So I have a CarPlay2Air. Can you guys with the Carlinkit tell me if it has the very noticeable lag in audio when on a phone call? There's nearly a second between when I speak and when the other end hears it, making for some awkward conversations sometimes, or the other end thinks I'm done speaking, starts talking, them my audio comes in like I'm cutting them off.

I also notice lag when playing music: Hit Next or Previous to play a song, and it takes a few seconds before it responds. Videos played on the phone are horribly out of sync with the audio, etc.

Anyone figure out how to resolve this?

I do not experience appreciable lag with my Carlinkit, fwiw. There's some delay between audio starting/stopping when skipping/pausing tracks but nothing outrageous. No lag with phone calls whatsoever.

Did you check post #6,076 by @VLud ? here

That’s basically what that video used, and was. As in yet UsB flash with that version.

Mine doesn’t work, is just a solid red LED as soon as it’s on, tried with it plugged in, then powered up, and plugged in USB after it’s powered up. Left both a while and nothing happens unfortunately.

Plugging it into car, it doesn’t show a WiFi error, it just does nothing.

If anyone has a CPlay2Air adapter and is having issues with their Ford Sync system, please email
support @ carplay2air.reamaze.com without the spaces between the @. I am going back and forth with them and they say that I am the first issue they have seen. I have tried multiple adapters with multiple 2021 Ford vehicles and get the same result.
Their last few updates have caused me several issues. What’s worse is they took away the ability to revert to a previous version that used to work perfectly. I’ve been emailing them and they say they are working on a new update that will fix it. No ETA.
my 2 issues are that when you toggle Siri it crashes the whole system and makes it reboot. The other issue is I can’t play any audio at all. Not great.

Rollback official images for those blocked with WiFi error
11-10-20 was the last version that worked for me. Hoping to download this version and see if I can successfully revert back. Thanks for the links.

Just kidding. A version from August was the one that worked. Found the file online and now I’m up and running. Couldn’t be happier to never update again.

I got mine working on both my 2021 F-450 and 2021 Bronco Sport with Sync 3.4 by going back to the 2020.08.04 firmware.

I followed the instructions on the following post (#6509) except I renamed the 2020.08.04 update to U2W_Update.img as well. I found that it is somewhat picky on USB drives and I had to reformat my drive between each one. I used FAT32 with 1024 when formatting.

Ok, so I’ve done everything you’ve said. I have a 2020 Expedition. I reformatted the USB drive to FAT32 with 1024 bits. I download the file to the USB and name it appropriately. I plug in the adapter to a power outlet. I add the USB and nothing. What am I doing wrong? Is it truly something with my USB drive?
Thanks!

That's the same story they gave me when I first reported my problems (same as yours) back in February.

In the end, I got it working again (w/o Siri) by going back to the 03/06 update.

I believe their instructions say to plug the flash drive into the USB before applying power, however mine only ever worked by powering the adapter first, then plugging in the flash drive.

It really is some flakey stuff...

It is also case sensitive so name the file exactly as shown. Mine took a few tries formatting each time in between. I also wasn’t able to go directly back to August. @lghtspeedz what version are you on now?

I'm on 03/06. Still crashes with Hey Siri, however it plays music and otherwise works.

Has someone tried this device? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002323801665.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.79202e0e5jwZrd

The software looks very similar to Carlinkit, but in a review a Kamiq/Scala is mentioned for which this device is working great. For me, the Carlinkit (USB-C version) has been working stable till december 2020 version, but the mic was not working. From the march 2021 update the mic is working, but stability is very bad (crashes randomly).

Can someone share their experience with this device?

It's probably exactly the same as the Carlinkit just in a different casing, especially given the screenshots show the same UI interface.

So I've been following this thread for awhile and am having a problem that I haven't seen a solution to. Everything was working just fine up until a week or so ago when my phone started saying the accessory wasn't supported. I hadn't performed any firmware updates on my device. My vehicle is a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado, and my phone is an iPhone 12 Pro Max.

I thought my device was trashed, so tried to update the firmware. The only CFW that I have been able to get flashed properly from a USB device was Downgrade_2021.03.06/ (with the necessary script files).

Of course my device (CarlinKit 2.0) is outside of the return window and the manufacturer wants me to return the item to China for a replacement.

Isn't that a lightening cable MFi recognition issue?
1. Try a different MFi-certified lightening cable
2. Hardware reboot your iPhone by doing a quick click and release on the volume up, volume down, then hold the wake/sleep button until the phone reboots

I am able to connect my phone via lightning cable with no problem. It works with a couple of different cables, and I think I have been able to utilize multiple USB ports with a wired connection. The issue only lies when I try to wireless connect to the CarlinKit adapter. That error always pops up when I try to connect via bluetooth (GM-97C0)--the WiFi connection to the adapter (GM17 I believe) works just fine. In fact, the second screenshot I posted is what I see when I connect to 192.168.50.2 via WiFi in the car.

Edit -- I did go ahead and order some different USB cables to potentially alleviate the concern regarding the integrity of the current cable.

Ok, thanks for all your feedback. I was persistent and got this to work, spending some time on it today. I ended up buying a new USB drive and reformatting it. I looked through the GitHub site again and noticed a ReadMe file at the top. There some specific instructions that I did not see. I was on version 2021.03.06 Red UI. I think I have the latest Gen 2.0 or 2.5. Anyway, the Readme noted that if you are the March update you have to roll back to a November update. It also listed three potential file names to try. To rollback to the Nov update I needed to rename U2W_AUTOKIT_Update.img is the file that ended up making it work. I tried it out and Siri still crashed but I was clearly on the older firmware. I was then able to rollback to the August 2020 version using U2W_Update.img. So Siri now works without crashing, texting works, phone works, and maps work. I would say this is a decent setup. It takes a lot longer to boot up but that’s fine. So my sense is that software drives boot up time not the hardware.

Hopefully this helps others having issues with Sync 3.4. Oddly enough the original firmware worked on my wife’s CRV. I haven’t tried this version yet, but this is for my car so I’m happy. I’ll be curious to see if they actually come out with a new update that fixes all these problems but I doubt I’ll be the guinea pig if it does. This was rough. I worked hard to make this birthday present work!

Thanks again everyone!

Have you tried removing the CarlinkIt CarPlay device and deleting the Bluetooth device on your iPhone, ditto for the iPhone in the CarlinkIt and then restart (reboot) everything and connect from scratch?

Yes the carlinkit absolutely adds in about 1 second delay. Makes phone calls very awkward. If somebody calls me then I’ll unplug the dongle and let the phone auto connect to the car’s Bluetooth.

Hello, I found this forum and post in an attempt to get my Carlinkit 2.0 to work. I just purchased it. I think it is the Red UI. I have a 2020 Ford Expedition running Sync 3.4 version 21020. I am experiencing the Siri crash but otherwise works. I tried to follow these instructions to downgrade to the December and then August versions. But unfortunately when I plug in the USB to the Carlinkit dongle it does nothing. I have a USB and renamed the file to U2W_Update.img. It is formatted FAT32 and there is nothing else but this file on the USB drive. What am I missing??
Thanks!!
I did the rollback over the weekend and once it got going, it worked flawlessly. I followed the directions explicitly with the following notes:
1. format FAT32 and default.
2. had to rollback to December first and then (directions state this link was for Aug, but it looks like a Nov date to me so that is what I am calling it) November. After 1st rollback, I checked the version using the ip address and safari on my phone while the dongle was still plugged up to the wall after each rollback. (I already had the bluetooth/wifi setup on my phone from when it was in my car, and it still worked without being plugged into my car)
3. I used 2 usb drives. 1 for Dec file and 1 for Nov file.
4. Plugged the usb power block thing (you know what I mean) directly into a wall socket. Did not work at all when I used the more conv located charging block or surge protector.
5. Plugged the dongle into power, then added usb stick, there is a slight delay (maybe 1min) and then the red/green flashing lights.
6. Files named as U2W_Update.img (for Dec) and U2W_AUTOKIT_Update.img (for Nov)
7. The instructions state its a rollback to Aug, but file seems to have a Nov date stamp. Either way, this file works with FS3.4 and Siri for me. No need to hunt up the Aug file.
8. My dongle is set to "compatible" on the IP update/safari screen on my phone.
9. I have the carlinkit 2.0 plus dongle.

Sorry they are in a random order, but I put them down as I remembered them. I hope this helps.
