Is that what's causing the sluggishness in these units?Has there ever been a workaround for cplay2air being unable to update due to the rootfs partition size? My unit is slugish, even after reset.
I don't know but I assume newer updates might be better, and I can't get the newer update because of the rootfs thing. Is that what's causing the sluggishness in these units?
Interesting. I am unfamiliar with the rootfs issue, but I can say that my CPC200-U2W had worked nearly flawlessly until the recent update to iOS16. I can only assume Apple made some big changes to Carplay, and it's bogging down these devices that were never a supported version of Carplay in the first place.I don't know but I assume newer updates might be better, and I can't get the newer update because of the rootfs thing.
Further to my above post. After updating to ios 16.1.1 again the same issues as above has occured after ios update. That is slowness in connecting to Adapter etc. After all the different iPhone Updates currently at ios 16.1 .
I have noticed that my Adapter is getting slow to initialise when starting the car for the first time or not working at all and have had to unplug Adapter and plug it back to get it to work.
So I did some testing by going to 192.168.50.2 and resetting Adapter to factory defaults and then re-installing current firmware via USB.
I have found that after a couple of days the Adapter is again super responsive and loads up quickly.
I am wondering whether these Adapters retain some sort of Settings with each ios Update via CarPlay.
That is not an option for the U2W units. I wish they had been put into separate threads because they're totally different products._______________________

The U2W archive is maintained by @KevinGrabher here: https://projects.grabher-industries.com/U2W/Thanks, but I don't see firmware for the U2W there. Am I missing something?
Thank you all for the replies. When I flash to 2022-01-24, the unit is unusable with the following issues:Are you using cplay2air firmware.
I can categorically state that this is indeed for U2W/U2W AutoKit Firmware. How do I know I am using it now.
Further your firmware is OLD and not showing the newer firmware menu.
Got it, so you're super clever and sarcastic up until the point where you don't know what you're talking about, is that it? Why did you even bother to reply? To "correct me" about something you were actually wrong about ? Bugger off with that nonsense. Your post was a direct reply to mine on how a specific firmware does not work with the U2W@stevestrike
My posts have nothing to do with your issues.
Kindly create a new Post with all details and if someone has any input they will reply.
Yeah so the problem we have is this: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...ert-to-wireless-carplay.2193978/post-29670938Thank you all for the replies. When I flash to 2022-01-24, the unit is unusable with the following issues:
-Infos page is empty, Check Update will leave "loading..." in chinese on the screen forever
-Manage page is compeltely inaccessable--just a blank page
-Settings page briefly flashes what the settings should be, then goes blank
-Finally, the actual Carplay display itself is torn and covered with artifacts--it seems like there isn't enough bandwidth to even make the home screen without display issues
I don't know if you have to upgrade in sequence, or my U2W unit cannot be upgraded to run 2022-01-24 successfully.
From CarPlayLife.com. Anthony states that v4 of the Adapters have a weaker Wifi signal so if you use only Wireless Carplay I’d stick with V3 Adapters for best Wifi coverage. There are literally 100’s of adapters now. Anyone recommend any now, ideally from Amazon for returns.
eg these are less than £50, anyone have one? Ok? https://amzn.eu/4cIzcce
Think they are all basically the same now and as long as work then should be ok. I know earlier used to be a scramble for updates which bricked sometimes so presume they are at a level now that just works?

Sorry I should have provided a link. here you go 9:31Top 5 Best Wireless Apple CarPlay Adapters 2022 | Which ...YouTube · CarPlay Life9 minutes, 31 seconds1 month agoThanks I’ll have a search for that video. Not sure on version that I linked to.
Strange that a newer version has worse WiFi as well. Although nothing surprises me with these dongles, although they are great for what they do have to say.
Yeah it is hard to say. I have an Adapter from JoyeAuto that never worked from day 1. Even after they told me it works. Costs to return back to China was not worth it.Maybe I should look into the adapters that have a bit extra now, as in apps, YT etc. are these any good? Worth the extra? Probably be good to use, but then I’ll forget about the function and never use it….

So you can try and see if it works or do the old Try & Return thing from Amazon.
For me I just want Wireless CarPlay that works. I have been lucky because Mitsubishi is not listed as Compatible but I have found a firmware version that works reliably.
The Adapters that have Apps are running Android versions so be mindful of that and what Version the Adapters come with.
I have the MMB Adapter Plus (JoyeAuto Parent Coy) which they stopped supporting via Firmware as soon as I bought it. Absolutely no support whatsoever. Then they had the goal to release an Updated version of the Adapter.Yeh long time ago I bought from AE and didn’t work and the seller was horrendous, just gave up and learnt my lesson.
I’ll only buy from Amazon UK for the try and buy as you say.
Still interested in maybe an adapter with apps, purely because of the difference in older ones. Not if the price bumps up too much though - suggestions? Looking on CarPlayLife says Android 11 is now the newer, so maybe look for that?
Which specific one do you have? Agree having wireless reliable is the best overall.
Even Amazon still seems the same minefield of adapters and version. eg found a CarLinkIt v4. It’s £73 or £139 (with a £39 off..). So still a big dictating in price. One seller says CarLinkIt, another some unknown… never know if get the correct version or a knock off
Do they all still have the same update server? Firmware all the same? What’s latest date of firmware now?
Does iOS 16 and the adapters work fine? My old one is still ok and I’m on latest iOS.
The biggest problem in my view is if it is compatible with your car. The second is firmware support. The third is the quality of the chipset these manufacturers use. In other words Carlinkit use an Automotive chipset, which means it is designed for cars, because of the high temperatures (interior) cars can reach in summer.Still looking…. Been on the site with reviews, there is that many that you don’t know if it’s the same version.
Definitely going Amazon though, for the possibility of returns.
Cheapest I can find is a no brand one for £50 https://amzn.eu/d/ioGYa7o haven’t seen this one anywhere.
Not sure if I fancy a AI, or whatever called, with some streaming, but these seem to be much more money? Anyone see any on Amazon UK?
Thanks
