Ditto. I use my Lumia phones case less all the time as the back cover is easily removable but I cannot say the same for my rose gold iPhone 6s.

Yes, IMHO ergonomics are not considered at all in the design of iPhones. I am talking specifically about the handling of the phone while it is in use. Putting a case on my phone increases the ease of use substantially.

The lack of ergonomics carries over into the horrible ATV remote control. The thing is too damn thin and flat. Aside from scrubbing in Netflix, the touchpad is an abortion, and even in Netflix, it's hard to stop on a dime, click, and proceed at the place you stopped on. At least I tend to experience a small jump between the time I stop and the time I click. Frustrating to say the least. IMO, the whole point of making things thin is to enable the use of cases. That became clear to me when I bought my 5th gen iPod Touch in 2012, which was too thin and slippery to use without a case. I'd be dropping it all the time without a case. There will probably never be a case for the ATV remote, and rightly so, because it would be rather ridiculous. I think in many ways, Apple has got its head up its ass WRT design.

anybody use the leather case iphone have made?

I have one for my 6S Plus. It's a decent quality piece that fits well. The audio jack, Lightning port and speaker are uncovered, and of course so is the glass. If you want to put the iPhone down face down, then a slight lip on the cover keeps the iPhone off of the hard surface of the desk.

It's okay for what it is, providing a kind of basic safety net so the metal doesn't get scratched and allowing you to be out in the world and comfortable putting the iPhone down on a hard surface. It's not the kind of cover that is going to protect your iPhone if you drop it off the top of a ladder.

Moreover, it's only the vibrate button that is uncovered. Because the main switch and the volume switches are covered in leather, the cover affects how these buttons operate and you'll have to pay more attention to what you are doing because they don't feel right. :) But this is true of *all* protection that covers the iPhone's keys!

Because the cover was designed by Apple for Apple, it does not affect the operation of the camera. Some covers do, because even a black, overtly non-reflective surface can affect the camera if it's too close to the lens or otherwise not designed for the high quality iPhone camera.

I'd really prefer not to have to cover my iPhones. I like how the buttons operate, and I'd prefer not to have to increase the bulk of an already rather hefty 6S Plus.

Sometimes I do not cover it but as others have said, it is slippery sometimes. This is one of those things that Ive and Jobs just didn't "get" in their minds. I recall Mr Jobs hinting once that if your hands are not clean and dry, then leave the iPhone in your pocket. LOL....

That was my first thing to do, change the ringtone and the sms-tone. Unfortunately I had to use "iPuke" that I hate from the bottom of my heart.
I change mine and have most everyone custom so I know who a call, email or text is coming from before I even reach for my phone. Why the need for this "iPuke" thing? I just went in and made the change.

I don't have the guts to NOT use a case. If I cannot get a case the day I get the phone, I don't use it until I can LOL

iTunes is an abomination when it comes to devices. But Apple wants us to use it to sync to it.

There are some workarounds to get rintones into the phone, but generally you have to use iTunes to do it.

But iTunes is very picky as to what you give it. If it's not exactly what it wants it doesn't sync it.

And not everyone has the specific computer that they use to sync with them all the time. Which is another thing. It's got to be one computer you sync to.

Other than for music to listen to, I hate iTunes.

Okay I see. I don't remember how I initially put in my specific alert ringtones in but they have been there since. I actually have my kids' voices for their ringtones.

I always put a case on my phones. No matter which phone. For the iPhones I love finding cases that are slim and nice looking and I also get cases that I can use when accidents are likely to happen.
I always kept a case on my Burgundy SGS3. ONE day, ONE SINGLE DAY, I took the case off and dropped the phone. The screen broke in a spider Web pattern and then began to chip off. I LOVED that phone.
NEVER AGAIN. ALL my phones live in cases and tempered glass screen protectors.

That's why it happened. You don't have the skills to handle the phone without a case.

Possibly.

Regardless, I hand my phone over to a family member when I get a new one. I just handed my iPhone 6, in pristine condition, to my cousin so he could replace his iPhone 5. His iPhone 5 went to his 10 year old daughter as her first iPhone.

I like to have a pristine phone when I give it to a family member each year. No dings, scratches, or signs of wear. Been doing this since handing over my iPhone 4s when I got my iPhone 5. Will do the same when I get my iPhone 7.

Hell even my BlackBerry Passport, which is a tank, is in a case.

Everybody I know that has started our carrying a naked iPhone and raving about how cool it is...has had it slip from their grip & hit the ground either badly enough to break a screen, or at least badly enough to ding the phone up so that the "coolness" isn't so much any more. It just looks like they're rocking a beat up phone. Not very cool.

I use the Apple leather case because it's the closest thing to naked I can get and still offer a modicum of protection in case I do drop the device...and I have. It also adds some "grippy-ness" to help me hang onto things more easily, and looks good too IMO.
A colleague refused to put the work provided case that he got when he got his work issued iPhone. His reason was that he always used his personal phones without a case, which was true. He ridiculed the use of cases.

One week after getting his phone he dropped it on the hard tile at Union Station on DC. Right now he's waiting to get a replacement and has a dumb phone for a work phone, and because of the holidays, has been waiting a week.

He's not ridiculing those of us with our phones in the work provided cases anymore.

So? That's life. Do you put a case on your car or your children (like in the movie with Jake Gyllenhaal)? If you pu just a slim case on your iPhone and drop it on tiles or any other hard surface there is a very high chance you will damage it. I have also seen screens get cracked under the screen protector.

and if I use an unofficial thin cover which doesn't do the above you still get that horrible bit where the phone meets the start of the cover you have to rub your finger against and its just, urgh.

Meh, it's like that even without a case. That sharp plastic edge that holds the glass in place. So you go from smooth glass to dragging finger across sharp plastic with some resistance, and then to yet another texture with the aluminum. The silicone bump you get with the Apple case is more pronounced but no more annoying. And the edge features still work...

Dude, don't put a case on your phone. I don't care what you do. But I did laugh my head off when my snobbish arrogant "oooooo I don't put a case on my phone and yours looks ridiculous" teammate dropped his, and I especially find it funny when he has to answer a call on his dumb phone. He ridiculed us, now we have good laughs at his expense.

I choose to protect my phone. Why should you care what I do?

As far as my car, I put door protectors to avoid dings as much as possible. I don't care if you don't.

As far as my kids, I used car seats. I don't care if you don't.

Steel bends but Gorilla Glass cracks. It maybe harder but it is not as durable. Take a steel hammer to it and see what happens!
The more surface area, the more prone to cracking.
Would a screen protector helps when you beat your phone with a hammer? LOL. That's my point.
