Hi all. I’m a long-time lurker, first time poster here.

I have some generic copy of MMB adapter and it’s running the most current firmware (May 19, 2021, I believe). I’ve had it for a little more than a year and it has (almost) always worked quite well in my 2016 VW GTI with my iPhone 12 Pro. My car had to go into the body shop shortly before Christmas and it was gone for 3-4 months (thanks, COVID). Ever since I got my car back, my phone is unable to connect to the adapter. It just fails and tries again on an endless loop. While my car was gone, the adapter went untouched and I didn’t install any OS updates on my phone (it was running iOS 14.7). I’m pretty tech-savvy, but I have absolutely no clue what could’ve caused this issue.

What I’ve tried:
  • Removing my phone from the device and the device from my phone, then relinking everything didn’t help.
  • Restarting my phone doesn’t have any impact.
  • CarPlay still works perfectly fine on my phone via USB.
  • I went so far as to install iOS 15.3.1 on my phone, no change there either.
  • I tried connecting my girlfriend’s phone to the adapter and it worked correctly.
  • I was going to try to rollback the adapter’s firmware for the hell of it, but the link to it is dead.
I’m pretty baffled here. The only ideas I have are to restore my phone to new (not going to happen) or try a different CarPlay adapter. Does anyone have any ideas and/or suggestions I can try? Is it crazy to think a different adapter might work? (On that note, if you’re in the Cleveland area, can I try your adapter?) Any help at all would be very much appreciated.

does anyone with Carlinkit know how to get the navigation to show in the HUD (specifically a mercedes vehicle with MBUX)? I can only get it to show if i am using CarPlay wired.. when using wireless it will only show the N/S/E/W direction but Not the actual driving directions etc.

Anyone using iOS 16 b1? For me the lag is wayyyy less now. Especially using the Flitsmeister app. Cplay2air green ui on latest fw.

I am. But don’t see any difference in performance. Always been buttery smooth with carlinkit 3

Anyone tried out the Carlinkit 4.0 yet? Can't imagine they're actually changing anything in these things but you never know: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B1Q8BF7W
Mine arrived yesterday. It was advertised as having a much faster login - 10 seconds instead of 40 or more. Not for me so far - it takes just as long to log in, on my 2019 Mazda MX-5. But it does log in. I haven't taken it for a drive yet, so I can't comment on stability. Firmware on it is 2022-05-16

Anything newer than March 6th 2021 firmware is utterly useless in multiple cars I've tested. The interface will fall behind and take forever to respond to touch. 10-30 seconds sometimes. Waze accelerates this phenomena. I've rolled both my adapters back. ZERO issues on 3/6/21 firmware in the same car that was having issues on newer firmwares.

What device are you talking about?

With carlinkit 3.0 I’m on the latest firmware version and can’t say I’ve experience the same as you as it is buttery don’ smooth.

CarLinkit 3.0. Behavior existed in both a Chevy Spark and Jeep Renegade, and straight up refused to work on a Sony head unit in a Corvette.

Just received my 4.0 today too. I’ll give it a good comparison between my 3.0. I only have an iPhone though. Would be interesting to see the reliability from Android Auto.

have you checked your bluetooth, wifi, and carplay section on your iPhone settings to remove MMB conneccted history, and then reboot your iPhone? if your gf's iPhone can work, I dont see any reason why your iPhone doesn't work if you have your iOS updated.

There is a June 2022 update available for the CarLinkit. Just writing to report that I went on a 2 hour long drive with a Carlinkit 3.0 that didn’t freeze on me. Around half way through I did leave the vehicle so CarPlay probably reconnected without me noticing, but maybe this is fixed?

Edit it is not fixed, still crashes on a clock.

Yes my carlinkit 3 received an update yesterday too. It seems to be a little more stable.

The latest update didn't play nice with my 2017 Mazda 3 infotainment. Had to revert back to the 2022/01/24 FW..

So hopefully any time soon also for the Cay2air dongle.

I updated my Carlinkit (red UI) with the June 2022 software. Now I get the message that Carplay will not be supported. I have a Mercedes with MBUX.

Anyone with Mercedes and MBUX who has the same problem?

Try reset the adapter in the advanced menu and check if it works after that.

I downgraded it to January 2022 software and now it works. But now it has the green UI instead of the red UI. Is it possible to go back to red UI?

That’s odd, obviously the roll back loaded on the green UI. You can try load the U2W_AUTOKIT_Update.img

I’ve attached 2022.01.24 for Red UI just rename the file name to the above.
