These are for Android Head units only, not compatible with factory fitted Apple CarPlay. Not a new product. Will NOT work unless you can install their Android app to the Head unit.

It would appear 'carlinkitcarplay.com' is the English-language version. The original 'carlinkit.com' is the Chinese version of the website.

I purchased a U2W May 20'. Worked great with my 2020 Toyota Corolla. I don't know which firmware I was on... I unfortunately decided to do an OTA update to 11-10-20 which now causes the dongle to restart every 30 seconds while CarPlay is running...

I tried downgrading to 8-4-20 however it still crashes/restarts every 30 seconds or so! Any ideas? Is there any even earlier firmware I can try?

FYI the USB update technique in the first post did NOT work for me. I had to plug the dongle into wall power and wait for the red light, THEN I plugged in the USB drive into the dongle and it started flashing red/green and eventually turned solid red completing the firmware update.
I have the same issue after updating the firmware. I never could get it working. They are sending me a new adapter. Were you able to get yours working? What was your outcome?

You could try 10-28-20. I have a 2020 Corolla and this is working very well for me. I am using the modified version available here https://github.com/ludwig-v/wireless-carplay-dongle-reverse-engineering/tree/master/Firmware

But the official version will work just as well if you'd rather.

Hello,
My device’s firmware is 2020.11.20 and I want to update to latest version of ludwig’s custom firmware.
Can I update directly to latest custom firmware or do I have to update in order?
Thank you.

@jbn858273 : You misunderstand the issue with the last version .. as I already told earlier the problem is that they changed the binary un-obfuscating the firmware so the script is completely ignoring old images. Changing the version number is useless because it is not even checked, and packing a custom image using old obfuscation method obviously won't work.
Hi @VLud, I have the well known Siri Issue on Ford Sync. I tried CarlinkKit months ago (the first version with 2020 firmware and it worked). I purchased the new one and when Siri is invoked it crashes everything.

After hours spent with their "support" today they told me that is not possible to downgrade. Then, trying to figure something out in this long thread I saw your message.

So, I'll put simply, isn't it anymore possible to downgrade if you are on the latest firmware? Is it correct?

Thank you in advance

Thank you all!
For the first time I have been able to feel the emotion to see the led blinking. I downgraded to 2020.12.25 version but unfortunately Siri still crashes :(

@TireGuy6 I have read you are on Ford Sync, too. Have you resolved this annoying issue?
I Know, because I tested, that for sure an old firmware works because a friend of mine has my same car and an old carlink kit, never updated and it works flawlessly. Is there something we can do?

Thank you

@TireGuy6 and @VLud don't resolve issues; one has created a sick theme for the device, the other has altered some components of the firmware to allow it to run more efficiently. It's up to Carlinkit to update the firmware to address the issues, even if an older firmware used to work. I'd recommend letting them know which old firmware was fine and that it's now not; can't speak to how effective that'd be, but I know the folks in this thread can't really do much.

Gracias
¿Why don't your friend try to open 192.168.50.2 in his browser and see what firmware version it is running and you try to rollback to that version? I think it is the simpliest way.

This is the one I use for my Ford Sync 3.4 and all features work pretty flawlessly.. As others have said, NEVER upgrade your firmware once you are remotely satisfied with how it performs.

Here is a link to an archive of previous official firmware images. Just download the preferred version and follow the usual instructions to flash from USB. Embarrassingly, I cannot remember who maintains this archive and must receive the credit 😳

EDIT: credit to @KevinGrabher

Wow Thanks a lot and thank you @sandiegopaw, as well.
My doubt was actually this, after the downgrade to "Ludwig's firmware", will I be able to try to push another downgrade? After your replies I guess it is possible so I'll give it a try. It would be great if I could make this dongle working flawlessly.

Just a quick reply to @Kurt871: I don't expect anyone solving this issue for me (and I didn't mean to bother anyone, I'm sorry if I did). I already got in touch with their support, spent hours, shared this very valuable information, tried to ask them if this issue is under investigation, said them I was available for testing, etc. The answer was: we have your feedback, there won't be any update soon, this dongle works only for 80% of the car, I suggest you to send it back.

But reading this long thread I just wanted to figure out if I could have been able to fix this issue and eventually write down a guide to be helpful for any new Ford car owner and for this reasons I asked that to the expert of the matter, especially because I have read that one of them had my same issue. After all, knowledge is sharing, isn't it? :)

Did you just put that on the USB drive as-is and get it to rollback?
What I posted on another forum:

Here is the link to the firmware version that works on my 2020 ST:

https://github.com/ludwig-v/wireles...mware/U2W_Update_2020.08.04.1602_ROLLBACK.img

Click the download button and save the file as : "U2W_Update" (Exactly as I typed, no quotes)

Erase and format a USB drive (I used a 4GB) using FAT32 formatting. Copy the above file to the newly formatted drive (make sure it is the only file on the drive)

plug the USB drive into the CarPlay2Air dongle

plug the dongle into a USB power adapter (I use the one that came with my iPhone) and plug into a household 110 outlet.

Your CarPlay2Air will display a red solid light, then flashing blue and red lights while it updates. Give it about 3 minutes, but make sure the lights are done blinking..

Remove drive and plug the CarPlay2Air into your ST USB drive. Should work perfectly now! Good luck!

Yes just update it, my suggestion is Feb 2021 Custom AutoKit then install the CarPlay UI Theme.

I am Running Ford Sync on a 2019 Edge running Sync 3.4 latest update. Running CUSTOM AUTOKIT FEB2021 software on the dongle, my wife hasn’t complained and if there were any issues I would have heard it day 1. I asked her if she uses Siri and she has stated she “never” has issues.

Put the original firmware in the garbage bin! It SUCKS! Custom all the way!

Thank you but I rolled back at December Ludwig's firmware and Siri isn't working so I'm not confident that a February one could work. I thought it was a common issue on Ford Sync 3.4 but it isn't so. I'm on Ford Puma 2021 and I've read several complaints about this.

Anyway thanks to your wonderful job I was able to downgrade to August firmware version and... IT'S WORKING!

Thank you again guys. It was driving me so crazy... If you will take a jump in Italy I will offer you an authentic Italian pizza!

In the next post I will write a guide with the exact step top follow hoping to be useful to any other Ford owner with my same problem!

Siri Crash issue on Ford Sync using CarLink Kit / CarPlay2Air? Follow this guide to solve the issue.

In order to solve this issue you need to downgrade to August Firmware Version that works flawlessly on Fond Sync at 100%. But, if you are here, you probably have updated your dongle at the latest March version so unfortunately the downgrade won't be possibile anymore.

But the amazing @VLud Job made this possible again. With this little guide you will need to rollback two times but if you follow exactly all the steps, it will be super easy.

First Step: Let's Downgrade to December version

You need to download this file and to rename it in "U2W_Update.img" (no quotes, of course).
  1. Please save update firmware file on USB flash drive (Flash drive format must be FAT32)
NOTE: In case the file has no extension, kindly put it in this .img
  2. Plug the flash drive into the CPLAY2air / CarLink Kit adapter.
  3. Plug CPLAY2air / CarLink Kit to the USB power charger/wall charger for your iPhone. Please don’t use the USB port of the car or computer!!
  4. Please wait 2-3 minutes, until the the flashing light becomes solid (when you will see red and green lights flashing it's a good sign! Then Wait for the solid red light)
  5. Please unplug the adapter from the USB charger and remove the USB flash drive from the adapter.
  6. Please now plug the product into the USB port of the car.
  7. Please wait until the new window will appear on the vehicle's screen.
  8. Connect your phone to the Bluetooth network which is shown on the screen.
  9. Wait for the new interface to appear on the screen.
Now, please check this firmware version. Probably Siri still won't work. If so, let's downgrade to the August Firmware version. Download this file:
https://github.com/ludwig-v/wireles...mware/U2W_Update_2020.08.04.1602_ROLLBACK.img

We need now to follow the same steps as above BUT we need to rename the files in this way, this time: "U2W_AUTOKIT_Update.img" (always no quotes)

Take the usb stick, delete the old file, put inside the new one and follow the same steps.

You will downgrade at a fully working version for Ford Sync. And, of course, DON'T UPDATE ANYMORE!!!

I recently received a carplay2air receiver that I wanted to use with my aftermarket Sony XAv-AX5000 head unit. Both on the factory firmware and the March update I see the same behaviour. The carplay2air unit connects to my phone, CarPlay starts, then goes to a blank blue screen. CarPlay is still running, music will play and if I hit the home button a couple of times it will bring the CarPlay interface back up on the screen. Not horrible, but annoying. Is there an older firmware or custom firmware that I should try instead?
