Can you send the link to the newer unit? The one I just bought was supposed to be "new for 2021" but who knows. I'm open to a newer unit, especially if it works better. The one I just received was after my green UI v2 bricked during an upgrade. Thanks!

I can't yet confirm 3.0 works any better than the previous revision, only that it uses 802.11ac/80Mhz BW. Time will tell.

check if any wifi comes up (might have a diff name than usual) and if you can connect to it, you might be able to open the web interface and do a rollback.


My podofo seems to be in delivery, so fast!... let's see how this goes once delivered...

No WiFi on 192.168.50.2 that I definitely connected to before. That’s either in car or in a wall plug.

I’ve tried loads of FW using USB method, but all it does is solid red LED

When I bricked my V1 (that I finally fixed doing a rollback), it was broadcasting a wifi with the default name so my phone wasn't connecting to it.

So you connected to that WiFi on 192.168.59.2 and then used the rollback within the settings page?

Was that connected to car, or to a wall plug? If it matters not sure.

The red UI is simply software/firmware.
Any CarLinkit 2.0 with a detachable USB cable could have that interface.
You might even be able to install that UI on the 1.0 with the attached USB cable.

The 3.0 is a hardware change and you can’t tell by looking at the device or the UI.
Unless you have the very new CarLinkit mini which probably all have 3.0 hardware.

I wouldn’t trust any black box that claimed to be 3.0 hardware unless it was sold directly by CarLinkit.

I have version 2.0 Green UI device.
I've currently got installed @VLud's custom firmware version Autokit(Red UI) 2021.03.06.
How can I install the latest Autokit 2021.08.24.1817 version?
I've tried putting the U2W_AUTOKIT_Update_2021.08.24.1817.img renamed to either U2W_Update.img or U2W_AUTOKIT_Update.img to a USB but the update doesn't start, nothing happens.
I've also tried to flash U2W_Update_2021.07.05.2308.img non-Autokit but that also doesn't do anything.
Updating via OTA doesn't work as the next update is the small OTA fix.

What can I do?

That's not entirely correct. What you have shown above is known as the 3.0 Mini.

The original model (non-Mini) also comes in 3.0 revision. One of the differences we have now confirmed (vs. 1.0/2.0) is the different WiFi/BT chipset.

While I can't personally guarantee it, the link I provided early looks like the official Carlinkit Amazon Store.

1 hour trip with music plus gps on the podofo.

No lookups, no stuttering everything fine!!!! Also it does not get as hot as the carlinkit v1.

Tried casting, podofo casts a wifi but didn't know its password. i updated the firmware and now the wifi pass is on the load screen (88888888). Tried casting my phone and it works, a bit of video artifacts on youtube but could be cause my old iphone 8.


Overall pretty satisfied, for 36€ its a steal. Hope it works as good for a long time 😬

That's not entirely correct. What you have shown above is known as the 3.0 Mini.

I know. And you can tell that I know because I called it the CarLinkit mini.
I didn't say only the mini has the 3.0 hardware.
I said you can't tell which black boxes have the 3.0 hardware by looking at them and those claiming that the red interface is the identifier are wrong.
There are a ton of black boxes with the red UI on AliExpress claiming to be 3.0 and I wouldn't trust any of them.

Tested with the Ipad and it's also broken, so it seems casting is not working yet with current firmware. Excuse me for the blurry picture, but had to use another phone to take it and it's so bad 🤣

Not something that I needed but could be cool/useful. Let's hope the OTA error after upgrade it's just because there's no newer versions available 😅

Will keep testing it but as I said on the previous post, the first impressions are pretty good!

To upgrade to >= 2021.03.06 from CFW, two solutions:

• Put U2W_Update_2020.11.10.2138_ROLLBACK.img on a USB Key and rename it to U2W_AUTOKIT_Update.img if Red UI or U2W_Update.img if Blue UI, then upgrade back to official 2021.03.06. Only then you can upgrade using U2W_Update_2021.07.05.2308.img renamed to U2W_Update.img
• Put this script (ARMimg_maker & U2W.sh) on a USB Key and U2W_Update_2021.07.05.2308.img and rename it to U2W_AUTOKIT_Update.img if Red UI or U2W_Update.img if Blue UI.

on their website, they show the micro sd port as a firmware update port, probably for recovery in case of failure.

The script only replace the binary responsible for .img decryption (new encryption > old one), you can't brick your unit doing this.

I updated directly from CFW 2021.02.02 to CFW 2021.08.24 on my end, without any issue:

The real update is done by a proprietary binary made by Carlinkit (binary that can rewrite flash with raw data, raw data that can brick your unit)

I dont think that they are the manufacturer because of their price, much higher then podofo. I think its the other way around or both are a rebrand of a chinesse manufacturer.

Good find.

I still cant switch to cast mode on my unit followed the youtube video too.

Although my car is not even technically supported by them (Ford Sync 3) other than that it all seems to work fairly well.

I just contacted them to ask about the update issue after installing 0.0.5, they say it is normal as it's a server side issue. Once they fix it will work as expected. 0.0.5 is currently the newest version available.

I did just that and it worked for me, I'm on 08.24 directly from 03.06.

Just tried on my other dev unit -- SUCCESS -- got it to update.

I must have done something wonky on the other unit... NO LED or any wifi -- anyway to recover it or throw it in the bin?

I ordered a "v3" todo some testing... so it's not the end of the world that I lost one...
