Did you both roll back the firmware using the options menu? Thats the only method that worked for me.
What is the options menu? I tried the OTA option that rolls it back to an august firmware. Also tried the usb option with several different firmwares dating several months back. Still does the reboots.

hi, so after my original carlinkit got bricked i have purchased another one this time the USB-C version. it came with the 08.04 FW. it works but im getting the same problem as on the previous version. waze and music hang the device when run simultaneously. it also often boots to the black screen (need to go back to the menu and choose apple car play and then it works).
can you tell me which is the most reliant FW i should be using? or shall i keep it as is for now?
I have a C-Class 2020

Mmmm this could be my issue, I have an automation than opens apple podcasts and then Waze, among other things.... I'll try and come back...

Which one are you using? Amazon one or cplayair or w/e it’s called.
I'm using a Carplay2air I bought 9 months ago. Finally released an update for it to work on my 2019 honda accord touring. So, I don't think it matters. If you need one I have a brand new one still in the plastic.

I have the Carlinkit USB C version.
I am at wits end with this. I just received my new usb c unit and it’s doing the exact same thing rebooting!!
I even tried resetting my iPhones network settings. I don’t have any trouble when I connect the iPhone directly wired to CarPlay (without the carlinkit).
The only other thing that I can think of is that the Toyota head unit update it itself recently. So frustrating...

That’s great to hear it’s finally working on the newer Accords. I have a 2018 so I might finally pick this up. I’ve been following this thread since the first post in hopes that one day it would support the Accord. Only took a few years and many firmware updates 😂

Having one issue after I upgraded from 10/28 to 11/10. When booting it still shows my old phone and then it shows both than finally connects. Seems a little slower than when i just had the old phone. I deleted the old phone from my iphone car play and the car carplay, but still shows up. Any ideas? Still works great

Press the reset button on the 192.168.50.2 interface and I think that deletes all and have to pair again.

I had 2 could never connect, tried this and it connected and can only see 1 in the interface.

The reset is hard to see but is there

Hello! I have a 2020 Mercedes CLA with MBUX. Purchased the Carlinkit 2.0. I upgraded via USB to the newest firmware (it blinked and everything, guess it worked). I used a USB-C to USB-C cable to connect it to the car. But no reaction. No LED whatsoever. Did I do s.th. wrong? Doesn‘t it work with such a cable or do I have to do sth differently?
Thanks in advance!

Thank you that did it. I would add that after you enter the 192.... address it showed I'm up to date, I had to click that white circle and it brought me to the settings page than I clicked reset

Hi all. Firstly, let just say, comprehensive thread!
I‘ve been looking at purchasing a carplay2air for a few weeks.

I know the short answer could be “read the whole thread” but after first 20 pages, I admit to skipping to last ten 😀

I have a 2017 Ford Galaxy U.K. so thats Ford Sync 3 With iphone car play.

Will likely be switching to a Citroen Grand SpaceTourer (new name for G Picasso) in next 12 months.

Found this after a bit of research...
https: // cplay2air. com/ (spaced as didn’t know if forum allowed direct links)

it’s the obvious question I assume...
Will it work directly out of the box?
Is it legit as at £96 that’s a good whack of cash. Happy to pay if is all verified by other users.

Appreciate you taking the time guys.

cheers
Chris M.

Strange maybe your cable? On my side, with the old FW, I get a message from MBUX to say the device was not compliant. With the latest FW it’s working directly

Ok thanks for the reply. Do You also use USB-C to USB-C or the original cable with an adapter?

Works perfectly in my Ford Focus ST with Sync 3.

@MrMister111 You’re my only hope! Your comprehensive firmware post got me this far!

I was hoping someone might help me please. When I received my Carplay2air dongle I plugged it and it wouldn’t generate a Bluetooth name to connect to, it was just blank. So I couldn’t connect to the dongle. I subsequently upgraded the firmware via USB and to my honest surprise, it worked flawlessly. Generated a bluetooth connection name based on my VW (Tiguan 2016) and successfully flipped over to wifi. Unplugging or turning the car off and on again brought me instantly back to the car play screen.

When I came back the next day, the dongle screen loaded but with a blank Bluetooth connection again and the search button is non-functional. It’s like it deleted the firmware once the car is totally powered down, it also does it if I leave it unplugged for enough time. I have also tried updating via USB, rolling back the driver via OTA update which also works perfectly and then upgrading via OTA to the latest firmware, that doesn’t stay either. If I want it to work, I have to add the firmware to the dongle again via USB and it operates perfectly. But I can’t do that every single day!

It just won’t stick when the car is off for over 5 minutes. Can anyone help please? It’s so frustrating to be within touching distance of this actually functioning as it should. ‘official’ support is silent and won’t return my email, so hopefully someone else can shed some light on what I need to do to fix this.

Thanks AlanPlum.
was it literally just plug and play?
What sort of delay is there please if you don’t mind me asking?
appreciate you taking time out to answer the newbie questions. Just, I see a lot of update issues and flashing, soldering etc...and at this moment in time, just want to plug something in and it works.

Hi guys I read myself through this amazing thread, which I have to say is the most complete support-post available for this Carlinkit/carplay adapters available on the web!

I drive a 2019 Maserati Levante with Android Auto - I tried 3 of those sticks and always only red light with no action on the car side. I treid everything - the only thing that helped was Ludvigs @VLud post.

I downgraded the sticks with the 2020.08.04 official rollback-release and then upgraded to the 2020.10.28 custom firmware of Ludwig.

Since then everything works perfect!

Many thanks again & keep up the great work!!
Mic.

I added images on the repo there is an official rollback release (2020.08.04), then you can flash 2020.10.28

I also created a custom firmware based on this new version (2020.10.28), available here:

(Rollback to 2020.08.04 Custom FW or official before)

What delay do you mean? It takes about 20 seconds to startup when powering up the car, but apart from that it works perfectly.

Im running the latest OTA firmware currently, but it’s never not worked for me on any firmware.

Has anyone figured out what the sync mode, sound quality, and media delay settings are for? I tried going to the carlinkit FAQ but it wasn't very helpful.

Also wanted to say that I just got mine and updated to the latest OTA 2020.11.10 firmware and it has been working great with my 2020 Toyota Rav4. The only issue is that occasionally it doesn't seem to start up and I have to unplug and replug it in to get it to work. But in its defense, same happened with my wired carplay too, so it's probably the Rav4's fault.

good question, I was wondering the same thing. Also, I feel the 10/28 file is more stable, than 11/10

Strange. Never heard anyone having this problem.

Can you connect to the 192.x address, the WiFi of the dongle and see what version it says, before and after the problem? Surely it can’t be rolling back to a different FW every time.

I can’t imagine that it’s changing the FW, so suppose that’s the first thing to check.

What about when it’s not working plugging a cable into the dongle to see if wired works?

Apart from either trying another FW, try the USB flash to get that, or using one of the custom FW to see if helps?

Other than that do a reset on the settings page of the dongle, and delete BT on phone and car and start afresh to see if helps.

Keep us posted! Mine worked after over a year, so there is hope...:eventually!

Thanks for getting back to me. I have tried most of those things, I guess I’m just going to have to try every firmware! I cannot connect to the dongle at all after the issue occurs, or the IP page. Where the Bluetooth network name usually shows up on a successful connection i.e. ‘VOLKSWAGEN-B4D7’ when it successfully connects, instead just displays a

‘—‘

or blank I suppose. Wired still works.

It is very strange, but I am going to carry on and walk in the footsteps of the thread you have pioneered and hopefully help other people learn what to do in this situation. Or, I’m going to get so frustrated I set it on fire and send it to the depths of my bin. Time will tell.

One thing is sure, this product is not ready for mass market, at all.

Mine would drop all the time, but I did manage to connect via the WiFi, not the BT, this brings up the settings page, at least try to connect to see the FW if you can. I had to keep refreshing and got it, even for a second, to screenshot the FW version. I did this to confirm my FW version I used via USB had worked.

Have you tried the custom FW? Some have had success with this.

Strange about error, haven’t seen anyone in thread with this. Have you deleted any normal BT contractions you have with car? I’ve only got the dongle and nothing else.

Don’t bin it, I tried and tried for over a year, since it’s starting working it’s been ok. I tried everything. Was about to pay for the software update on my car even. Would have been a few hundred pound, but was determined.

Support are no good, your correct it’s not ready for mass really, but knew that as it is a hack really. But once it works, and the most recent FW’s seem to have improved it for a lot of people.

I bought very early, and got a discount so was happy to keep in the hope one day would work.

I’m going to get around to loading the custom FW, it just updated to 11/10 when I first used it. I don’t even know which FW it was on when I got it 😂
