Well the ankeway 1006 adapter isn’t even detected by my car. I’m done with these damn adapters. I have accepted I just need a car with wireless factory CarPlay.

If you done with these adapter, you may interest this separate mini head unit (wireless carplay include)
Cheaper than replace your car ;)

Good point but turns out the adapter is working after rebooting my phone. Question is for how long. I was frustrated when I posted that haha

Update: back to “Apple CarPlay failed”.

I think I have tried 3-5 different adapters. Most stable one was the ottocast u2-air but very laggy in my car. May just have to put up with it…

Looking at the contents of the newer Carlinkit firmware versions there is another WiFi chipset supported now, the RTL8822CS, which seems to be a newer version of the RTL8822BS (which has been used in V1 and V2). Advantages are support for BT 5.0 and a nl80211 compatible mainline Linux driver, adding support for 802.11ac not just in hardware, but also in driver. I think those are the 802.11ac compatible adapters with Realtek chipset that we are currently seeing. I think that there aren't many Broadcom based adapters around..

I am sure this has been asked in this 300+ page thread, but, why couldn't Apple create a simple USB device to alleviate these wired/wireless problems? Yes, this is rhetorical, and they won't, just seems there could be an easy solution.

My aging iPhone X's lightning connector hasn't worked in a couple of years, so I haven't been able to use Carplay on my Alpine for a bit. I miss using Carplay, but I run my phones into the ground until I have to absolutely upgrade, just out of necessity.

These 3rd party adapters are too much of a PITA.

Well I think the cause of my adapter issues is that the USB port isn’t providing enough power to the adapter when the car is turned on. The cheerdriving adapter works fine after I unplug and plug it in 3-4 times. It’s either a power issue or a handshake issue with the infotainment. Not 100% sure.

Car is a 2017 Mazda 3 with retrofit CarPlay. Maybe that’s the issue since it’s not “factory” CarPlay?

The retrofit CarPlay kit is official and identical to the factory installed kit, otherwise the V.70 firmware would not recognize it and work.

Ah that’s good to know. I don’t understand what the issue is then. Must be weak power. I just started my car for the first time today and had unplug/plug in the adapter 4-5 times for it to work. It’s frustrating.

I don't see Apple ever doing this - the compatibility issues alone would be a major headache, having to account for all the various implementations of the Carplay spec on different head units.

That being said, if the rumour they are going to a "portless" phone become true, I would like to think Apple doesn't expect everyone to buy new head units (or cars) to work with their newer devices - I wouldn't put it past them though!

I believe Apple could easily do this as to be CarPlay certified you already have to comply with standards -- they would just make whatever the "compatibility" issues are a requirement. Plus, if Apple does release a dongle and it doesn't work, the auto maker would just issue an OTA/firmware update to their system.

Hi all got a Carlink 2.0 based dongle in my toyota - all works great except if i'm in the toyota menus and i answer a phone call, when I end the phone call the dongle just acts like it's unplugged and won't work until its reconnected - any ideas or experience of this before?

They'd just as likely enable data transfers via MagSafe on upcoming "portless" phones, give you a cable and call it a day.

Can anyone share the latest Cheerdriving/Podofo firmware?
Their server appears to be down so none of the links work.
Thanks
The latest version is OTA, only. You have to update using 192.168.0.1

The previous version you can find here:

my Carlinkit v2 still works perfect, connects almost everytime under 10s (more like 7-8).
received the new webui update. very happy with it.
only thing that pisses me off is Waze gps lost lock...been like this for a while. Google maps or apple maps lock straight away, Waze 9 times out of 10 shows a dot instead of arrow on current location. All my location settings for all mapping apps are set for "when in use only".

In privacy try toggling off and on precise location. Seems to help.

@vccowan how's the carlinkit adapter performing so far?
It’s slow to connect, but has been very consistent at working within 1 minute of starting the cars. It is very common for me to see the CarPlay failed message before it starts working. Only one time in the last several weeks have I had to use the switch I installed to easily unplug/replug my device, and that might have been caused by my phone being stuffed in a bag at the time.

No audio cutouts at 750ms delay and video is smooth. In the past I had used 500ms which feels better for pausing/unpausing but I heard a couple of audio artifacts so I upped it.

I have not yet driven more than one hour in a stretch so I can’t say whether or not that bug has been resolved yet.

Good to know, thanks. what about phone call… can people hear you OK?

Hi,

I have a U2W-Plus Carlinkit adapter and had problems after the last OTA Firmware Upgrade. I tried not several manual USB up- and downgrades / rollbacks, but now I am somehow stuck.

Currently I have 2020.06.15.1482 installed and can manually connect to the WIFI with 12345678 Password. But website tells me, that the firmware is up to date => no update possible.

By applying firmware files on the USB stick, the updates are not applied :-(

Any ideas?

Finally, updated to the latest FW 2022.01.24.1903, Carlinkit now works with my Peugeot 208 (end 2016, equipped with SMEG).
Thank you all for sharing!
