So can we change back and forth between the blue UI and the red UI just by installing the correct firmware?
Hi,

The customer firmware disables logging, i think increases CPU (dont quote me on that) and allows custom scripts to be run on boot.

With that being said.

You can get a script to run OpenSSH which allows you to transfer files between the dongle and your computer.

You need to grab the ui.tar.gz file off the device and extract it and make the changes by actually editing the image files.

I have been working on a conversion from Red to blue with partial success.

I have a thread on Github listed above.

You may have a faulty dongle I think. I have the same car and same dongle as you. If I connect USB-C to USB-A, nothing happens. If I connect USB-C to USB-C (to the car's carplay port) then it works perfectly with the 02.02 firmware.
Which USB-C to USB-C cable do you use exactly?

My £20 Amazon units work fine, sounds like the £30 is the same.
I just received the £30 version today; identical to my CarlinkIt 2.0 except unbranded. It updated OTA to (I think) the March firmware and works perfectly. The seller had eight and they sold out quickly.

Apologies but I'm confused.
Where did the AUTOKIT UI come from?
It says it's for Carlinkit v2 devices but isn't any dongle that uses the USB-C cable a v2 device?
That's what I have and I've done every OTA update released and I'm still on the old UI with the blue bar at the bottom of the Startup screen.
Is it safe for me to install one of the AUTOKIT firmwares or not?

Prob same as my £20! Is your connecting screen more red now though than the original CarLinkIt?

Wonder why, wonder who this maker is, exactly same instructions, box and everything seems.

If leave the connecting screen on, and press settings it shows a few bits. I’ve unticked “save log” as heard uses some memory in case, hope that’s ok.

Any USB-C to USB-C should work. I initially used my ipad pro's USB-C cable which worked fine, but I wanted one with black colour so I ordered another one on eBay https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-Typ...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 and it works fine too.

The only thing to watch out for is the dongle's USB-C plug is quite small, I had some USB-C cables with a thicker plug which didn't fit in that plug, so make sure you use look for one with the slimmer plugs.

I tried my Original Apple USB-C to USB-C cable but same problem. It doesn't work and no light on the Carlinkit.

The only way how it works is with the standard Carlinkit cable from the box and an USB-A to USB-C adapter.

Just the same black background with sort of light blue fields. No red to be seen, and with the black screen that I have come to expect on my Mercedes (NTG5.5 or maybe 5.6 now) until I upgraded the firmware, then reliable as usual. After that quickly boxed back up after I had deleted my phone. It is a spare, after all and still in its plastic coat 😀 (thinking more gift than resale, sorry)

Ah ok strange then all these different “connecting screens”

I’ll take a screenshot tomorrow, if you could also. So even though the actual OTA server is the same, the date of the firmware is the same, there is some differences on these cheaper versions for the CarLinkIt v2.....

I am working on a Matching Blue CarPlay UI.

I have incorporated various Elements and images from the Original Car Play into the Home Screen.

I am stuck trying to find where the “Settings” Menu is getting data can anyone help?

it doesn’t appear to be in ui.tar.gz and I have check everywhere else. It must be somewhere.

Here is some progress I have made on the UI

Hello does anyone know how to solve the disconnection problems with the Carlinkit 2.0? The initial connection works but after 5-10 minutes of driving it will disconnect and my display in my car will go blank. I just updated the firmware recently so I think I’m running the latest firmware. My car is a 2018 Honda Accord touring and my phone I’m using it with is an iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Screenshot - no different from my CarlinkIt 2.0 except that I run that in background mode so startup and entry into CarPlay is cleaner.

Strange. Here’s mine below. This was the £20 Amazon UK one. OTA of same version 2021-03-06 as well.

Background mode doesn’t work on my car, sometimes doesn’t show CarPlay icon and have to push the projection button then works. Rather it did though as not bothered on the connecting screen. Not sure why a lot of people above want to flash different versions of this and that just to change the colour of a screen that, at worst you see for 1s before CarPlay.

I just tried to upgrade my 2.0 to the newest firmware OTA. At the end there was an error "Update failed". Now I have a screen "Hardware Error: Wifi". Unfortunately the device recognizes no plugged in USD Drives. I tried different ones, but even before the upgrade there was no possibility to upgrade via USB.
Can someone help me with that?

You get it full screen on your Mercedes? mbux?
NTG5.5 in a new C Class - new as in manufactured December 2020. The online Owners Manual would have me believe that it should be running MBUX, but it definitely is classic COMAND. Yes, full screen width on 10.25 inch display, giving five icons wide in the CarPlay display. Here is a previous example:

Have you ensured that your USB drive is formatted FAT32?

Maybe your filesystem on the device is corrupted?

@VLud on this forum maintains the customised version of the firmware and has detailed knowledge of the filesystem setup; hopefully he or someone can advise on how to recover the device.

Got it to start up with cable connected in Car. But when I plug off the cable there is the problem with WiFi screen. Seems to be WiFi-corrupted.
i think would i be able to re-flash via USB it should be back. But the sticks are not accepted. Actually I’m on the screen for „Connection“ and connected via Bluetooth. The IP Adress is only available via Wifi 🤔

Anyone with Golf MK7 who can fast-forward songs by holding down buttons on steering wheel? It does not work with Carlinkit 2 with latest firmware, for me. @CarlinKit can this be fixed? :)

Btw, this works perfectly fine with Wired CarPlay.

I had not realised that your device is not completely bricked. Just a thought: some people have problems with updating and clearing the web browser cache before connecting over wifi always helps. Worth a try to clear your cache, reconnect and try again to update?

Nice thought. Problem is that the Update Page is only available via WiFi and the Module quit working with WiFi, so I am unable to connect to it 😀

The best way would be by USB. Don’t know why none of my drives will be accepted. 3 Drives, 3 different sizes. Tried via macOS and Windows. The Device didn’t recognize them.

Sorry for my bad English, I’m from Germany 😁
