For those who are happy with Carlinkit wireless CarPlay, could you please tell me if the voice calls won’t delay to affect a conversation? Thanks.

I read the 30 pages of this post and I 'am sure of one thing with the Carlinkit : I'm not alone with the connection issues. I own a Mercedes GLE C292 '18. Carplay using Carlinkit is not working from the beginning. I upgraded to the U2W firmware but the Carplay connexion still failed at step "Activating device. Please wait...". After around 15 sec. the system hang and retour to NTG5. During this step the wifi "mercedes..." appears but the connexion failed. Of course, I testing with my Iphone XS with wiring connection and taking care to unlock the iphone but same issue. I also have the same issue with an Iphone 6s....

Correct. I’ve called this out 100 times. If you put the car in reverse and it calls the backup camera before CarPlay loads it fails and you have to pull the dongle out and put back in. I’ve reported this to them about 500 times since I got the thing in early November.
Thanks for the tip. I have been trying to figure out why my unit loads CarPlay intermittently. But since I been waiting to load CarPlay before putting my car in reverse, it works every time. I hope they fix this bug with the next update. Again Thanks. BTW do you know how the delete my old iPhone from the CarPlay login.

This mostly works 'OK' with my 2018 Chevy Traverse. The biggest issue is that the device cannot be plugged in when I start my car, or CarPlay won't ever start up. I have to wait until after the car infotainment fully boots up and then plug it in, which is annoying. If they can find a way to fix that and get steering wheel controls working, it would be something I use all of the time, but for now it's just a toy to experiment with.

I have still not had a reply from the elusive Michael but I have opened a dispute with the Credit Card company.
After reading here I thought I would give it one more go and first connected it to a Windows 10 PC as I have read that it should show up as an iPhone, well mine does not even show up as anything, it does not even register that it has been put in to the USB socket of the computer and I have tried all of the sockets.

Ok, It is now being recognised and is showing as an iPhone but states that there is a driver error.

Ok so I’m new here. I just got the carplay2air adapter and I can’t get past the connecting screen on ford sync 3. I thought it was working for a second because it flashed back to the home screen but went back to the connecting screen. Any help would be appreciated

I tried mine on my pc and got nothing. Did you do anything different to get it to recognize?

By the way, there is another company called Chytah that offers the same dongle. I checked, it’s from the same company that makes these dongles in China. My brother works in China and he did the background check on this company. He said it’s a small company established since 2014. Can’t really tell if the product is good or not. Therefore, I believe pretty much all of the dongles are made from the same company, but branded by other sellers.

The one listed on Chytah website is for Android head units. Where do they sell the one for built-in Carplay?

they have a video with wireless CarPlay.

There's another company called WirelessCarplay that sells the exact same dongle. Carlinkit appears to be the OEM.

I am hoping a more reputable company makes a polished and seamless product. There is obviously a market for it.

@fortetfn can you share the link to Chytah-branded one here?

All I can find is the unit that enable wireless CarPlay on android head units. Carplay2Air and Carlinkit U2W on the other hand enable wireless CarPlay on OEM head units with built-in CarPlay (albeit wired only).

Different labels for the same product isn't surprising at all, but I don't want you, or anyone else reading this thread, buying the wrong thing because these dongles look identical even though they work differently.

Has anyone successfully managed to get a refund via return using PayPal? I raised a case through PayPal and the address that PayPal provided is completely different to the address that the Carplay2Air guys gave me. PayPal provided an address in Lithuania and Michael from Carplay2air gave me an address in China.

Also, I can't believe they're gonna try charge me a $25 restocking fee if they can't find a fault with it. And not going to refund my shipping fee and making me pay for the shipping back to them.

No consumers like this but it's a common practice in many countries, unfortunately.

There is no way for them to legitimately validate my fault because all cars have different head units/entertainment systems and unless he has access to my exact car make/model, he could just say he tested it in a car which he knows it will work with and say there is no fault on their end, just to charge me the $25 restocking fee.

I've had companies fabricate their "fault validations" on me in the past just to be able to charge me to have the product returned to me or to have it restocked...

I've been using the Christmas day firmware (12/25) for a few days now on my Audi Q5 with iPhone XS + iOS 13.3. Some extra notes:
  • Performance has been reliable overall. Haven't unplugged the dongle since updating.
  • Reversed the car before dongle connects a few times, a bit of delay but it re-connects to the phone eventually.
  • Had one occasion where audio quality drops while driving. Switched to radio and back to carplay and it sounded good again. Weird.
  • Had one occasion where the phone wouldn't connect (screen stuck at "Connecting…"). Went to my iOS bluetooth settings and tap on the "Audi-xxxx" device and CarPlay re-connects. Didn't need to unplug or re-enter pin.
  • Song information on the Virtual Cockpit (VC) stop updating 1-2 mins after starting up. Not a dealbreaker for me since I usually have track info on main screen anyway but would be nice to see this fixed in future firmware.
  • No noticeable performance issue with Siri. There's a bit of delay, but acceptable.
  • Still a slight delay when skipping tracks
  • No surprises that Wireless CarPlay drains more battery but I think I'd only recommend this solution to friends if the car has a charging pad or other charging set up that doesn't involve plugging in a cable to the car manually. As soon as you need to plug in, might as well just do CarPlay direct via cable.

odd thing here, i know that most of you have a reverse bug where, if you put the car into reverse and loads up the backup camera, the dongle fails to load.. For me on the other hand, I've noticed with my CLA250 that if I put my car into revserse and backup camera loads on the screen, the dongle is actually able to initiate. Most of the time when I do not do this, the dongle fails to initiate and the screen is constantly going in a loop of failed activation of CarPlay...

So you have a reverse-reverse bug? 😁

I’m working with them currently on this. Have an email chain going doing some diagnostics.

Nothing for me and “support” says wait for new software..... since September
What dongle do you have? I noticed you bought yours way back in August....is it Carlinkkit? It's def not carplay2air even though i think it was established they are pretty much the same thing.

What car again do you have? Does it not just work at all?
