I was referring to track change, but I don't have any delay either. Yeah, Chrysler owns Maserati as well as Alpha Romeo. The biggest jab Maserati gets on the internet. Doesn't bother me, Ferrari make the engine, there are definitely some Chrysler switches and electronics incorporated in all Maserati's. If you know cars, Italians suck at technology and gadgets, UConnect is welcomed. First Maserati though after a long list of BMW's, wanted a change and the Ghibli is sexy. When the warranty is up, I will go back to the M5. Germans know how to do cars right. Speaking of, lowly VW makes Porsche.

What kind of car you got that aftermarket Pioneer in?

I respect Maserati, they were one of the best things to happen to FCA :D Here in the St Louis, MO area we have 2 Maserati dealerships 30 miles apart. And a Lambo dealer.... and a Bentley dealer.... and a Tesla dealer.... and an Aston Martin dealer....within a 5 minute drive of each other.

The Pioneer W4660NEX is currently in my 2011 Chevrolet Cruze, but I might be getting rid of it and leasing a 2021 Jeep Wrangler in a couple months and will move it to there.

Ugh, I was wrong about the warning message being gone from the Pioneer. But it does go away a lot quicker than it did on my C2550NEX.

I was feeling brave and tried to up from 2020.08.27 via the head unit rather than a USB plug. It doesn't work, and the behaviour for me is this

USB drive plugged in when Carlinkit inserted into head unit - No power is supplied to the USB drive, Carplay doesn't start (light stays red).

USB drive plugged in after Carlinkit already inserted into head unit - Power is supplied to the USB drive but update is not performed. Carplay stays active.

I think this firmware just doesn't attempt to upgrade from USB on boot. Although it doesn't explain @shadowmyst1975 was able to fix.
Where can I download the latest updates manually? The newest one on mine is from like mid August and says it’s the latest update but I see posts of updates in September.

This adapter works perfectly on my honda with minimal lag bit does nothing on my Subaru.

Lowly? At least CarPlay is free on VWs. Ferrari charge $4200 for it. Hopefully Maserati charges less on the Ghibli.

I was being sarcastic. In that I mean who cares who the parent company is. I own a VW Tiguan. Great car. If I were to buy a Porsche or an Audi it would not matter that VW owner them or used VW tech or switches in them.

I just found out that I don't have the latest software - and the device is telling me that I have the latest saftware.

Can someone let me know how I can get access to the latest software and what I have to do to install it?

Thanks...

Sorry but it doesn't explain on several issues:

1) Do I pull that address on my computer or in the 192.168.100.2?

2) If I have to pull it from my computer, how do it install it into the device?

Directions on how to perform the manual update are posted on the first page in the very first post.

And if the device is telling you that you have the latest software installed, that means you have the latest software that has been released to the general public by the manufacturer (for better or worse). Any software updates released after that point have not been publicly released by the company and should only be installed if you know what you are doing and understand that there is a significant chance that your device will completely break with no one to blame.

I was thinking about the discussion we had had regarding the requirement of HU based GPS functionality to have wireless CarPlay. There were 2 things I have since found that I thought would be of interest to you.

1) Several people have reported that they have been able to use Wireless Carplay even though they have not attached the GPS antenna to their HU. I know this is not actually removing the GPS hardware but it does effectively disable a decent part of the functionality.

2) Pioneer at least has started to develop an assistant/alternative to physical GPS called 3D Calibration. Basically it calculates a 3D position based on the measured range of motion of the front tires in conjunction with a gyroscopic system in the head unit for altitude measurements based on the amount of vehicular tilt. The idea behind it is to assist in maintaining your mapped GPS location in areas where satellite signals can not be reliably obtained but I could see it being used in conjunction with a smartphone's GPS instead of requiring physical hardware. I fiddled with it a little bit last night with my W4400NEX head unit and it was amusing to watch the vehicle icon move as I would tilt the HU up and down.

I got the Carlinkit 2 from Amazon a couple of days ago, and it’s been working very well so far. I just plugged it in, and it launched into wireless CarPlay fairly quickly. I wish the cable wasn’t so short because the unit just hangs in the air, but I’m pleasantly surprised. I’m hesitant to update the firmware (if there’s a newer one available). I have a Kenwood excelon 9905s in a Jeep Wrangler. The Amazon description said the unit only works with Audi factory head units. 🤷‍♂️

ok, never mind, the connection drops frequently. Im not going to attempt a firmware update. I suspect it’s because the device hangs in the air (since the cable is ridiculously short) and possibly causes the usb connection to unseat. I’m going to return this thing to Amazon.

It could also be a compatibility issue with the Kenwood headunit. I have no idea though because I've never heard of anyone aside from you trying it with a Kenwood (or Alpine or Sony) HU. In any case, returning it would probably be the best thing to do.

I liked the idea of the dongle, especially in the Chevy Cruzes and the Jeep Wranglers - neither of which are well designed for aftermarket HUs. But as more and more modular assembly units and short chassis units are being created by companies, it just makes more sense to use them instead (unless you have a super expensive infotainment system factory installed to begin with of course).

Well, keep in mind that the reason Apple requires vehicle-provided GPS for wireless carplay is for a better end-user experience, not due to any technical limitation. The vehicle's GPS will almost definitely be more accurate, and using it greatly reduces the power demands on the paired iPhone.

So Apple "requires" vehicle-provided GPS for manufacturers to certify their Wireless Carplay implementations. Apple won't allow them to advertise Wireless CarPlay if they didn't implement Apple's spec.

But that doesn't mean that Apple would *prevent* CarPlay from using the phone's A-GPS in the absence of vehicle-provided GPS. On the contrary, Apple has every incentive to fall back to that because there are cases where the iPhone would provide better location data than the car would (like in a parking garage, for example).

Intuitively, it seems that CarPlay (both wired and wireless) has been designed to first look for a GPS signal from the vehicle, and in its absence fall back on the connected phone's GPS signal.

As for the Pioneer 3D Calibration thing, I think that's more to supplement its own GPS than to be used in lieu of it. GPS radios are cheap now--it is not a large cost for manufacturers to include it. I would think the 3D Calibration would be more for trying to get more accurate heading data, something that GPS alone can struggle with. That said, I've not looked into it myself. But I really doubt any head unit manufacturer would be looking at using it instead of a GPS chipset at this point.

i have a c-class 2019. i have tried upgrading manually to few different versions mentioned in this thread but nothing works. the LEDs are flashing for few sec then stop. the version doesnt change. tried different usb pendrives.

i have managed to update the fw from my carlinkit from 08.04 to 09.05 but the issue with the device crashing when running satnav (waze or google maps) and podcast or music is still present. does anyone know the version of software that doesnt crash when music and satnav are on at the same time? i have tried all the newest softwares after 09.05 but for some reason they dont want to flash.

How did you do to update it? Carlinkit doesn't start more after I had installed last fw. Can I reset it?

I have flashed each fw one by one starting from 08.04 via the pendrive. Managed now to flash to newest 09.17 but the issue with crashes is still there. I have noticed that there are settings when logging in via 50.2 address. What is the difference between sync-> normal and compatible and also does anyone know how to save the settings?

Don't know the difference, but settings are saved automatically upon changing value. These settings were useless in my case, I have the exact same problem if I am listening to music and using waze or any other navigation app, for now I just use one or the other, can't have them both running simultaneously.

Just to add, the device needs to be rebooted for setting changes to take effect.

I just got my adapter, carlinkit v2, from Aliexpress. All works good on MZ3 2020. I tested it for like 4 hours. The last updateable version is 08.04 .

Not all the cases the car's GPS is better than iPhone's. I don't know what chip car's GPS receiver is using? The newer apple iphones can pick up USA GPS, Gallieo, GLONASS, and probably the Chinese GPS satellites too. The more satellites the phone can see, the more accurate.

I don't know about wireless? my iPhone doesn't seem to use the car's GPS receiver. If I put my wired carplay phone in an odd orientation. The GPS signal will be lost.

I say that simply because cars use an external GPS antenna, so all else being equal, it's going to have an easier time picking up satellites than your tiny battery powered phone sitting in your pocket/purse/console. Perhaps technical advancements in the iPhone mitigate some or all of that, I dunno. But obviously Apple made the choice they did for a reason.

Vehicle-provided GPS is optional for Wired Carplay (as in, Apple doesn't require manufacturers to provide it). If the vehicle's GPS signal is not available to the iPhone it will default to its own GPS signal.

It's less important with wired carplay because the assumption is that the phone is being charged while it is plugged in. So the battery hit caused by the constant use of GPS is negligible.

Hi there!

After an Update I have done ~ 2 weeks ago I had the problem that the device seems dead.
No connection to my Seat Arona 2019s head unit, no led flashing, nothing...

So I tried to install multiple firmware versions:
2020-09-18 - red light flashes - no connection - wifi named autobox***
2020-09-17 - same as above
so I tried to install 2020-08-04 as it seems latest stock fw - but the f***n dongles wifi is still named autobox***...

wth?! It seems that the dongle is named wrong whenever you update to the newest version and stays so named when you downgrade...

I bought on Aliexpress and the seller will give no refund - thanks :)

Sorry for my bad english <- german

Are you absolutely positive that you have a U2W adapter? Carlinkit makes another type of adapter that looks similar/identical that is only meant to interface with an android tablet or head unit. Nevermind, sounds like you're saying the adapter used to work before updating the firmware. Maybe keep trying some of the other versions listed here: https://projects.grabher-industries.com/U2W/

If you're positive that you have a U2W then you should definitely reach out to sales@carlinkit.com and ask them about the autobox thing.
