Have been seeing the same **** on 15.2. Very annoying. And yes, it's just Waze complaining that cannot get a GPS lock.
Forcing kill would get it back to work.

Another problem that I faced recenty is some strong interference while driving on I-95 in Florida (north of Miami). On several spots it would simply loose connection (the car would report that the "device" disappeared) and in less than one minute would reconnect automatically. This was on a Kia Sportage (rental, AVIS). Very wierd, always on the same spots, along I95. Like some eletromagnetic interference that was causing the adapter to shutoff.

Anyone experienced anything similar?
Yeah having the same problem with waze with wired carplay

I came by here because this is the most robust discussion of these cplay2air devices.
I too recently purchased a cplay2air device and had a hell of a time getting connected.
I would get completely connected, everything looked good, add my wife's phone - worked good...
But then the next day she'd leave and it wouldn't work.

After some thought (and maybe this has been covered here) I had a lightbulb go off.
I submitted this to cplay2air support and they confirmed all the below:

1. To use cplay2air, the phone's WiFi must always be connected to the dongle. This means, while using cplay2air, your phone will not use vehicle hotspot or other WiFi, only LTE

2. If car is in a driveway and connected to house WiFi, initial start will cause confusion because phone will be on house WiFi and not connected to dongle. When you drive away - the phone might not auto-connect to dongle WiFi.

3. If phone is configured to auto-connect to vehicle hotspot, you may never connect because the phone will not be using dongle WiFi - preferring to use the hotspot instead.

In my case, I would - through following the steps and checking firmware, etc... - I would be connected properly via the dongle WiFi. I would get everything configured and working. I would go back to my "normal" configuration which is, at the house - house WiFi, in the car - car HotSpot. Which means I never connect back to the dongle. And thus I never got the thing to work.

On the plus side, knowing this allows a user to easily control if they want to use CarPlay or not by simply changing their WiFi connection.

This WiFi behavior is true for even original OEM Wireless CarPlay, not just dongles.

The only way to 'prioritize' the dongle connection is to manually connect to the dongle WiFi SSID a few more times when the phone is connected to your car hotspot or home WiFi SSIDs. The connection usually sticks the next time around.

Yeah having the same problem with waze with wired carplay
Waze is also a cluster***. I've been running the beta software for over a year now, and just like Apple, they eventually fix things, then regress the issue back into the current build.

I just got a new Ford Ranger Lariat last week, and unfortunately, it still uses wired CarPlay... I desperately want to get to wireless, but with all of the issues native to iOS CarPlay and the various apps, I cannot imagine a positive outcome from introducing one of the products referenced in this thread into that quagmire...

With 296 pages and almost 7,500 posts, I obviously have not read through this entire thread... I am curious, though to learn if there is a clear-cut leader among these devices, especially with the Ford SYNC3 system.

Hi Guys, been a read only member of this forum for couple of years now, receiving many suggestions and help along the way.
Seeing so many of you complaining about Waze not working properly, wanted to say something: indeed this is a Waze problem not any dongle or Carplay issue. Same thing happens with Google Maps as well sometimes. Maybe 1 out of 10 times when starting the car, Waze was starting correctly.
How I solved this issue, at least temporarily, is to create a Siri shortcut, and open Waze when connecting to cat BT. This was 30 sec to 1 min min before the dongle starts and connects, Waze is already started and the location acquired. Works 100% of the time.
When closing the car, carplay disconnects, and Waze closes automatically, so on issue having a background process.
Hope it helps.

how does waze close automatically when carplay disconnects? I couldn't make something like that with siri shortcuts.

I've a theory for Mitsubishi Outlander (and maybe Jeep? ) owners not gettings these dongles to work:

1) before setting up CarPlay you should do BT-pairing with phone and dongle but Mitsubishi skips this part and starts to use dongle as CarPlay device right away -> your phone and dongle wont get paired, right?

2) I've found out that most of people dont get this to work. However I've found two who have managed to get it work right away without any problems - just plug and play.

---> These two have one thing in common - they had used that same dongle on their PREVIOUS car where they done BT-pairing (and WIFI setup) and maybe that's the reason they got it to work?

Pair your phone and dongle with a car that supports dongle -> plug that dongle on your Mitsubishi -> enjoy Wireless CarPlay? Anyone able to try this out? Going to take some supported car for a test drive next week to test it out unless someone has already tried it?

It just does. Indeed not possible via shortcuts but I think it has something to do with how it was started as a background process. But for sure copule of minutes after the car is closed Waze no longer running.

I have been using the CarLinkIt 2.0 for over 18 months, then picked up a cheap Podofo for the sake of testing it. After upgrading the latest firmware version specific to Mercedes - very likely not something you would need to worry about - I find it connects faster and more reliably than the CarLinkIt. Your Mileage May Vary - I know that experience with Ford seems a bit hit and miss...

I have a Podofo Wireless Carplay adapter and installed the 43.0.11 from a link here at Macrumors.

The Cheerdriving page shows only the 43.0.10. Which is the official page to get the newest updates for the Podofo adapter?
Last time I looked the Cheerdriving website indeed only offers 43.0.10, and this is the official web site... wondering where exactly did you get the 43.0.11?

Thanks for that... will look at Podofo... I've seen a lot of ads for CarLinkIt, too.

I have been using the Carlinkit (v1, v2 and v3) with my Mazda 3 for years now and it has always been problematic. Crashing after an hour and inconsistent connection on boot with Mazda Connect. Would often have to unplug and reconnect to get the adapter working. Been hearing good things about Podofo so I just made the switch. Well to CheerDriving (purchaced direct from aliexpress) since Podofo is no longer available on their store and all the support was coming from CheerDriving anyways.

So far I have been very happy.

Good
- Fast Booting
- Consistent Connection
- Stable (so far)

Bad
- Audio delay (not actually bad but equal to Carlinkit set on DVD. Carlinkit on CD had much less delay)
- No user options (So I can't set it to CD)

At the time of this writing, I am using 1203 (43.0.11.0.0.0.3-2.10.2).

Links from their FB Owners Group for the latest version.
https://cheerdriving.lanzouw.com/ConnectBox <- for all except MB
https://cheerdriving.lanzouw.com/ConnectBoxMB <- MB Touch version

Upgrading the versions is super easy too.
- Copy the ISPBOOOT.BIN to a MicroSD
- Insert MicroSD into adaptor
- Power on the adaptor (in the car or with USB Charger)
- Wait for the blinking green light to stop
- Remove MicroSD and reboot

EDIT:
They have released a new update 0114 (43.0.10.1.0.1.0.0-2.10.3). There was no link, just instructions to update from 192.168.0.1. The only change seems to be that the update page is now in English. I also needed to unpair and repair BT after the update.

I just bought two after a four hour drive required me to unplug and replug my Carlinkit 3.0 three times.

New firmware for Carlinkit available:
Code:
${"filePath":"\/mnt\/downloads\/2022-01-24\/U2W_AUTOKIT_Update_2021.12.22.1645.img","fileSize":"460378","fileName":"U2W_AUTOKIT_Update.img","version":"2021.12.22.1645","updateTime":"2022-01-25 15:27:49","updateLog":"Optimize memory usage"}

Does wireless CarPlay introduce latency?

This may be a big concern for those using Mapping apps from Apple, Waze and Google

Latency is only a problem with respect to phone calls. A 1 second delay is hardly a problem for mapping apps.

It is great information , Thank you very much.

I'm also Mazda user (MX-5), And I'm using Calinkit v2. (2021.03.06 FW). It is stable except reboot issue around 70min.
so I'm interested to buy CheerDriving, then I expect to resolve 70min reboot issue by it.
but it seems several models are selling such as "For Porsche", "For Volkswagen" , "For Audi", and "For Honda" in Alliexpress.

What model did you bought ?
It seems your environment is much stable, I would like to follow your environment.

I had a 2018 Mazda CX-5, and was never able to get my Carlinkit v1 working with it. It would start, briefly - and then the entire infotainment center would reboot. Last year I upgraded to a 2021 CX-5 with the newer infotainment system, and gave the Carlinkit v2 a try. It works almost perfectly, even over 3-4 hour drives. It connects quickly... most of the time. Yes, there are the occasional hiccups, and it's not always the smoothest switching between devices (it connects to my wife's phone faster than mine, even though I'm in the car more often)... but overall, it's great.

What are the exact differences between the Carlinkit 3.0 with the red UI and the Carlinkit 2.0 with the green UI?

I bought the VW one. Chatting with the support team, they said all of the versions where the same. I might just be how they name the BT connection.

Originally the BT connection did say Volkswagen but eventually changed to Mazda. However, I don't know if that was because of an updated or a reboot.

I'll probably keep the Carlinkit v3 around since there is some hope for a more stable version. Although after this long, I am not sure how wise that is. Might try to go back to 0306 to do some comparisons.

For what it is worth, mine is a 2016 Mazda 3 and I don't use the mirroring feature.
