So the OTA download is really compressed and needs to be unpacked first.

I don't know really what the differences are. I've never done OTA update for a major release only the incremental ones.

He might be on a 4 and not a 4S or something. If you have an older model phone or iPad, some of the features are left out, which means the update is probably smaller.

4S is done via iTunes hardwire.

iPad is very close it seems via OTA.

Just use the regular update button on iTunes. But I do suggest you restore, not necessary tho.

Yea, I'm doing a backup + restore + update iOS just in case.

Don't want to screw anything up.

I'm now using iTunes, instead of OTA.

May as well download the file permanently if I need to start over again.

When I retried OTA the second time, it didn't save the update files to the iPhone. Made me start it all over again...

Surprised the whole thing took less than 20 mins from download to complete installation.

It took only four minutes to download!

Yea, had same issue with my JB 4S.

Have to restore to OFFICIAL 5.1.1 first and start all over again.

AND I gotta reinstall like 30 gigs of data/apps/movies/music/etc/
