Well today tried lots of different FW’s with names of U2W_Autolink_Update and also U2W_Update and used 2 different USB drives and still just get solid red LED on the dongle. Never once did it seem to flash anything, even after waiting 2mins to start.
I hope that it is just a typo on your previous response. The U2W_Autolink_Update should have been U2W_AUTOKIT_Update

Not sure now! I’ll try again with the caps thanks. Have you heard of the name U2W_SYD_Update.img before?
Saw the filename a few months back but I have no idea what devices take the filename.

Edited: VLud said THIS. It must have something to do with the August 27 2020 firmware itself.

Ok, not sure what version was on, think it’s later than that though. It’s probably hardware problem then as get nothing, just solid red light with everything

Thanks

AFAIK CarPlay is basically a video feed, so the content should not make a difference as all the computing is done on the phone before streaming the rendered video feed.
I've read that before in this thread but I'm not convinced.
The CarPlay and the Joyeauto adapters display different colors for the same CarPlay UI elements.
I'm not talking about during bootup or anything. I mean the actually CarPlay UI like the GO button in Apple Maps.
If the rendering is all being done on the phone then the UI elements would be the same regardless of the adapter being used.

I am new to the party. I have a 2016 Mercedes Benz CLA-250. I bought the CPlay2Air dongle and it’s running firmware 2021.03.06.1343 with no update available straight out of the box. It seems to work well, actually better than expected in terms of speed to boot and no lag issues.

My problem is different entirely and may be specific to the auto and I’m not sure if it can be overcome or if any of you have seen it before.

When I arrive home, turn off my car off, my phone pairs to my home Wi-Fi, but then enters this weird loop where it disconnects my home Wi-Fi and tries to connect to the Dongle Wi-Fi. There’s this pattern where it pairs to dongle Bluetooth, connects to dongle Wi-Fi, realizes it can’t pair to the head unit, disconnects and the phone reconnects to home Wi-Fi only to repeat the cycle indefinitely.

It’s weird it doesn’t happen every time, but I’m guessing that for whatever reason the port doesn’t ALWAYS lose power in my car, which causes this connection loop.

Not sure really what to do about it. Otherwise very happy with the device, compared to the majority of the common complaints I have read (slow to boot, lag, etc.), but my issue if not reparable will definitely be a show stopper.

I have a new problem with the adapter, it all started after a long roadtrip. Maybe someone has a clue about it or a solution.
I use Waze for navigation and sometimes the gps position gets slugish and gets behind my actual real position.
Its not the phone or anything else, because if i connect it by wire, its all good.

Did it works? wanna know before trying. Thanks.
The day before yesterday I was busy restoring the software. i came from version 2021.03.06.1343(latest) but could not immediately downgrade to 2020.08.04.1602_Rollback, first i went back to 2020.11.10.2138_Rollback and after that I was able to go back to version 2020.08.04.1602 Rollback.

I tested the version in the car but unfortunately Spotify still crashed for me. finally i did one update over the air, because I thought it was pointless I forgot to write down the version. Believe it or not but now the carplay works perfectly without Spotify crashing! Tested for 2 days without any problem.

I only have the version for you that I can read in the display of the car, maybe someone here knows which version it is. 00b0d900d0caCMP.

did a search in this forum, someone wrote:

I bought the CarlinKit 2.0 last month. It has been working very well for me. My only gripe is sometimes when My 2018 Toyo Camry boots up, there is an overlay between CarPlay and the built in stereo interface. Like buttons on top of one another. It makes tapping things difficult. Has anyone seen this behavior?

Otherwise, I am very happy with it.

Confirm this worked for me too.
Recap.
Mine is on 2021.03.06.1355 (Red UI) (the car is 2017 Mercedes CLA)
went back to > U2W_Update_2020.11.10.2138_ROLLBACK.img and then >U2W_Update_2020.08.04.1602_ROLLBACK.img Still reboot every time when using Spotify and Maps simultaneously.
the last step is to update using OTA (192.168.50.2) now everything works perfectly.

Thanks.

I presume you used the USB method to go back to “U2W_Update_2020.11.10.2138_ROLLBACK.img”

Do you leave the file name as is or remove the _ROLLBACK bit please?

I have a Red UI that has solid red LED on and won’t respond to anything. Tried numerous flashes of different firmwares via USB.

Thanks

From
2021.03.06.1355 to U2W_Update_2020.11.10.2138_ROLLBACK.img I renamed it to "U2W_AUTOKIT_Update.img"
and 2020.11.10.2138 to 2020.08.04.1602 I renamed it to "U2W_Update.img"

which version are u on right now? I bricked my unit once by trying to downgrade via OTA method It has solid red LED like yours. By using "U2W_AUTOKIT_Update_2021.03.06.1355.img" file and rename to "U2W_AUTOKIT_Update.img" unbricked it for me. Hope that help.

Mine just stopped working on my car 1 day for no reason, solid red LED on it. Plugging into a USB power brick was the same, tried numerous different versions in 2 USB pens and nothing started the flash process, just stayed on solid red.

I’ll try your advice above
Thanks

Hello!
I have problem with my CPLAY2air adapter. After a problems with reboot when navi and Spotify apps was open I tried to downgrade firmware. I tried to downgrade to 2020.08.04.1602 and 2020.11.10.2138 but when I plugged adapter to car it doesn't work. Now I have problem like this - adapter doesn't work, when I plugged it to car there nothing work but green led is flashing slowly. When I want to update firmware and I plugged adapter to charger it doesn't want to update (no green led, no red led - just nothing). RIP? Do you have any idea how to fix it?
Regards!

I haven't read all 264 pages but it seems to me as if the wireless adapters aren't totally ready for prime time yet. I'm sure many work fine but I'm not interested in upgrading/downgrading software to get it to work. Hopefully, this all gets straightened out soon

I haven't been active on this thread for quite a bit, so I am not aware if there are recent discoveries or developments that other members here have shared.

However, from what I know, I think your CPLAY2air is not dead as you mentioned that the green led glows when plugged to your car's head unit.

It seems that your device is working and carplay is activated except that your head unit is not displaying the carplay UI.

Playing around with the dongle settings in 192.168.50.2 might fix your issue.

Maybe others here can comment?

Cheers!

My advice would be buy it from Amazon where returns are easy, and give it a shot with your car. If it works great, never update it, and if not just return it. Its a fine device as long as its compatible with your car, but its software update process is what leads to bricking so I wouldn't recommend tinkering unless necessary.

Also valuable to note that threads like these are biased towards those users having issues. For what it's worth, I've had my Carlinkit 2.0 adapter since November 2020 and it works incredibly well. I experience no reboot issues, I'm on the March 2021 @VLud custom firmware, and everything largely works perfectly. There's some lag when skipping tracks but that's present with factory wireless CarPlay as well. The only issues I have off the top of my head are that the steering wheel next/previous buttons don't function as track seeking when held down (only skip) and sometimes I need to unplug/replug to get spoken Waze alerts unmuted (though that might be a Waze bug.) My two cents for whatever it's worth!

Hello guys.

I have a 2021 model volkswagen polo. My car supports wired carplay. I'm thinking of buying carlinkit 3.0 to make it wireless. But all inputs in my car are usb-c. Does it work on cars with usb-c ports? Your comments are very important, I will buy accordingly.

Just buy yourself a

USB C to USB Adapter

and you should be fine.
