CarPlay CarPlay adapter to convert to wireless CarPlay?

it be nice if $100 worked any better ...
i got it from "Carlinkit Store" and its the one will not start in the morning have to re-plug it 2-3 times' to get to work
Carlinkit told me it was my car and it will get better with update ...(it did not) I traced it to WiFi and Bluetooth chip not starting - no signal )
yet $60 and $30 one starting just fine..

I don't think I even bought the original one the first time and spent $100+ on it. Who is the original inventor lol? There are several versions out there at that price tag. Oh I did spend the money the first time and their update process broke my product and they refuse to support the product that their process broke in the first place and don't even want to guide me through fixing it. So if you want to give lectures, I suggest starting with the support staff for this company. Supporting a product you produce tends to make people repeat buyers.

yes, I tried with 4 names

U2W_Update.img

U2W_AUTOKIT_Update.img

U2W_SYD_Update.img

U2W_ZYD_Update.img

I tried saving one file each or all four in usb formatted with FAT32.

I heard from reseller that firmware downgrade is impossible, so upgrade to same or higher version. I wonder if it is true.

anyway, i don't remember the current version.
 
Thanks for contributions so far to the Issue Log - we have data from 10 users. There seem to be two consistent problems for some users, whilst others have zero problems and speaking for myself this version is the best so far.

That said, the problems are:
  1. WiFi connection does not complete - Hardware Error WiFi, which can either mean that the WiFi of the adapter is not functioning OR that it cannot make a connection with the iPhone.
  2. Impossible to update from USB.
For the affected users this means that their adapter is effectively bricked, but I choose to remain optimistic that there could be a solution otherwise the dongle would be completely unresponsive.

Can people with the Hardware Error WiFi please check if the wifi network is in fact being advertised by the dongle and report back - you might need to search with a second device if you have another phone or tablet available.

From my side I can say that the device is not sending any WiFi. Bluetooth I can see and connect with but it isn’t changing anything.
Will charge my iPad and check if there’s any WiFi with another device, but I don’t think so.

Maybe this is also useful. I recorded two short clips for the seller (he wanted me to to that to send it to the engineers).

have you tried "force rebooting" your iPhone, not he regular phone reboot, but forced reboot . then try to see if you get a successful connection?

The way I see rollback are locked to specific version only
Looks like
red UI (last update 2021.02.05.2216) rollback locked to 2021.01.08.1310
green UI (last update 2021.03.06.1343) rollback locked to 2021.11.10.2138

1. I cannot fast-forward with by long pressing the steering wheel buttons.
2. Your dongle seem to hover by itself 2 icons to right side when I come back to CarPlay screen after headunit-menus. For example when I reverse my car, reverse-camera get on, then it goes off. When going back to CarPlay screen it hovers icons and switches next icon to the right side.

This happens on a Golf MK7, its one of the most popular cars in the world. If this dongle cannot work properly in a Golf, where is it supposed to work??? Why arent you actually start helping people? I hope you can answer some questions in this thread now...

Just realized I can’t long press to fast forward or rewind my Apple Music while on CarPlay. Running the March 2021 firmware. Not a big deal tho since everything else seems to work great.
 
CarPlay Replacement UI is done, it took me about 12 days @ 8 hours per day to create the images, decipher the code. It was a real PITA but I find these types of challenges fun, like some people would find amusement with puzzles.

It supports 800x400 and 1920x720 fully.

It only works on the U2W 2.0 DONGLE with the RED UI. If you don't have it you need to flash to the Custom AUTOKIT FW.

I created an install script and roll back script.

Is anyone interested?

The colors may look a bit off in the screenshot below because I had to take a picture of the screen but the colors were pulled directly from the official CarPlay UI and match when you look in person.

Make a pull request on the repo to be listed as a contributor, you can also put your findings of the UI script on the repo, could help others :D

I made some adjustments to the 1280x720 version, so it can be compatible - it would be nice if we could get it working for this resolution.

The 800x480 and 1920x720 is solid and polished.

I don't have a car with a 1280x720 so anyone willing to help would be nice. DM me.

@VLud First, thank you for the custom firmware.
I got a cheap adapter from Amazon the other day with green UI. Successfully converted it to the red UI with VLud's custom firmware.
The original firmware was updated to 2021.3.6 as soon as I got it. I used the fallback in the 192.168.50.2 to get it back to the 2020.11.10
Then I use the USB and Wall charger and applied the 2020.11.10 custom firmware, good, reboot
Applied the 2020.12.10 custom firmware, good, reboot
Applied the 2021.01.28 custom firmware, good, reboot
Used the U2W.sh file to verify the partition size, 12MB, good
Applied the 2021.02.02 custom AUTOKIT firmware by rename it to U2W_Update.img, good, reboot
Renamed the 2021.03.06 custom AUTOKIT firmware to U2W_Update.img........did not work
Applied the 2021.03.06 custom AUTOKIT firmware with the filename U2W_AUTOKIT_update.img, good, reboot
Took the dongle to my car and had a short 20 minutes drive. All good with the red UI.

so i have been having connection issues the past couple of weeks with my cplay2air. i messaged the company on their website and they instructed me to update to 2021 3.06. I did that via USB and everything seemed normal. now plugging into my care i get Hardware Error: Wi-Fi BT. am a screwed? of course now they aren't replying to my emails
