Has anyone gotten CarPlay 2 air working with iPhone 12? Mine continues to keep trying to auto connect and it just never connects

Hey guys, just got my first Apple Watch. Noticed Siri was not working, meaning, she was having trouble etc on CarPlay. I think I recall somewhere in this thread issues with the watch and the dongle. It’s possible it was just down. Let me know if there are any known issues. Thanks.

Not yet.
If you restored it from your previous backup you might want to try to delete the dongle from your iPhones CarPlay devices and the iPhone from the dongle and then re-pair.
Possibly the iPhone thinks it's paired but the BT ID's won't match so the connection fails.

Got it all. Rebooted the dongle and phone. All back to normal now

Hello!
I just got my v2 device today, running on a Mazda CX-30. Initial connection was seamless and aside from some lag when changing songs on Spotify it seems like it's working pretty good.

First of all, thank you @VLud! Your work is amazing.

My device came with firmware 2020.07.18.2147 and when checking for updates it says I have the latest version.
I would like to try @VLud custom firmware, because I think disabling logs and enabling Performance for CPU scaling governor could bring a performance improvement.

What version do you recommend? I saw a post mentioning that I should first update to 2020.08.04 and then do an upgrade to 2020.09.23.
Is there a way I could backup the existing firmware and flash it back in case something when wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Update for VW owners. I previously noted my issues and inability to get v2 to work on a MK7 GLI with the 6.5” Composition Media head unit. Nothing except a red LED

I now have a MK7 GLI Autobahn with the 8” Composition Media screen. Voila’. Plugged it in and everything worked perfectly. Subsequent startups connect after 15 seconds. For whatever reason these work with one head unit but not the other.

Also, I ordered the ‘VW’ version of Carlinkit v2 which of course was $20 more expensive than the other 4 versions sold on Amazon. Does it make any difference and aren’t they all exactly the same exact HW/SW?

Lastly, mine came with firmware 07/17/2020 and showed as ‘latest.’
Thanks

I'm following along hoping to get my Honda Accord Touring to work
I have a 17 Accord Touring Coupe. My dongle is a Carplay2Air USB-A that I got in March. I recently did an over-the-air update to the 2020-08-04 firmware. The secret for me was to remove the Bluetooth pairing to the Accord. I also use it primarily to listen music from the Apple Music app, since I live in Vermont and the cellular connection can be spotty. If I need navigation, I use the Garmin navigation in my HU.

I have an Apple Watch have not noticed any issues with it that I am aware of. Siri is fussy at at times.. I wanted to provide a couple of tips in general

1. If you ever went to the update page for 192.168.50.2 update check page and chosen Open logs, don't foget to choose CLOSE LOGS and or upload them. I believe choosing Open logs without closing them forces the Carlinkit to collect data which we later hope to send to them to fix a problem. unfortunately logging itself in any system can create issues as well.

2. For those of you have noticed issues with Waze and Music (Apple or Amazon) running simultaneously causing spontaneous reboots I have noticed much less issues when I keep the music in the foreground instead of Waze. You still get pop up directions while your in music and can briefly switch back to waze as needed as long as you do not stay there.

I think the Siri is potentially related as well in that a lack of responsiveness can be because of the carlinkit system being overtaxed. Siri also does not like noise. You might want to roll the volume down on playback and or use if you have the Steering wheel mounted Voice/Siri button.

I went ahead and updated to @VLud 20200804 based firmware.
Everything went smooth, and I took the car for a 40 minute drive with Waze on the screen and Spotify playing in the background. So far, so good.
I talked a bit on the phone and it didn't feel laggy or anything (GSM by default has a little bit of lag, but as long as it's affecting everybody it doesn't make a difference).

Hello everyone.

First of all, this forum post is a gem in what concerns to these devices. I've been following it until now and I have now one of these CarLinkit v2 devices on my way from Amazon.

I have a Kia Proceed MY2020 with built-in Carplay (wired, of course). Has anyone tried out one of these devices with such a car/model and can share experience or which firmware version may work the best?

One more question about @VLud 's firmware - if we want to give it a try, will we be able to return back to stock firmware without issues? Is there a way to download a dump of the device prior to any custom firmware installation? If yes, can anyone share how to do it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I updated to 2020.08.04 than did the vlud 2020.09.23 and it seem to have worked for my wife cla250 and hour no rebooting

it rebooted once while using Waze and pandora but using stock radio with war was stable...well thanks for the hard work! is there any other way to free up more ram?

2020.09.23 works with the GPS from the car or with the GPS from the phone?
I saw some posts earlier about some September firmwares only using phone GPS.

You can return to stock without any issue.

It is probably possible to have a full backup on the USB Key with dd command but you have to install my custom firmware first anyway (I have to check differences between the dump from the chip and dump from dd). In case anything bad happens you will have to flash the chip using some hardware anyway so ...

I would recommend flashing 2020.08.04 based on previous reports because it is using the GPS Signal from the car rather than the one from the phone. But try them all if you have issues, Carlinkit binaries are expected to fix issues with specific manufacturer so ... I have a Peugeot (PSA Group) car and it works fine with all of them.

Thank you. It was just Siri being fussy. She is working fine with the exception of sending Map directions to to Maps. She just says "got it" but route guidance never starts. I assume this is an iOS14 issue.

I have tried 20200804 as well as September releases and it seems like for me
Google Maps is using the phone GPS and Apple Maps is using the car GPS.

Apart from that in any version I have issues with occasional audio stutters.

The most annoying issue I have is audio directions from both Apple and Google Maps being muted with no obvious reason. Sometimes right from the beginning sometimes in the middle of a drive. My headunit still switches to navigation mode and lowers the audio volume of Apple Music oder Podcasts but I don’t hear any directions. Plugging the adapter out and back in again solves the problem but I have to do this almost every drive which is quite inconvenient.

I have a Seat Leon 2019 with VW/Seat Navi System Plus Headunit

I went to stock 2020.08.04 to vlud 2020.09.23 and it’s been far more stable...it just seems like it get overloaded and reboots...it happened once using Pandora but has not rebooted since
My wife confirmed it froze for second but went fine so far and it’s a big improvement...

I use it in a Rio 2018, I imagine besides some UI-changes the firmwares of our vehicles infotainment should be pretty similar.
I am on 2020-08-29,

The only issues I encounter is that
1) during phone calls it often switches back to the vehicles infotainment (but the calls audio remains fine, and I can still hang up with the steering wheel, etc.) and
2) sometimes the screen remains black, despite the audio starting, when I first start the car. Hitting the media-key on the infotainment or steering wheel usually brings the CarPlay image after a few seconds (some people have reported similar behaviour on aftermarket Infotainments (Alpine, if I recall correctly)

Does anyone have a solution for the carlinkit randomly connecting to the wrong phone. I believe it's supposed to auto-connect to the phone most recently connected, but it often prefers to connect to my wife's phone. I'll start a journey with it connected to my phone, but after a stop (car off) the carlinkit connects to my wife's phone! I'm currently on 08/04, but behaviour was same with 9/23.

Hi,
I have the Car2play unit in my 2019 Silverado Gen 3. They replaced my unit, it took a while, but it started to play correctly after I got the new unit. After a few days, it only shows a solid red light. Tired all of the suggestions on here on how to get it to work. Other than VLud files. I'm not sure on how to do that manually and will this work on a car2play unit? If so, I can't seem to find the file and instructions for for car2play on my 2019 Silverado?
Thanks for any help
Jerry
