Edit: Support resolved the issue with the bricked device by supplying a download link to an updated firmware. That firmware was able to resolve the main problem, as well as allow the 2020.08.10 firmware to be loaded to the device.
I bought the U2W model (USB-C version link:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B086JN1SGX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).
It worked great, the last successful version that would connect to my 2020 Tundra display was the 2020.07.17 firmware. They then released a
2020.08.04 firmware-fail, which basically bricked the device. It's no longer picked up by my stereo. Their support has ran me around in circles (I've tried Amazon emails, emails to their support, and finally with their WhatsApp number). Uploaded logs, screenshots, etc.. they never provide any useful solution. I got the:
"Hello there,
1. Due to the impact of COVID-19, global shipping rules have been changed, so we cannot obtain cross-international air waybill labels.
2. The latest version of our firmware upgrade will be released in 2-3 weeks. Would you like to wait?
waiting for your reply"
-- and other lame response; checked the device two days later and the 08.09 update was successfully installed, but the device is still a brick. Now it's stuck trying to install the 2020.08.10 release, which shows successful, but once it reboots, it says to update over and over (their support keeps insisting I update). Needless to say, I think they have some quality control issues on their firmware releases, and their support is pretty useless.
My advice, if you have a working device... Do not update. At least,
do not update past the 07.17 release to the 08.04. The 07.17 firmware worked great for me. No lag other than the audio (which is normal, and honestly, expected). Booted up within seconds of the truck; and allowed both my phone and my Wife's phone to be saved. -- I'm kicking myself now for attempting to update (my OCD kills me, running unpatched stuff).
I'm pending a return acceptance on their side. However, they're telling me that due to COVID19 they're unable to provide a return shipping label, so it's on my dime to send it to China. I'm actually just ordering a second on on Amazon (prime, get it in a couple of days); and will work through the painful return shipping. - I might attempt to update the new one, assuming it's on a version earlier than 07.17.. If/once it is on the 07.17 release, I'm camping that probably until the device is dead. -- Nothing worse than trying to work with a support who only responds mid-night-to-3am, feels like they rotate your case every response to someone new, and you get absolutely nowhere except a bunch of canned copy/paste responses.
Unfortunately, it looks like you're not able to downgrade. I've tried downloading the one firmware I can find here (
http://www.carlinkit.com/newsinfo/422758.html) following the guide and no joy (their support also confirmed no ability to downgrade). It just reboots back to the same updated version. Trying to comb through the page source code on the device, and piecing together a bunch of PHP code to attempt to get an updated firmware URL isn't looking promising either (too many dependencies rely on the device's information it has to POST).
