Here is some more info...

The access point spanned by the Carlinkit adapter only offers 802.11n 2x2 40MHz @ 300mbps:

It uses channel 36 which is UNII-1 and not the advertised 5.8GHz band (UNII-3). This should make any difference though.

Apple actually recommends 802.11ac VHT (using up to 80MHz wide channels resulting in 866mbps) and even mandates WMM. The Carlinkit 2.0 adapter offers neither despite the built-in Realtek WiFi chipset supporting both. I don't know whether it would make much of a difference since CarPlay is a point-to-point connection, not using a hell of a lot of bandwidth anyway. It might however bring down latency.

I was able to confirm using WiFi scanner the newer Carlinkit 3.0 hardware (new red UI with pretty buttons), they are now on 802.11ac @80Mhz (still on channel 36 though).

Ask them in private, maybe its a defective unit, else open dispute.

Strange my Ford sync head unit instantly detected a car play device and come up with the splash screen - for me the Bluetooth is called ConnectBoxBt

Podofo sent me a link to video instructions and it shows downloading and installing an app onto the head unit so something weird is definitely going on.

Is it working now?
Anyone else with Podofo for feedback?

I ordered the Podofi Mini from Aliexpress last week, but still hasn’t even said dispatched yet.

I hope they aren’t mixing them up with the Android based ones though.

I can't confirm that. Mine is still WiFi 4 (802.11n). It is a Realtek based Carlinkit 2.0 with red UI. Probably yours is a Broadcom based one.

I have some bigger trouble with 2021.08.24.1817. It happened three times since yesterday that touch input did not work after first boot. I had to replug the adapter to get it in a working state.

HU is a MIB2 inside a SEAT Leon ST.

Any chance of this reviving a dead cheapo Amazon v2 (I think) which has red UI, which just has a solid red LED now?

Could I try and flash USB, other versions haven’t worked though from earlier FW via USB.
Have you ever been successful with any USB firmware? I’m wondering if you’re preparing the flash drive properly.

Not on this one no. I have in the past on my v1 CarLinkIt though.

I’ve tried a few different USB drives. It may be this not 100% though.

I think it’s broke, it worked one day, next went in car and didn’t come in, solid red LED. Always the same now.

Plugged into a wall plug and same, just goes to red LED.

I’m happy to try anything with it now though as it’s not working and I use my v1.

Agreed, Red interface (PCB dated 20210516) is still Wireless N/4 @ 40MHz.

Hi, Anyone with Green UI - Have the latest update?

The Mini unit that just came out - is this the best unit to buy? i.e WiFi6?

check if any wifi comes up (might have a diff name than usual) and if you can connect to it, you might be able to open the web interface and do a rollback.

My podofo seems to be in delivery, so fast!... let's see how this goes once delivered...

Quick update, I just received the cheap podofo unit and it works fine on my volkswagen mib2 from 2015. On a first impression, everything seems to work (wheel buttons, touch screen, etc). I have also been able to switch to cast mode (top right) but forgot to try actually casting something 🤣

On a first impression it seems to work much better than my carlinkit v1 unit, more fluent and with no stuttering on gps voice instructions.

Now it's only left to see if on a trip it keeps up&running or if it craps out like the carlinkit does after some time.

Will try this as soon as I can (plus the casting) but the first impressions are pretty good!

note: I decided not to upgrade the firmware as it does seem to work fine on a first impression. I will update if any issues appear.

Strange I can’t switch to cast mode - was it just a tap in the top right or hold down?

Just a top right corner tap on the connect screen. To switch back, another tap on the left corner.

Once is connected, the tap does not work.

(I've been unable to cast anything... I can't see any device to cast... will try once outside home with no local devices at view.)

I'd expect that. Only the newer 3.0 hardware (new red UI with pretty buttons) supports 802.11ac with 80Mhz BW.
Hi THX723,

can you post a screenCapture or have a link showing the "new red UI with pretty button" as I don't think I've seen one before.

thanks!

Can you send the link to the newer unit? The one I just bought was supposed to be "new for 2021" but who knows. I'm open to a newer unit, especially if it works better. The one I just received was after my green UI v2 bricked during an upgrade. Thanks!
