I added images on the repo there is an official rollback release (2020.08.04), then you can flash 2020.10.28

I also created a custom firmware based on this new version (2020.10.28), available here:

(Rollback to 2020.08.04 Custom FW or official before)

@VLud My Carlinkit CPC200-U2W-Plus is bricked after updating to the custom firmware. Now there is no light in the device.

Please guide me to recover the device.

Thank you very much.

Thank you flashed to 2020.08.04 as you mentioned then flashed to your custom 2020.11.06 FW so far working - only tested when parked had a few audio skips when using the phone but I think it’s more the phone (using a old 7 after selling 11) hopefully he ok when 12 arrives next Friday!

Did we ever fully work out the difference between the Sync Mode options Normal and Compatible? Noticed mine was in compatible dont remember setting that have changed it back and works.

I think no..

Just downloaded and flashed one of the custom firmware

Which one ? The latest one ? Which firmware were you using ?

Reminder: My modifications are too soft to brick a device, you would have had the same result flashing the official firmware directly. OTA update is flashing back 2020.08.04 before proposing this update, there must be a reason.

Hello everyone, I have one basic question. Sorry if it's repeated.

Are Carlinkit CPC200-U2W-Plus USB-C and Carplay2air using the same firmwares??

Just received an email from Carplay2air that they now support 2018 and newer Honda Accords.

I had one Carplay2air and it is used by my friend for his Hyundai Sonata. The carlinkit usb-c I have now is bricked.

Yes and it is also the same hardware, just a powered wifi antenna on the USB-C version.

@VLud - sorry but just to confirm/clarify - I already have your custom firmware flashed on my Carlink (the one based on 09.23.2020), do I need to flash it back to official 2020.08.04 and then upgrade it to your custom firmware(11.06.2020)

Or can I just straight flash it to your latest custom firmware(11.06.2020)?

@VLud Have you or anyone else noticed a performance improvement using the custom firmware over stock?

Since I got my adapter working finally, I’m considering staying on stock or staying on the custom 10.28.2020 indefinitely.

Don't take any useless risk without any flash backup, flash back 2020.08.04 (Official Rollback or Custom FW) then flash the latest Custom FW or Official

I managed to brick my Carlinkit V2 because my car went in economy mode during the update and cut down the USB power, I had a flash backup from my unit (unsoldered the flash chip to save it) so I managed to restore it without any issue, so here is a tip: Make the update with the engine running

Update on my saga: was able to plug into a USB power adapter and then connect to the device via WiFi (without trying Bluetooth) and so was able to update its firmware OTA -- so now I should have whatever the latest update for the v2 adapter is.

However, it still does not generate a Bluetooth device to connect to (but does create a WiFi network), and the head unit doesn't respond to it when plugged in. Connection light remains red.

Is connecting via WiFi but not Bluetooth normal for wireless CarPlay?

I've also sent an email to the "amazon support" address on the website, since I bought mine via Amazon. So either through this forum or through them, hopefully I'll eventually sort out what's going on.

So I have a 2019 accord touring and I just resurrected my original Carplay2air it had the original USB 8/04 update and I just updated to Ludwigs 10/28 file the devices flashed red/blue correctly and went solid red. I'll try tonight and see if it works in my car.

EDIT: updated to Ludwigs 10/28 and it works on my 2019 Honda Accord!. I do have a question. I deleted my bluetooth connection from my iphone to my car before I setup carplay. Can I reconnect my phone to my car's bluetooth?

I think some people found that removing the BT pairing with the car made the phone connect to the Carlinkit more reliably. No harm in trying it though if you want to.

Anyone with a Honda with one of the new infotainment systems (e.g. Honda Pilot 2020-2021)? They sport a version of Android that wasn’t supported a few months ago (I bought a CPLAY2Air and returned it for that reason), but I just got word from their support team that all Hondas are now supported, and before purchasing this again (and risking having to return it again), I’d rather hear from someone.

I’m the OP, and as many may know, I’ve got an original CarLinkIt unit, that has never ever worked for my car, a Vauxhall.

Tried everything, new updates via USB, tried in friends Marc once, worked fine in there. I’ve watched all vids I could, even contacted Vauxhall for any software updates to my car...

I’ve followed the thread always and kept up to date.

Well today, for no reason, I have the iPhone 12 now, and decide to try. Didn’t work on Bluetooth.

I then plugged in the lightning cable to the unit, never worked before, and couldn’t believe it but up it popped CarPlay

I then navigated around a bit, seemed ok, I then unplugged the cable and it worked!?!

Checked for an update (can’t remember what mines on currently), and said there was of 2020-10-28.1252 “improve performance and compatibility” didn’t update as was about to drive home.

Played with CarPlay on way home and all seemed to work, but then tried Apple Music, skipped a few tracks, and stopped, then all CarPlay hung wouldn’t do anything. Is this a common issue?

So I’ve no idea what’s happened different today, apart from new iPhone, I’ll try tomorrow to see if auto connects again.

Should I try the update? Is this a safe one to do? Is it common to crash?

How do you get the CarLinkIt interface up? I noticed my iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 listed, so would like to delete the iPhone 11 in case tries to connect to it and gets confused.

Also what do the LEDs mean, what should be the default working status, flashing blue?

What does the setting page do as well please? Sync mode, delay times etc. I’ll add this to first post as well

Sorry for long post, first in a while, but was great to see after 14 months of having it, see CarPlay on the screen!!

Hello.

What would you advise as less risky from a brick-perspective, to update to 2020-10-28? OTA or downloading the file and putting it to a USB?

I've read above that it's a good idea to have the car running while doing OTA update, any other tips&tricks to avoid ending up with a brick?

Thanks in advance, everyone.

The version being the same the risk is probably about equal assuming you take best case precautions on both sides. OTA make sure your car is running so power does not go off/vary in the middle with cars that have auto accessory power off and auto start stop. Wired update make sure you use a plain jain 5 or 10 watt charger brick not a mutli usb charger that attempts to vary charging voltage. When preparing usb stick you have to do fat 32 format and make sure its a small usb stick 8gb or leas. I have used 4s successfully. Anything in the 1, 2, 4, 8gb size should work(though people have had issues with their sticks being recognized). OTA is easier no prep work.

Either method be patient do not rush to take the device off power when it stops blinking wait up to 5 minutes. With OTA you will see a sucessful mesage after a few minutes and within a little while after that, probably less then a minute it will boot back up and show carplay symbol on your AV system. Since you do not need to remove the device for the OTA it is easier to be patient.

Latest OTA does not vary. OTA is what Carlinkit think works best with the most cars AV systems. They release lots of firmware by download links to customers that contact them for help and send them logs, etc. A lot of people here save all these versions and we have a "family" that supports each other.
I can confirm this. I got in touch with Carlinkit support through AliExpres an was redirected to a whatsapp account. I did some tests and supplied them with movies, pictures and log files. They were really supportive. In 3 days I received 2 new firmware updates. The latest one is now OTA available.
Specifically I discussed with them the timing issue. The carlinkit dongle boots faster than the car radio (volkswagen discover media MIB2 2016) and then it can't find the car radio.
My experience is that the new version is faster, within 30 seconds. Some times 'App connect' (VW specific interface app from radio to carplay) hangs before the carlinkit device is active, and I also saw some strange very slow carplay behaviour. The most commen issue is see is that the bluetooth pairing from carlinkit to phone takes a lot of time/or does not work if the phone was already paired to the car radio and carlink then needs to kick off the phone from car radio. So I removed the phone to car radio pairing on both sides and just use wireless carplay only through carlinkit.

I am happy with this release. This new version is what I expect from such a device to perform and what you might expect from a 95 Euro device.
