I just tried to upgrade my 2.0 to the newest firmware OTA. At the end there was an error "Update failed". Now I have a screen "Hardware Error: Wifi". Unfortunately the device recognizes no plugged in USD Drives. I tried different ones, but even before the upgrade there was no possibility to upgrade via USB.
Can someone help me with that?
I'm having this same issue on a carplay2air purchased in January 2020, result of the update. Since we can't downgrade anymore because of the repo, basically we now have a bricked device because @CarlinKit decided to block the repo....

@Kevbert, @DamEngineer: 💡 idea - humour me - what happens if you put your phones in Flight Mode before you start up the dongle?
I've turned off bluetooth and wifi on my phone. It is something on the dongle end, it goes straight to that hardware error: wifi and I cannot do anything to stop it from going there. I try pressing the buttons when it is on the bluetooth screen as it is booting up before it goes to that error screen and it doesn't respond and eventually goes back to that error.

So the dongle does boot up, that's good. Have a look back at post # 4,803 on page 193 of this thread here. I am wondering if the report of hardware error BT or Wi-Fi is not reporting a hardware fault in the dongle but a connection failure.

So....
  1. Can you see the dongle on Bluetooth?
  2. Is your phone listed on the startup screen of the dongle?
When on one update the language switched from English to Chinese, and another time when I changed my iPhone and wanted to delete the old one, I had great difficulty using the car buttons to select the buttons I wanted on the display. It took persistence and many repeated tries to get it right, so my point is that the dongle may seem unresponsive to the car buttons but patience may pay off. Incidentally, to delete a phone in the list you have to make a long press.

If you or @Kevbert can manage to delete your phone from the dongle, and the dongle AND your car stereo from your phone Bluetooth lists, maybe there is an outside chance that you manage to reset the connection and restore the functionality.

So I played with it some more. Long presses do nothing and it doesn’t respond to anything for the few seconds it is on that screen.

I did try plugging in wired to the box. It goes to the connecting screen but never connects. Left it on for a few minutes. If I hit cancel, it goes back to the screen where I can add and delete phones. It does not delete phones no matter how many times I click delete through the long press. I cannot try to connect to phones either by pressing once on them. I cannot search for new phones, doesn’t pull any up. I can add new phones through wired, but they don’t work either. Once they are added, they cannot be deleted. I can change language.

since it never connects, it won’t load 192.168.50.2

@DamEngineer (and @Kevbert ) I would like to call this progress, of a sort - at least you have the basic screen. Maybe someone here can offer further advice if you post your version number that is displayed on the screen, and identify your car.

FWIW I heard back from Carlinkit support and they referred me to some other support email address that’s @qq.com since I got it from Amazon. Spoiler alert, I had emailed that address about two weeks ago and never heard back. Safe to say we’re on our own here @CarlinKit obviously doesn’t care after the sale.

so far I have only put together the 1920x720 size and will probably look at the other size soon.

not sure what size the Ford Sync is using but I can put something together for that resolution as well.

-all buttons and list boxes change color when selected to blue car play color

- inactive buttons are grey

- the Mac progress wheel does actually spin when connecting to your device or searching for bluetooth

- offical SF Pro Apple font being used, had to manually hack apart their .otf a straight swap won’t cut it.

- images were a real pain it took me 2 days to realize that they need to be in 32bit png and if they are even 1px bigger then they get distorted/scrambled.

-moved Bluetooth Name to settings screen - (I mean it’s there if you need it, don’t need to see it everyday)

- fixed back and settings icons through a hacky job but got around that limitation

-this theme replaced the red theme, I believe I installed AutoKit.

-it won’t work for people on the blue screen, you will need to switch to AutoKit firmware

-took exactly 1 week to master and learn whatever crappy coding language this is.l and probably over 100 trips the car.

i may tweak a few things tomorrow

-thinking about making logo + CarPlay in black

-redesign the search button on the top
Right of devices found screen

-and there’s a bug that the back button is missing on the searching screen and settings screen which I will check tomorrow.

Fantastic job!!!

Is it the green bar you want to replace by black? Seeing from the shot, it doesn’t look Apple usual color but it’s maybe only the way the shot are rendered.

Crappy coding language? No way 😁

How can we test it?

There’s no green bars, colours used are from offical CarPlay UI. The colours match this in real life. It’s just the camera/lighting/glare etc.

Will finish it off tomorrow hopefully. But it will only work on big screens running at 1920x720 the smaller ones won’t work till I code it in.

Ahhh indeed far better 👍👍👍
Thanks a lot for all your hard work on this.

Checked on my side, Mercedes MBUX is using the 1920*720.

You don't need to see the Carplay Wifi.
As long as you can connect to the Carplay bluetooth it should do the rest of the configuration behind the scenes.
You should try forgetting the Carplay device and your car stereo from your phone's bluetooth settings and start the pairing process over again.
thank you but i already did everything

one thing i want to try is there any way to restore carplay2air to facatory default?

I received my first dongle exactly one year ago. First, connecting to the infotainment system was a hit and miss. After some update, they introduced a start-up delay. That completely fixed my connection issue. Unfortunately, the mic issue (not picking up anything) that I had since the beginning, stayed. I installed the 06.03.2021 update a couple of days ago to no reveil. The mic issue stayed and the dongle began crashing after a few minutes. Therefore, today I wanted to rollback via USB to the software that was stable for me: 2020.12.10.1057. No mic was the only downside..

I had put the file on the USB I've used a couple of times earlier and plugged it in, but the software was not installing. I thought, maybe I can use the downgrade option on the unit itself and then update via USB. The downgrade went fine. But when I went back to 192.168.50.2 I saw the update log and I mentioned a major difference (for me) to the update log from the update log a couple of days ago:

- Fix some bugs
- Fix disconnection issue on MAZDA
- Fix mic issue on some cars

I've updated the dongle, plugged it in the car, and surprisingly: IT WORKED! Now I am able to fully use the dongle and not having to unplug it when a phone call comes in, and use bluetooth instead.

The strange thing is, I made a screenshot of the update log a few days ago and the update log today. Version and size is exactly the same: 2021.03.06.1343, size 8.58MB. Hopefully this version is as stable as 2020.12.10.1057. I will come back in a few days to report about the stability.

Well it’s here, thoughts?

Excuse the quality as obviously I can’t take a screenshot, so colours may look slightly off but they are all pulled from the direct from the offical CarPlay OS.

it’s too bad I can’t customize the settings list, still waiting on anyone who had any ideas. I would like to remove Language and the last 2 items in the list.

Carlinkit should just hire you. Really nice work! I've been happy enough with the Joyeauto screens but would definitely switch to this if you end up making one that works on Ford Sync 3.

I tried looking for resolution info for the 8" screen in Fords without too much luck. I found some info saying it's 1920x1080 but haven't confirmed from any official source. If anyone knows for sure please post here.

Updated: MBUX car play is actually 1280*720. So will have to wait for lower res support.

Hi,
Sorry for late reply. I’ve had connection a few times when I have connected my iPhone 12 Pro via genuine lightning plug. I’m not able to delete the phone from the settings list because nothings happens as i press „Clear Pair list“ on the Screen.
I also contacted the seller on AliExpress and @CarlinKit (they ignored my mails, too). The seller wanted me to do some videos, I’ve sent them 2 but no answer by now.
My screen is the following (Seat Leon 5F with MIB2STD Unit.
@DamEngineer Is your dongle even not recognizing any usb stick? Did you tried that already? Sorry if I missed it in this thread.

I tried a few USB sticks, none of them worked either. I’m not sure if I am doing correctly or if my USB sticks will work. I am using Rufus on windows to put them into fat32. What’s the correct file name for the original carplay2air? I tried all of them with no success, just a solid red light.

how do you get to that setup screen?
