I did that via USB and everything seemed normal. now plugging into my care i get Hardware Error: Wi-Fi BT. am a screwed? of course now they aren't replying to my emails
congrats, weclome to the club, yeah they broke their device and now we are all screwed

wow what a waste of $130. i have only had this since Christmas. i guess the product was too good to be true. i new it was a long shot buying something from a Chinese company but was not expecting this.

Before I had my Carlinkit working with my Sony AX5000 I was able to test different firmwares on an Android tablet.

It was connected to a 10w USB power adapter, through a USB power inserter and a micro-USB OTG cable to the Nexus 7.

Might be an idea for the guys working on the updated native-looking UI (instead of running out to your car to always test the graphics).

Please consider updating the Issue Log (link in my signature). No one yet understands why this update 2021-03-06 breaks some and works well for others...

It worked and updated fine before this update, but this most recent update changed a lot of things to block people on this forum modifying the firmware. God knows what happened though.

Good idea, but we job is almost done.

I will preface this by saying that my day job is in IT, but it is a very long time ago indeed that I did anything close to programming or dissecting code. Also, I used to know my way around Unix - before Linux! - and I am not very strong in hardware.

This said, an immediate difference that I can see between the 2021.02.02 and 2021.03.06 images is that the 2021.03.06 contains a package labelled bcm4354_rootfs.tar.gz. Now the BCM4354 is a Broadcom chip containing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, datasheet here and note that this division of Broadcom was acquired by Cypress, hence the name in the link.

I have the competence but not yet the time to try to figure out if there is a different wireless device driver available in either of the images...

Question, probably to @VLud and @TireGuy6 who are working with images: is this driver significant? Could it make for a problem for hardware that contains a different wireless chip? Could this be blocking booting from USB? Or am I just barking up the wrong tree?

I am stubbornly maintaining that there is a solution to fix the problems of 2021.03.06.1343 for those affected, if we can just find it. I would also comment that there is not inherently anything wrong with products designed, built and sent from China (where do you think your iPhones come from?), whether you bought them from Apple or Aliexpress. I do agree that it is so far disappointing that @CarlinKit has not responded recently.

Brilliant! This setup will come in real handy...

I have only been working with the user interface file which is separate from main OS/DRIVERS.

I can't help in this area.

However, people that have upgraded, can't you just downgrade? or are you on STOCK OS?

If the manufacturer wont help, order another and send her back!

I just got thing, I ordered after seeing a post about this working with my car (Subaru Crosstrek), then as soon as I hit buy, 😆, I started reading negative posts. Of course it didn't work, contacted their CS after several hours, I did the download and it actually works, but I've read that others did the same and they also bricked their device. I just hope it keeps working cause I don't think I could go back to a wired connection.

Wait until you see the new theme i'm working on, ETA tomorrow.

We can roll back custom firmware.

The issue is that I think these users having trouble can’t roll back back because they are not on custom firmware.

anyone having this issue have you checked the settings in 192.169.50.2 to see if there is a roll back option?

I upgraded to the March stock version but wanted custom so I went into the settings and was able to roll back to November 2020 and then upgraded to Feb Custom FW then to March Custom and then rolled back to Feb custom again.

Furthermore, this is a software issue not a hardware failure. I think it’s trying to intialize the wifi card and failing. This is most likely the driver.

the only fix will be a USB update to a new version and I think if you are on a stock version you can’t. UNLESS..... we have a custom firmware with a higher version #, plug it in and upgrade the dongle to a new version with the old Broadcom DRIVER.

And now. We can’t rollback (stock 2021.03.06)

CarPlay Replacement UI is done, it took me about 12 days @ 8 hours per day to create the images, decipher the code. It was a real PITA but I find these types of challenges fun, like some people would find amusement with puzzles.

It supports 800x400 and 1920x720 fully.

It only works on the U2W 2.0 DONGLE with the RED UI. If you don't have it you need to flash to the Custom AUTOKIT FW.

I created an install script and roll back script.

Is anyone interested?

The colors may look a bit off in the screenshot below because I had to take a picture of the screen but the colors were pulled directly from the official CarPlay UI and match when you look in person.
Hi TireGuy6, well done on your UI work! It looks great :) Just wondering how do we install these themes?

As long as you have AUTOKIT Custom FW installed with the RED UI - you are good to go. I will be releasing a link later today on GitHUB.

It will have full compatibility with: 1920x720 1280x720 and 800x480 screens.

I am working with @dca78 to finish the 1280x720 and it will be good to go.

The installation will be a script.

1) Copy new UI to USB
2) Copy Install Script to USB and plug into dongle

During install the original UI will be copied to the USB from the dongle.

To Revert:

1) Keep old UI file on USB
2) Copy over uninstall script and plug into dongle.
