I’m happy to do more testing - is it when you press the voice button on the steering wheel it crashes or when you hold down the home button on car play / tap a field which activates Siri? Wonder if it’s a software difference between U.K. and US sync builds
A single press or a long press with both crash the Carlinkit. It makes it almost pointless to have. The last version of the FW where it worked was the August 2020 update.

FWIW I "accidentally" flashed over to joyeauto (the original joyeauto firmware from late august 2020) and happily stayed on that fw all fall and winter. Just a couple weeks ago I decided to check for an update via 192.168.50.2. It offered me a firmware from December 2020 which I installed. Not as happy with it--it sometimes has trouble connecting to my phone if my phone is still on a WiFi network (home or work). No issues if I'm out running errands or somewhere else I'm not on a WiFi network. Been busy with other things so haven't looked into flashing forward or back.

The reason I bring it up though is that I've got a 2017 Ford C-Max Energi with Sync3 (It's a US vehicle) and I have not seen the Siri crashing bug with either the August or December joyeauto firmwares. So I don't know if the issue doesn't exist with that firmware branch, or if it only manifests with >December 2020 builds or what. Just adding that data point if someone is looking for other firmware to try on their Fords.

My original FW was 12.25 with the AUTOKIT look (came on the device that way) and the steering wheel problem was already happening. However, when I flashed to the August FW it works just fine. I have a Model Year 2021...but I don't think that's the issue since older FW works fine and newer FW does not.

I'm on the Carlinkkit 2 in a Ford f150 with Sync 3.4 latest build and latest build from Vlud, IOS 14.4 and Siri is and has been flawless. Just update to IOS14.5 Beta 3 and still good for me.

It's very weird why this would affect some vehicles and not others. I'm running iOS 14.4 as well and the latest official build of Sync 3.4 (20282) in my Bronco Sport.

I know this doesn't help, but it also affects me and my 2020 Explorer with Sync 3.4.

I've tried all the firmwares between August and the latest March, and they all do the same thing. CarLinKit suggested to put the unit into Compatible mode, but that didn't work at all. Still the same problem.

The August firmware works, but it does have it's own set of issues.

So it happens when I use the voice control button on the steering wheel to activate Siri OR when there's an action that utilizes Siri -- so for example, I receive a text message -- when I select it, and Siri would read the message and ask if I would like to reply. Both of these actions would result in CarPlay crashing/rebooting.

From what I've seen in this thread, the bug effects the 2020 Escape, the 2020 Explorer and the 2021 Bronco Sport. Presumably running on the same Sync 3.4. Just a thought... and it may not matter, but does your Explorer have built-in Nav? I know Ford does treat those Sync systems differently (My Bronco Sport has built-in Nav... wondering if there's a similarity here.)

Just tried on mine and all them actions do work without crashing the device. It’s a 2020 registered Ford Focus and does have built in nav too if that helps.

Are you in the UK or US? I think that might also be a variable that matters (for some reason).

Built-in Nav in the US. They are different software loads I believe too.

All of you with this problem should band together and send emails + upload logs to Carlinkit. I think that if they see a bunch of bug reports about the same problem come in at the same time they'll be more likely to prioritize it.

I’ve sent in several through the web interface of the device and emails on their site. They never reply or acknowledge. I don’t think they’re interested in fixing it.

But that was my point. One person repeatedly sending logs or emails is not as effective as 3-4 different people sending logs and emails at the same time. Make Carlinkit see that this is not just an isolated issue.

That's why I suggested those of your having this Siri problem should coordinate your efforts.

For those who don't know, their email address is sales@carlinkit.com, and the method to upload logs is to connect to 192.168.50.2 from your phone while connected to CarPlay. If you want to be even more effective (keep in mind there is a language barrier at play here), take a video using another iPhone/iPad/whatever showing you pressing the steering wheel button and the resulting crash.

Good luck!

Still working on a clean UI.

firstly I have only been working on a 1920x720 resolution.

I’ve created blue images to match the light blue in CarPlay.

I have managed to move elements and resize and reposition by finally cleaning up the UI CONFIG and putting it into readable format that actually makes sense.

I have minor adjustments to make on the 1920x720 screen.

I still need to replace the font with CarPlay Offical font just looking for an app to do this.

unfortunately the size of the icons is hard coded for example the settings icon. I tried to use a bigger icon and it just would not work so I was stuck with that limitation.

I have removed all languages and hard wrote into the code the language.

by tomorrow I am expecting to have the 3 things completed and can show screenshots to whoever is interested.

once done I will check the other resolution.

Which version do we need to have on our device in order to install this when its ready?

Well it will only support 1920x720 resolution unless I update it for the smaller.

I used the AutoKit custom firmware. Version looks irrelevant but i suggest feb or March

You don't need to see the Carplay Wifi.
As long as you can connect to the Carplay bluetooth it should do the rest of the configuration behind the scenes.
You should try forgetting the Carplay device and your car stereo from your phone's bluetooth settings and start the pairing process over again.
