Just received the MMB (https://www.carplaymmb.com/products/mmb-wireless-apple-carplay-dongle-plus?ref=j4lnq6ddnovi) and installed in a Land Rover. Works beautifully so far... the best interface yet. Clean and very Apple-like. Plus, once setup, it boots right into CarPlay without that ugly connection screen of the CarLinkit firmware.

This one also can do screenmirroring (e.g. play YouTube). The only negative is that the "car manufactures icon" to get back to the infotainment screen is now 2 taps away. however, I setup a shortcut key on my steering wheel that breaks you out of the CarPlay quickly so that isn’t a huge issue versus the interface improvements.

Hello everybody, especially all the Mazda drivers with the first generation headunit of the mzd connect. I also suffered from the 30 seconds reboot problem with the carlinkit 2.0 adapter. After flashing many firmwares hoping to get better results my bluetooth connection bricked. The wired connection was still working but therefore nobody needs this dongle.

Today I recieved my variant of the MMB/Joyeauto CarPlay Dongle and can confirm that it also works flawlessly in my Mazda CX-5 from 2018!

Mavro gave a good summary. In addtion to that you will still be able to switch between Carplay and the regular infotainment with a long press on the physical home button near the knob (like before).

Boot time is not instant but I would say its on par with the carlinkit adapters (I guess 15-20 seconds). Without the in-between screen it really doesn't bother me.

There seems to be a very slight delay (visible lag) when you rotate the knob to switch apps or pages (sliding anmiation). But for me it looks like the same lag when using the regular infotainment. So maybe it has nothing to with the dongle itself. The touchscreen works perfectly, too.

One thing I have to find out: If there is an easy way to switch seamlessly between screen mirroring (personal hotspot) and carplay (bt & wifi).

If someone would like more information, feel free to contact me. I'm not sure about the forum rules, that's why I wont advertise my reseller but there is some price disparity for this device on aliexpress ("carplay media box", 1GB Ram, 8 GB Rom)

Thanks for bringing this topic to my mind. I learned a lot and I'll keep my fingers crossed that carlinkit will be able to develop a software solution for the reboot problem and that it is not the mazda hardware nor the dongle hardware which would make it impossible.

Thanks for the info!
Did you install the Custom FW from LVud?
I did some tests and the problem persists without Waze. I tried different settings from the carlinkit menu (background, start delay) but nothing solve the random issue I have when the Carplay start. On my side Carplay is starting on the Carplay dashboard view.
I'm using Lvud firmware currently. Official firmware doesn't seems worse by my test.

Carplay dashboard view with waze on the left seems more stable, anyway I removed waze from my carplay.

By my test, OTA seems some issue. You can probably try to reflash by flash drive from the beginning again. My sequency is: flash Aug official firmware at first, then flash Oct official firmware, then Nov official firmware, then Luvd Dec firmware.

But using flash drive to flash firmware could be more risky than OTA? Maybe more likely to brick it. Please be careful.

I found a review on yt:
. Seems to be sound delay and a small mirror sreen.

Ok did it (usb FW flash is quiet stable as soon as you do correctly ;-)).
Let’s see if it make a difference..

Ok still have the problem. I’m on FU2. If the next update from Carlinkit does not solve the problem, I will contact the support.

Quick question, anyone has experience with a dongle that works for the GMC Terrain? (Denali 2019)
Thanks,

Good review. The described sound delay happens even without an adapter in my car. Indeed, screen mirroring is not very practical at the moment if you want to use it in combination with carplay (Ver.201031= Ver.YYMMDD).

Option 1: wireless carplay with undisturbed auto connect once set up (switching to the headunit interface and back to carplay works really well with shortcuts. Unfortunately if you quit carplay to get back to the dongle interface, the device will reboot when you start carplay again).

Option 2: screen mirroring, a media usb-stick and BT Audio/Phone calls via the dongle interface. So you won't loose audio playback through the car's speaker but you have to interact with the phone a lot more which we all should avoid while driving.

Edit: newest firmware (Ver.201225) should fix the issue (link from videojochen, it's joyeauto firmware, so likely with different bootanimation). Did not test it yet. File isn't recognized. Waiting for update manual from seller. Probably just have to rename the update file. That was the point when switching between carlinkit (U2W) and joyeauto (U2W_ZYD) software.
Update:
Seller send me a new firmware (Ver.210106) as a zip file (#5173 reveal the full image). Can confirm that there is a small difference in system_version.ini within the update .zip (CP-21 = ABUPDATE_FOTA_DEVICE=107_mj_abr_ty; MMB = ABUPDATE_FOTA_DEVICE=107_mj_abr_zyd). This time I won't experiment with "cross flashing" the device because the adapter is working fine and I have no connection issues. Though chances are high that you can switch to joyeauto or stock firmware if you swap the *.ini files.
Will report back, when firmware update was successful. Update was successful (kept motor running, just to prevent powerloss). Lag and audio delay almost nonexistent (see #5183). New setting: Powermode for CarPlay which increases snappiness but then requieres additional reboot to get back to the dongle ui.
Unfortunately no changes in terms of switching between AirPlay/PhoneCast and CarPlay with my Mazda MZD Connect. At least one reboot when starting carplay form dongle ui. (about 20sec. / after cold start the whole infotainment takes about 40sec. to display wireless CarPlay).

Here is my summary about wireless carplay devices (personal expercience and "research", will be updated when firmware upgrade of the new dongle is successful):

#1a CPlay2Air
- maybe the first branded wireless carplay dongle with marketing for USA/Europe
- software developed over time through carlinkit developers (car support has improved in the last few months)
- auto connect and multi user approach (possibilty to switch phones during start up)
- soldered USB-A cable to connect to headunit
- software updates with care due to low memory of the hardware (128MB RAM, 10MB rootFS)
- medium price (130$)

#1b JoyeAuto Wireless Dongle (WJUC-0)
- software almost identical to #1a (more colorful welcome screen)
- hardware almost identical (USB-A only with 2 options to connect to the headunit: directly or short adapter cable)
- software updates with care due to low memory of the hardware (128MB RAM, 10MB or 12.5MB rootFS)
- good product description (homepage with manuals, software downloads, tech support)
- medium to high price (110$ - 165$)

#1c Carlinkit 2.0
- Carlinkit seems to be the producer of #1a & #1b (software and car support identical)
- "upgraded" hardware almost identical to #1a, #1b (possibilty to change the connection cable and use USB Type C)
- software updates with care due to low memory of the hardware (128MB, 12.5MB rootFS)
- low to medium price (80$ - 120$)

#2a JoyeAuto MMB (WJUC-1) / 2b Carplay Media Box (CP-21, X100, Z6 Plus)*
- upgraded hardware compared to #1a,b,c (1GB RAM, 8GB Storage)
- possibilty to change the connection cable and use USB Type A or C
- android UI as base system to enable follwing features:
- wireless carplay auto connect with one phone (no interruption during boot)
- multi user approach possible but requires reboot (every time when changing from android UI to carplay, Ver.201031, behavior still on Ver.210106)
- screen mirroring (personal hotspot or wifi hotspot required)
- using an usb stick to watch movies/listen to music without a mobile connection
- BT audio and phone calls without carplay or headunit interface
- support for more cars by default (at least my first gen. mzd connect headunit)
- medium to high price (100$ - 175$)
Options

1) auto_update_pkg.zip
zip file + system_version.ini with new firmware date (only version without the device number mentioned above)
--> Update will start automatically

2) update_pkg.zip
zip file + system_version.ini with new firmware date
--> Confirmation before update is requiered (pop up window)

3) flash tool and *.img file
See post #5173

#3 Play2Air**
- premium feel
- small package
- possibilty to change the connection cable and use USB Type A or C
- quick boot time normal boot time (dca78 #5172)
- very high price (349$)

#4 Android AI Box*
- replaces carplay with a full android UI and apps (Android 7.0 or 9.0)
- upgraded hardware compared to #1-3 (2 or 4 GB RAM, 16 or 32GB Storage)
- high to very high price (200$ - 320 $ depending on specs)

Things to consider & unsolved problems:
- boot time for all devices about 20 - 50 seconds (depending on headunit)
- a very slight media delay (comparable to original wireless carplay solutions)
- not every carplay capable headunit is still supported.
- possibility to brick devices during software updates (power supply?)
- limited guarantee

*different resellers with same hardware and minor software modifications. Have to find out the producer yet. It could be AudioSources.
**I don't know much about the specs.

Gute Bewertung.

# 2 JoyeAuto MMB / Carplay Media Box *

I got a C2Play Air for Xmas for my 2020 Lincoln (Sync 3). Installed great, connects every time, no problems there..BUT...anything to do with the phone it kicks out of CarPlay and back to SYNC3's voice commands and Siri integration. I've tried killing all bluetooth connections and phones connected to the car. If I'm in CarPlay and hit Messages, Siri comes on to say "what do you want to say" but gets cut off and booted out of CarPlay. It does reconnect in a minute or two, but I want to be able voice text via Car Play like I can when it's connected by cable.Any ideas? It seems you can't truly disconnect the factory hands free. Their support has tried via email, but with no luck. I hate the idea of restock fee and shipping back to China. Thoughts? Thank you!

Just Received the MMB Android CarPlay adapter. Works really well on my Jeep Wrangler Uconnect.

only problem I see so far that they have disabled the Bluetooth hardware on the dongle...can’t connect my Bluetooth OBD adapter.

hoping this being a full blown android (7.0) someone might create a new firmware to add additional functions and activate the Bluetooth Hardware.

I own a cx-5 mazda of 2018, I also have reboot every 30 seconds. I'm new here, but I read a firmware made by Vlud is the answer? Can someone tell me which firmware this is and where I can find this one. Thanks in advance!

Greetings from a lockdowned Holland

I found this video from Viseeo PLAY2AIR (uncut) that shows the full start time in a Mercedes with MBUX:

So it takes around 50sec to start.

I found a review on yt:
. Seems to be sound delay and a small mirror sreen.
the carplay adapter has inside a boot button to recovery flash system.img
the adapter name inside : ddbox107 MB vers 1.10 with allwinner h6 chipset with 1gb ram and 8gb rom
upload: flashtool and recovery.img from 06.01.2021 (Factory AS ) audiosource
1. install flashtool, 2. load h6 system.img 3. press and hold the boot button inside, 4. insert usb kabel and press flash file up to 100%
