitches, connecting without issues.
