I believe my CarLinkIt V2 is completely dead. It does not send power via cable to the phone and it does not read USB drive either.
I have another two CarLinkIt V2 but I am not going to risk them.

Few more screenshots of the new web Ui

My V2 Carlinkit did not take this update, kept clicking and it kept saying it was on the newest already with the 12/2021 update.

Edit- seems the update servers just weren’t connecting but they have now, my V2 updates without a problem. This update took a couple minutes longer than I remember previous updates to complete.

The V2 update has been successfully completed. She lasted a little longer, but everything works.

Now I borrowed the Carlinkit Adapter from two of my friends. One even has the new carbon look 3.0, one 3.0 glossy black.
So i actually test my old 2.0 glossy black, a new 3.0 glossy black and a new 3.0 carbon.

What I noticed is that my own (2.0 old green menu, which I flashed to red) has WPA connectivity. The new 3.0 Carbon also has WPA connection.
The new 3.0 glossy black has WPA2...
All are on the same firmware (2022.01.24) and all have the latest new menu.

All three have Realtek chip and Wifi5.
My old is manufactured 12.2020, the two new are 08.2021

The carbon works fantastical. After a few seconds the red menu will appear and after 25 seconds everything will be connected.

The new 3.0 glossy black sometimes takes 30/35 seconds, sometimes nothing happens after the red menu. Sometimes it also on after 25 seconds.

My old one is sometimes there after 25 seconds, sometimes I don't get a red menu and just a black screen. You don't know if it crashed or if something else is going to happen. But most time it also works good.

For me, the carbon model is the best because it works the most reliably. But there are not so many differences in my test samples.

What puzzles me is why one model has WPA2 and the other only WPA. Does that have advantages now?
My friends said they bought this directly from Amazon at the official Carlinkit store.
My Seat named the WPA "SEATEx" and the WPA2 "SEAT0x". I don't know why...

Sorry for my bad English :)

Did you use the same phone? I know that the adapter's hostapd.conf is configured to support both, WPA and WPA2:

Code:
# bit0 = WPA
# bit1 = IEEE 802.11i/RSN (WPA2) (dot11RSNAEnabled)
wpa=3

So it depends on the client how it connects to the adapter.

Do you have a link to this 3.0 Carbon unit? I haven't heard of that before.

Color: Schwarz-2
It feels very good, much better than glossy black.

Yes same old Android Phone (App inSSIDer) and I tested one after the other at the same time.
So one adapter defaults to WPA2, while the others use WPA. For whatever reason. does WPA2 really bring more security to the matter?

A new FW is available:
Code:
${"filePath":"\/mnt\/downloads\/2022-02-11\/U2W_AUTOKIT_Update_2022.01.24.1903.img","fileSize":"12798562","fileName":"U2W_AUTOKIT_Update.img","version":"2022.01.24.1903","updateTime":"2022-02-16 08:28:08","updateLog":"Fix some bugs"}

It includes the new web UI.

So I test with a newer Android smartphone and now...all three use WPA2.
But the glossy 3.0 use WIFIac and 80MHz, carbon and my old 2.0 use WIFIn and 40MHz.
Glossy 3.0 has in all my used test scanner apps a better signal rate (RSSI) than the carbon and much better than my old 2.0.
The 3.0 glossy only support WPA2 (newer hardware) say the app. The other two can WPA/WPA2.

So yes...I think tomorrow I will make a test in car again. I couldn't believe, that the carbon with "old" technic is better in car than the new with WIFIac and 80MHz.

How can I test if it use Bluetooth 5 or 4?

Well sh*t, I don't know which version to buy now. Definitely want one that supports the latest update/UI..

Please let us know how it performs for you compared to the cheerdriving adapter.

I will tomorrow test again in car. I'll let you know.
If in doubt, I would think I would go for the newer hardware (WIFI802.11ac).

I got my carlinkit from aliexpress - the one with the "new" carbon fiber styled casing, which I believe is just the newest iteration?

I have the red connection screen, but not sure about anything else. I'd say it works 95% of the time.

5% of the time it just doesn't seem to want to connect (the red UI comes on car screen, but phone doesn't connect or it doesn't switch over or I'm not sure what exactly?). And occasionally the audio skips, like a couple milliseconds. Definitely not a dealbreaker but weird.

Wondering if there is any point in attempting to upgrade, or if I may introduce new/different problems AND possibly not solve existing ones?

I'm the only user of the device... I wish I knew why the phone connects so consistently and then just refuses other times (even though the red UI comes on, so it definitely seems something between the device and the phone...)

Do you have an android device to test the WiFi (Wifi Scanner)? Whether WiFi N or WiFi AC...
Because the borrowed carbon (3.0) from my buddy is older than the borrowed glossy (3.0).

I suspect I will eventually get The red UI screen looping on connecting and it never working when that time comes I will post about it. I will also report after my next 70 minute or greater drive.

I did go ahead and return the cheerdriving because of the frequency that cheerdriving didn’t work just seemed to be higher combined with sharing the vehicles and the Carlinkit handling that very well. Cheerdriving was faster connecting for certain, but I would need to unplug/replug about every third drive.

I did so many unplug replug dances I will share my new solution for that problem as well.

So about the cheerdriving adapter… it’s very sensitive. For example, if I wiggle the connection to the car’s usb data port, the adapter loses power or reboots. This doesn’t happen with my iPhone cable (wired CarPlay). I also tried a different usb c to A cable and same outcome.

Guess I will be returning this adapter. Not sure which to try next.

When the adapter loses power, I start getting the “apple
CarPlay failed” message. I started seeing that message as well with the carlinkit 3.0 adapter which I returned.

Is it possible the Mazda USB data port isn’t powerful enough to get these adapters running stable?

Edit: well, I read many reviews on Amazon and these adapters seems to be very hit or miss. Curious to see what your experience is after the latest FW update.

Thank you very much for your information.
I have ordered VW one that is linked. I'll try it after received. but shipment will be March timeframe...
Hi MAZDA users

I'm using Carlinkit 2.0, so far no problem except around 70min reboot issue. then CheerDriving will be resolved for my problem. then I ordered it in January.

Today, I have received CheerDriving. then tried to install to my MX-5, Results is failed at this moment. Ummm.

- Version is shown, 43.0.11.0.0.0.3.0-2.10.2

ConnectBoxBt_MAZDA is appeared on my iPhone BT screening, then select it. but ”Paring Unsuccessful" is show up.
and not move to WiFi connection.

My Mazda connect is 70.00.351. JP M
and I confirmed my iPhone SE and Xs. both were same situation.

I appreciate if you post any advice for my situation.

So my test is over.
I feel all three models worked great. For me "startup delay 5sec" is the best...then, the adapters starts fast and does not choke when booting.

My old 2.0 has a signal -35 and needs 28 seconds to start.
The new 3.0 carbon (old hardware) has a signal -20 and needs 26 seconds to start.
The new 3.0 glossy (new hardware) has a signal -13 and need 25 seconds to start.

So yes, the new 3.0 with new hardware is a tiny little bit faster. But it doesn't matter.

If I were to buy new, I would go for the newer hardware. But I also really like the carbon look (maybe there are carbon look adapters with newer hardware) and it makes the glossy look totally cheap in comparison.

So is the consensus that the 3.0 w/ Carbon is the best right now? Or 3.0 Glossy isn't much different?

"My" 3.0 Carbon test sample has old hardware (like 2.0...WIFIn).
And "My" 3.0 glossy test sample has new hardware (WIFIac).

So ist hard to tell what's the best. In my test today the glossy 3.0 was "the best" and the 3.0 carbon was "very good". Not much different between this two. But also my old 2.0 was "good".

I didn't test music, calls and so on. But with my old 2.0 i never had any problems with that.

I would personally try to get WIFIac when buying a new one. I think in the future there is more to be gained with firmware updates. But if you want carbon, buy carbon...regardless of whether it comes with new or old hardware.

It is also possible that the new hardware will cause problems in the future (heat issue, etc.) and that it is better to buy the old hardware. We all don't know.
