Trying to set up a new-from-box CarLinkIt 2.0 on a 2017 CR-V, which should be supported; get a red LED, but the headunit doesn't respond (no CarPlay prompt or anything) and there is no Bluetooth network for my phone to pair to (and no WiFi, either, as a result).

It is plugged into port 1, the one normally used for wired CarPlay.

A little further than the 100% DOA "refurb" I got from Amazon that's on its way back, but still frustrating.

Possible, though others with the same vehicle have had success. Hopefully @CarlinKit can help. Otherwise, if this thing doesn't start working in the next day or two, yet another return...

Thankfully, it's covered under amazon's extended holiday return policy, so I don't have to rush.

@VLud is it possible to ad a Linux (grub) boot delay to the carlinkit device with a custom rom? I saw in earlier post that someone added a hardware boot delay with a relay device. But I think I have narrowed it down for my Volkswagen that the carlinkit device boots a little bit to quick for the MIB2 car radio to catch up and get connected. If I open the car door, it does send power to the usb port to which carlinkit is connected, if I then immediately start the car connection between car radio and carlinkit goes wrong (carlinkit does not see the car radio). If I wait for the carlinkit device to power down after a minute or 2 when I have entered the car and then start the engine to power up the car radio and again the usb port of the connected carlinkit device, it goes well.

It should* work, I had used a CarLinkIt 2.0 on my 2017 Accord, i'm almost positive the radio is very similar. Mine would connect fine, i just had issues with it staying connected after using Waze or Google Maps.
I'm guessing you have another defective unit.

Is this the head unit you have?

My radio interface is very similar, if not the same - just the layout of your touch buttons on the left are different.
I ended up returning my Carlinkit 2.0 because I didn't have good luck with it with various firmwares. Although there are some people on here who have it working pretty good.

The actual software is Android (I can tell from the app page), though the interface varies slightly here and there. My husband's Insight also uses an Android OS and Garmin navigation but with a newer enclosure design and higher resolution. Honda does a lot of re-use between models, so I'm not sure why only some of the models using this type of system are supported.

If I can't get this one to work, I'll probably give Carplay2air a shot, though I wish it was as easy to obtain as these were.

Eventually, though, I do plan to get the hybrid CR-V (not available when I purchased this one). IfCarplay2Air fails, I'll likely wait til the next generation when hopefully wireless CarPlay will be a possibility along with the higher resolution screen. Then I won't have to deal with a bridge/dongle.

I think a future wireless-CarPlay CR-V is likely, since the 2021 Accord just got the CarPlay upgrade.

Dont do Carplay2air its made by Carlinkit. Carlinkit is the only manufacturer of sometimes private label versions of wired to wire carplay. Car2play only sells the older model anyway. They charge more and provide worse support. Firmware still comes from Carlinkit.

Do yourself a favor test the Carlinkit it another car anyones's car that is fairly new and known to work to establish if the devices works.

I don't have access to one at the moment (our other car is an Insight, which is not listed as compatible), but if there's a way I can test the unit with just straight USB power-in (from a USB adapter) to see if it's functioning, I can do that.

So any tips there are welcome.

That would be awesome!

Sorry if this is a noob question (183 pages is a lot to read through) but has anyone else gotten stuck with the stock firmware that came with it? I just set up mine up (Carlinkit 2.0 USB-C from Amazon and the web updater is showing 2020.07.28.1104 and that that is the latest version. I'm seeing from posts though that there were updates in August, September, and October. Any tips on how to force it to update?

If I am reading this correctly and you are saying that the headunit is running Android, then you probably have the wrong adapter. You would need the version specifically for Android based systems.

Come to think of it, I wonder how many other people with issues getting the adapter to work at all might have had the wrong one and actually needed the Android version.

There is an OTA update 2020.10.27.0148.

It was based on my feedback sent to Carlinkit support, specific for a Volkswagen Discover Media MIB2. The carlinkit dongle boots too quick (it powers on when the door is opened but the radio is not yet on) and as a result has a connection error with the car radio, and then I had to replug the device in the USB port to get it working (that is my understanding of the issue). I need to test more to see if it works with a really cold start. I do not mean the temperature of the car but more if the car has been idle for a longer period of time.

version 2020.09.23, the latest I received from Carlinkit, see my earlier post. Do not use the modified from Vlud.

Did you try the solution to put the firmware from my post onto an usb thumb drive and do the update manually instead of OTA. Maybe if you upgrade manually to the version from my post you can update OAT to the latest version

Been out of the loop. I have been running 8.04 for a while now. I’m hoping I’m not “stuck” on seeing later OTAs. Will try at lunch today.

I just flashed to 9.23 which is the latest available through the link on post #1. Hopefully it took and will then see the latest OTA updates. Will try on way home from work.

Where can one download this? The link on the first page goes to a blog post with a firmware from 2019, and the firmware section of the site requires some kind of log in.

see my post #4,411

and then there should be OTA available, I can't imagine that there is anything specific to my usb-c dongle. I receive the firmware from post 4,411 by email from Carlinkit and the one from post #4,564 is OTA.

The problem is that this is not working, so there is something related to your dongle type / id, can you reply to my PM ? It would help me find out how to get the image for everybody
